GameFAQs: The bosses are too easy!
Over on the Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow board at GameFAQs, user The Hye Circus posts a thread about how the bosses in DoS are too easy. Other people chime in with the usual comments about not leveling so hard, the bosses haven't been hard since the NES days, and maybe you should try Julius mode?

However, a few people try to debate him on his assertion that it's horrible game design. And then it all goes downhill.

Highlights include The Hye Circus accusing everyone else of not playing any other games, insisting that powerleveing doesn't count if you don't intend to level, and how patterned boss battles would save everything. Pretty soon there is nothing but wank as people try to make sense of The Hye Circus' growing batshit.

Fairly small, but entertaining. I do make a few comments, but as I got out before it got really wanky I'm putting this here.

Anyone can use the strongest souls and items and win but a REAL MAN DOES WITHOUT THEM

Heh, and caps-lock-of-whatever just to prove 'how manly he is'.

The bosses in all Castlevania games are easy (okay, not the NES ones) if you're playing the game right. I wouldn't go after, say, Galamoth in SotN without the beryl circlet--I'd rather be clever than good at button-pushing.

Oh god. I missed the Beryl Circlet in that game my first time through and had to fight Galamoth without it.

It was so hard.

Suck! Did you at least have the lightning mail?

I did that too, and didn't have the lightning mail. I pretty much just spammed the Alucard Sword's special so he could never hit me (as soon as I got out of one warp I was going for a new one) and won like that.

My thumb hated me after that.

I'm sorry. I can barely go into some of those boards as it is, if I had to keep order I'd either run like hell or nuke them all.

I'd give you some hard drinks, but I'm still under 21. Would some porn work?

Got to page 5, then "tl;dr".

The guy seems to have a very set idea of how video games need to be made. (Like some of the other posters I too hate the "wait for the boss to finish dancing" approach.)

Dude, FUCK the NES purists. The reason they were so damn hard is because all the designers knew how to do was throw hordes of monsters at you that would kill you in one hit.

As someone wise once said, "it was like walking down the street when Zombie School was letting out."

To be fair, the problem with the NES Castlevanias, at least, wasn't so much the amounts of enemies (well, besides the FUCKING BIRDS AND FLEAMEN) as the general immobility of your character. Belmonts were a stiff and unresponsive breed until Simon married an acrobat or something and Juste inherited the genes.

Why they didn't just pass down from Leon, I have no idea. Out-of-order chronologies are fun!

"Patterned" boss battles? o_oa

Wait, are you talking about those insanely annoying ones like they had in KH:CoM where you could only hit the motherfucker if the grate was down or you broke his defense and you had to wait for hours and get all sorts of damage before you could hit them again?

.....

Fuck that shit man, i'll take being insanely overleveled any day.

Well, I don't know, he probably has been. He was always remarkably irritating, and I remember him being kind of bizarre and rabid about video games a few times. I just know him from elsewhere online. Chatted on and off with his less-crazy older brother for...wow, years.
Of course, it's possible that they were the sockpuppet kind of brothers, but there was a marked difference in behavior and the level of pain-in-the-assness, and that's a long time to keep up the sockpuppeting for no apparent purpose whatsoever.

Marcus444etc. and LawnNinja are just - yes. Lawn for the total rational calmness and reason and Marcus for...well...

Few people want to go through the hair ripping frustration of fighting an enemy that has a clear edge (an INCREDIBLE edge) over the player where the only way to win is by using an obscure HANG IN THE CORNER AND MASH THE B BUTTON technique to win.

and

So what's your point?? I'm trying to figure out the point to your rants other than I HATE THIS GAME IT ISN"T IMPOSSIBLY FRUSTRATING AND CAUSES ME TO PULL OUT MY CHEST HAIRSTHUS IT SUCKS.

Just - the imagery and the general tongue-in-cheek...

And randomly this (is that normal? I hate levelling up on account of the fact tedium sets in faster than hepititis :x ) killed me dead. XD

Also: Hye? You are unworthy to quote anything Lupin III. To do so requires a resne of humour - something you cllllearly lack. Step offa mah thief.

Wow, I usually just wank about how it sucks that nobody likes the games with Belmonts in them and Dracula needs to be the end boss again and not some kid with poor taste in fashion. (But that's why there's my beloved Julius mode!)

It never occurred to me that game mechanics in the newer CVs deserved that much wank.

Where were you when the Curse of Darkness board was exploding over how it was "3D OMG!"? Or when there's any given explosion over linear versus Metroidvania or difficulty level, or....

Yeah. I hate Castlevania fans. It used to be they were fairly quiet, now it seems like they're wanking over every little thing. Must be the new games.

(Which one had a "kid with poor taste in fashion", again? Besides DoS Julius mode.)

I was not being a part of the fandom, since my tastes for the games kinda stop being interested after SotN.

Which one had a "kid with poor taste in fashion", again?

That'd be the, um, Aria of Sorrow thing. I don't like Soma, particularly Kojima's design.

I kind of wish that they'd make the Belmont mode playable at the start, rather than after beating the game with Random Non-Belmont Dude, because then those of us who like the levelling, item-light buttonmash fighting could do our thing, those who want the dungeoncrawl, item-mongering fighting could do their thing, and then we could all...

Well, I was going to say "avoid wank" but we'd prolly still be having the same stupid arguments, because fandom is dumb. So I'll just go back over here and keep drawing naked pictures of Simon and Dracula. (not together)
