The Yaoi Industry's Conspiracy, Unmasked!
On LJ's yaoi_rants community, halcyon_grey posts something that sounds something like sense before dissolving into a train wreck of shaky opinions on sexual psychology and the yaoi/shounen-ai industry.

People debate, halcyon_grey becomes defensive and begins to sound paranoid.

ZanneChaos tries to talk sense before quickly realizing that it's an exercise in futility. After the laughing fit subsides enough for her to type, she proceeds to have fun at halcyon's expense. Halcyon takes offense, and Zanne basks in the wank for kicks. It's all downhill from here, folks!

Don't forget that if you aren't into porn, you're repelled by it! There is no gray area imbetween. You either are or you aren't.

I think I'm laughing just as hard as Zanne was.

People like you defend gay men even though they benefit from patriarchy and lash out at people like me who like to call a spade a spade.

Someone else want to take this cause...damn.

Just, just...

On one hand, she's pissing me off. On the other, it's been a while since I've laughed this hard at something. The levels of crazy here... it's just... wow.

The funny sad thing is, I wouldn't think he (or should that be 'she'? 'zie'? 'that person'?) is massively one with the batshit if zie would just concede that it's zir opinion, and... but... the... the batshit. I'm wondering how many rolls of Reynolds Wrap went into that tinhat of zirs. So liking characters more realistic means I'm dickwhipped and blinded by the ev0l patriarchy? Buh?

I hope this doesn't stop. I need something to keep distracting me from getting any kind of a wordcount in my writing! :D

The sex industry is funded and produced by men for... men (and some women). Men make money and share it amongst themselves (women have to earn it). They decide what's sexy, what's right, what's moral and what some people think.

That is a thing of beauty. Quite apart from the William Shatnerness of the first line, "men make money... women have to earn it"? Damnit. I knew all my male friends were printing money in the garage. OMG I'M BEING OPPRESSED BY THE COUNTERFEITING PATRIARCHY!*

So when do you all figure she'll realize that it isn't gay men who are making the characters in yaoi less feminine, but her own fellow female yaoi fans who are sick of whiny weeping girly boys?

(And the empowerment of Japanese women. But that's far beyond the scope of this discussion, I suppose.)

Wait. Halycon starts off making sense, proving she can indeed use coherent argument to state her case, and then... and then...

I think the fact that someone actually disagreed with her did something to her brain. Like maybe set off a little switch causing each subsequent post to only be able to access a fraction of the logic of the previous post. Thus descendeth the wank.

I want to make a Quoth's Law (like Goowin and Snacky). If you try to prove your case on the ground that you are oppressed so everyone should agree with you, you LOSE. Or more like a Monty's Law (as in Monty Python). "Help, help, I'm being oppressed! Someone doesn't agree with me!"

Ah yes, I remember her. She did the same thing over the summer with pearls of wisdom like:

Yes, of course queer people are oppressed and I stand behind my community for equal rights and liberties but I waver in sympathy for the plight of gay white males, for they still dominate our community with their privileges and priorities and often impose their own prejudices against those more opressed.

Which sounds frighteningly like an episode of South Park.

Last time I checked, Yuri is not lesbian, just as Yaoi isn't gay. They are ideals of relationships between two members of the same sex, that are created by either females or males, hetero or homo. So when I related my impression of yuri to relationships between WOMEN in general, I wasn't only refering to lesbians, since I know how to tell them apart.

It's a common fact that females can be more affectionate and/or even intimate with each other than males can.

Get this through your head. Yuri is not lesbian and yaoi is not gay.

She also lets us know that using the word "spunk" is degrading to women when she and fumeterre get into an argument.

I think my favorite part is where she plays the my spelling is better than yours card.

I admit grammer can be tricky but at least my spelling is better than yours. (And I'm not mad, since I am half-male.)

The sad thing is she always starts out with a reasonable comment and a decent rant and then turns it into socio-political splooge.

Yes, I do realize that using the word splooge is just like using the word spunk. Only different.

Apologies for the double post. HTML tags fixed now.

Is this the 1950s and Gravitation's the new USSR?

In the motherland, gay bubblegum pop songs sing you?

But buyer beware, the truth may be that the industry is going 'gay' to lure the gay male consumer who have more money than the female audience.

OH NO THE MEN WILL BUY ALL THE HOT GAY PRONS NOW, SOON THERE WILL BE NOTHING LEFT FOR ME.

Something I am really starting to get tired of in yaoi mangas is how black or white the charcters still are, given that those and grey are the only 'colours' one can use'. If it isn't a dark haired seme with a light haired uke, then it's a light haired seme with a dark haired uke.

O_o

What, are they supposed to use stripes and polk-a-dots now?

I can't stand seeing two men who look and act the same having meaningless sex and I don't like it showing up in the genre that was created because that was all there was and some women wanted something different and deeper.

*Writes some Gravi smut, where Shuichi and Ryuichi, just fuck for fuck's sake*

What's the matter with biseinen and bishonen who just want to screw for shits and giggles?

I don't have a problem with that.

Also, get the steppin' outta BOTH my fandoms!

WTF? She thinks yaoi written realistically is bowing into the patriarchy but then criticizes Gravitation for being stereotypically seme/uke? The sense, it do not make! @_@

But this bullshit she said to akai_senshi/redwarrior pissed me off more, actually:

It's easy for you to transition into the gay culture because you are adopting a male persona, atributes, etc. and in our patriarchal world those who strive to be man like are valued and honored. That's why sometime people can only take women seriously if they wear suits, speak deeply, reserve their emotion, play with guns, or become whores.

For actual straight women, perhaps. For FtMs? No fucking way! X-(

Just proving once again that the rabid factions within yaoi fandom can be some of the most homophobic people you'll ever meet.

True story: I was waiting in the queue at the local record store some time ago when I couldn't help but overhear the very audible fangirling going on in front of me. It was two adolescent girls gushing over the OMG HOT GUYS! in Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. When it was pointed out to them that yes Virginia, those chaps really are gay, the howl of "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" nearly broke the sound barrier.

Oh, and before that they had been fangirling yaoi.
