You ALL knew this was coming, right?
George Takei -- you know, that guy who played Sulu on Star Trek? Gay. (Probably not anywhere near as gay as this or this, but gay nonetheless. By the way, both gay links are kinda worksafe, but they may make your eyes bleed pink and violet.)

Minor splooging starts over at the Trek BBS. Some trolling happens, some flaming happens, some bitching about moderators happens, "closet trekkies = closet gays," that kind of shit.

So far, it's only three pages, and completely without slash references of any kind (just wait), but it's entertaining. My favorite part was the speculating over who'll come out next. So far, the money seems to be on Garrett Wang and Michael Dorn.

But once again, Takei may be gay, that doesn't mean Sulu is...It smacks of people being unable to separate fantasy from reality. The same kind of people who who go into schools with shotguns after playing a game of Quake...

Um, no, there's a big difference there. Mostly, it involves guns and people not dying. (Unless we're talking about celebrity stalkers.)

The generall assumption in this...fuck society, in this WORLD...is that someone is straight and gender convergent. In American society, it's also that someone is non-practising Protestant Christian (unless you appear 'Arabic' or you have a surname that's 'Cohen', 'Something-stein' 'Something-berg' or 'O'something') If you ARE a straight, gender-convergent non-practising Christian, you don't need to say a damn thing to be read right, unless you're, say, at a gay bar or sitting in a Shul/Mosque/Wiccan cirle/chair with the goat of Mendes over it/goth club.

If we were in a society where people were assumed to be gay, transgendered Odin-worshippers, you MIGHT feel the need to say more. Then again, if we were in such a society, any symbol you made of BEING a straight, gender-convergent non-practising Christian would be seen as flaunting your heterosexuality/cisgenderism/quasi-Christianity and 'proclaimining it to the world'.
