When it rains it pours. Hey, lookit here, we have more BPAL drama which I am lazily presenting. This one has been simmering for a while, actually, but I've been too lazy to post it. Brief summary: The BPAL forums have a subforum for the sharing of other scent-related companies. A post is made introducing Atropa's Cottage, a new perfume oil and other things company. All very well and good. People explore it. But drama is lurking! Someone posts a photo of her newly arrived order, to show people what the stuff looks like. Uh oh. Turns out the logo being used looks suspiciously like a logo that was submitted to a BPAL logo contest. Oh, dear. (See pages 2 & 3 of the thread) Ok, that get's cleared up but then we have more drama when someone says she thinks Atropa's Cottage is a just a mite too similar to BPAL and a very long discussion ensues. (Good stuff starts about Page 8) This eventually peters out but today, for your friday fun, we have a new drama! Atropa's Cottage released their Holiday LE scents. Uh oh. Someone notices some of them are rather similar to scents sold by a company called Sweetcakes. (Starts Page 16 and continues to 17) Further discussion is held at the LJ community and someone most likely a sock puppet posts more comparisons showing the similarities between Atropa's Cottage and Sweetcakes blends. And someone on the LJ community has just pointed out similarities between Atropa's Cottage and FeMaledictions, another scent company. Do we have a case of plagiarism in perfume? Step aside, Harry Potter* fandom! *Extra funny because Atropa's Cottage had a scent named Honeydukes and then it was mentioned that the Harry Potter people might not be so happy about that and the name was changed. C/P'd just in case. It's so great that all this can go on while I'm at work and can't really respond because I'm...working. So now that I'm home, here's all I have to say. I will say this once, and only once, because boy am I tired. The past couple months have been SO not worth it. If this comes off as snarky, that's because it is. I buy from 3 suppliers. I buy single notes and blends. If I buy blends, it's because I like them and they have the potential to be really nice. ALL BLENDS ARE ADDED TO. Obviously, I can't take away from them because the notes are already in there. When I state what notes are in a scent, I STATE THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE ALREADY IN THERE. I state them even though by adding to them, you may not be able to pick them up much anymore. I do this because some people have allergies and sensitivites and PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW WHAT THEY ARE PUTTING ON THEIR SKIN. I DO NOT "RE-PACKAGE" ANYTHING. I HAVE RECIPES FOR EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING IS "HAND-BLENDED" IN THAT I HAVE TO MEASURE OUT ALL THE INGREDIENTS OF A SCENT AND BLEND THEM TOGETHER, FOLLOWING A RECIPE. Is this not what "hand blending" means?? If it's not, then I guess I'm just an idiot. I'm tired of defending myself and explaining myself. I'm DONE defending myself and explaining myself. http://www.livejournal.com/community/at |
