The Holy Pairing of Dan/Emma Hits a Speedbump
Mouse directs me to a rumour in the Daily Mail that 16-year-old Daniel Radcliffe is dating a 23-year-old Irish hairstylist.
Slightly weirded out, I quickly recovered to check how the Dan/Emma shippers were taking it. No disappointment there. The Dan/Emma forum at Portkey is abuzz.

It screams being arrested for underage - whatever never mind sex. At this moment in time i don't seriously doubt WB will ever have her back on their wage roll - and then there's this all 'he said' 'she said' hello doesn't that say something?
And then there's the whole convieniece of her being on location in Turkey and her landlord is the one doing all the speaking out - HELLO!!
fact yes he is 16 and of legal age, but his parents are still his managers and i seriously doubt he would do anything to hurt his parents never mind anyone else.
She is a hairdresser who looks after not only his but the rest of the cast so to me this whole 'personal one to one' seems way to iffy if you ask me. Then there's the publicity events - correct me if i am wrong but he didn't do any last year or this year. He did the prems and Emma was there, he flew to America and Emma was there. He brought his own clothes to the hotel and Emma was there - furthermore his parents where there - so where would he have had the time to do anything at his age without anyone else noticing!!??
Well i have an 11 year old boy and a 7 year old boy and a 2 year old daughter and let me tell you something for nothing. If i ever thought my eldest would get himself involved with a 22/23 year old woman i would not only be outraged but that women would be so sorry she entangled herself in my son's life.
Its yet another attempt to find out who this 'girlfriend' of his is!!!

Now it seems to me that Dan i think has and is dropping hints all over the place. This is about as honest as he has ever been. Never before has he mentioned about girls simply sticking to the line that he is too busy to get himself a girlfriend. But he is at the age now where it is to be expected or he falls into the category of 'well if you don't have one then you must be gay' which is complete bull but that is how the system works.
Now he has always admitted that he and Emma are friends, well like 'brother and sister' but now more and more is being added too it. He has said in the past that they all get on like 'one big happy family' but only earlier this year we got some strange twists to it all.
msn interview he goes on about his relationship with cho chang (his character that is) and that he is 'particulary inept when it came to the opposite sex' but that what they have is real, 'it's not a crush it's love and they're meant to be together'
Now he said this with so much passion in his voice, and we all know that it is nothing but a crush we have read the books ourselves and he has read the books himself so he would know that apart from the two kisses he shares - one of them being really awkward with the blubbering Cho it ends pretty dismal all because of his 'friendship with Hermione'
So he knows that it is just a crush and he gets over it in the book, so who is he referring too??
Then we had the ABC special and the dancing between them, even though he should be rehearsing with his dance partner he is dancing with Emma, then the look across the classroom with eyes boring into the back of her head!!
Then we got an article in the french magazine 'One' where he confesses slightly about finding himself in the same situation as Harry is going through where he fell in love with a girl but found it incredibly difficult to express how he felt it was awkward................(POA Prem last year they had begun filming GOF)
Now we have all heard the rumours surrounding them durning the making of POA but this is where it gets interesting. Emma gushed during the POA jap press conference and i thought bless her she is in love. He sent her a little message back in a way of thanks and she beamed at the monitor on the table.
So this at the beginnng of the year was very interesting, saying he fell for a girl but was awkward about it.
Now we have seen nothing until the whole thing wrapped up in April, but we did get a nice tribute to him from Emma at the BAFTAS when she spoke about him without prompt - again another defining moment because her whole face lit up!!
Now October and we first get an audio press conference in which it was a very laid back affair. Three sections, the producer and director first, then the other cast and finally the Trio - and as we have been told they were on good spirits and it was evident when you heard it that yep Dan and Emma seemed to take centre stage..........and the whole question that was referred to Emma

dan: "They're all me, they're all me......oh sorry go on"
Now to me this spoke volumes, why would he say a thing like that, what was his purpose of saying this??
Maybe a warning that in fact all the boys chasing Emma are indeed him and no one else, because no one else is allowed to get anywhere near her??
He didn't retract what he said, but merely apologized for interrupting Emma answering and she cleverly directed it back to him and quite the witty person that he is started off with the,
dan: "Do i have boys chasing Emma?"
BUT the next day he seemed to close down a bit, because the way i see it the boss was now along side them and he had to behave himself. Yes it is interesting how dark his face became when Emma mentioned that she wanted Ron and Hermione to 'get it together' he smiled briefly but it was more of a grimace than a smile.

Then the 'had a girlfriend but not at the moment' and 'we are all sad lonely people'
Now to me i don't know if anyone else saw it but did you think that Dan was being a touch sarky in both those comments??
would it be possible that the girlfriend is in fact Emma and they have to 'cool it' until after the promotion is over?? and that when he adds 'we are all sad lonely people' this is being aimed at D.H. because it is the expressed wishes for them all to remain unattached??
This would explain why he is now so avasive to even speak about having a girlfriend and even goes to the lengths of not being able to look the interviewers in the face he slants his eyes and just amiles while speaking, not a happy smile more of a plastered on smile. He doesn't look heartbroken, there has been no 'confessions of how his heart got broken' nothing - just had one but not at the moment................mmmmmmmm
Now this is very intriguing. And now all the interviews that are coming out are getting more and more revealing. Emma's latest press junket had her once again gushing about how brilliant he is.
Interviews are claiming that they are very close, that he spends his free time with Emma even off the set - because 'she is like a sister' yeah right convienent eh??
They have the arguments that bring them closer, he likes being with Emma, and so on and so on.....
So to me the only thing he has left to say is that he and Emma are a couple and have been for about 2 years but the whole legality of her still being 15 i think holds him back!!

You summed up pretty nicely the timeline for D/E...I, too, think that they are a couple trying to keep it hush-hush but I guess they can't exactly come right out and say it!
But please, those looks they give each other and the constant physical contact is so telling. NO way, a brother/sister would gaze at each other the way they do or try to touch each other EVERY chance they get.
I think, as teens, they are actually doing a pretty good job of hiding it...sort of. I mean, we all see the interaction and know exactly what it means but they think they are still fooling the public so I guess we should just sit back and let TPTB have their delusions.
It will be interesting to see, though, once Emma turns 16, what happens. If they are still together, we could see a revelation. Of course all of us D/E shippers will say...hey, we knew it all along!

Also, I think that research_dome might have mentioned something in spring 2004 related to the POA premiere. Something suggesting that the teens playing HP characters might have some provision in their contracts with Warner Brothers that they're not allowed to say they are dating anyone. I have no idea whether this is true. But when you think about movie studios, their business is selling fantasy (regardless of the actual movie genre). Part of the fantasy is to give every girl and boy who watched the movies the feeling that it's possible for her or him to one day meet and fall in love with a movie star or pop star. That could easily apply to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. There are thousands, if not millions, of teens and pre-teens who have crushes on one or another of these three, particularly Dan and Emma. So it makes sense for the studio to maintain the ILLUSION of their availability as much and as long as possible.
