Fear the Jane Austen fans!
I was going to post this over at [info]fandom_lounge, but some of the comments contained in this story are so wanky that I decided to drop it here instead.

NPR's Morning Edition ran a story about the new Pride and Prejudice film, specifically about the reaction of the Jane Austen Society, who got a sneak peek before the movie's official opening today.

As we learn in the story, several fans are not too pleased with the new film, in the nitpickiest of ways. Keira Knightley's "carriage" does not befit a Regency lady, for instance. Darcy is "too sulky". The hair was unspeakably messy throughout. Etc. Much of it has the sound of fandom poker (i.e. I Know More About This Than You Do, So There). Highly amusing.

I haven't scanned the Pemberley boards for commentary yet, although here's a link if anyone feels like poking around.

(I love Jane Austen's books, but I can't work up an obsession for them like that. Or for much of anything, which is why I suppose so much of my involvement in fandom in general is limited to bemused observation.)

(Edited to change a pronoun with an unclear antecedent.)
