EVEN MORE HP 'shipper wank!
A few weeks old, but too good to pass up posting.

At shipdebate, suckerforlove__ makes a post stating that R/Hr was "completely obvious!" (bold hers) and wondering how H/Hr shippers could possibly have thought their pairing would ever be canon:

I can understand how upset Hr/H shippers are and the disappointment and possibly anger? What I don't understand is the shock Hr/H shippers felt when there ship didn't happen, seriosuly what were you thinking? I truthfully can't see any implication of Harry and Hermione in the books at all!? Am I blind, were we reading the same books?

Can someone please explain this to me? (with examples)

Like almost everything posted to shipdebate, this starts a fight.

The community's H/Hr shippers respond, with ladylestat saying that, "real love is based on friendship and trust not jealousy and bickering." (Again, bold hers.)

Then andrea_ms answers suckerforlove__'s question with, "And, yes you're blind." starting off a threat arguing about whether the responses or the OP was more unconstrutive.

"Only" 85 comments, but full of H/Hr and R/Hr splooge (what more could you ask for?), if you care to poke around for a bit.

"suckerforlove_" was begging for wank by asking such a stupid question. She had to know how people would respond. No points for sounding obnoxious and condescending and expecting better from the other crazy people wankers.

I think where I get stuck in the HP shipping debates is the part where clearly whoever people decide to date in book six is their ONE TWOO WUV who they are going to go forth and marry despite being teenagers. Because, um, actually not that many people actually go on to marry the person they made out with when they were 16.

Seriously.

I don't even feel it necessary for Ron and Hermione to be IN "real love." Considering the age range I would find it quite plausible if the lot of them were in "raging hormone-induced physical attraction."

Of course, this goes along with me not understanding why people think Ginny is a whore because she kissed and/or had crushes on several different guys. And we all know that just means I'm crazy.

Shipping Wars? Part 1
[info]wankprophet
2005-11-16 08:14 am UTC (link)
Okay, I think it's time to just address these shipping wars once and for all. I'd do it in verse form, but some insane little nebbish, worn out from masturbating over their Draco/Snape's Giant Nose ship, might interpret that as a sign that s/he is being oppressed in the deadliest martial art of all, the Furious Feet of Iambic Quatrameter. Instead, I'll do a fable:

Once upon a time, there was place called Hogwarts, an imaginary wizarding school in a magical and probably equally-imaginary country called "England" (yes, named, prosaically enough. after the language spoken in America and most of India.) At this imaginary wizarding school were several imaginary prepubescent, pubescent, and barely-postpubescent students of varying degress of sexual hawtness, plus lots of ugly teachers that, through the magic (and a very great magic is was, O gentle reader) of selective perception, somehow became Romanesque sex gods and goddess in a way that Maybelline could only accomplish through the rampant use of Ecstasy and whiskey in their products.

These students and teachers were faced with a terrible dilemma. Having defeated the Most Evilest, Ugliest, Disembodied (but still sexy! never forget the sexiness!) Wizard of All Time, Monsieur Voldemort (who, we all know, was Evil, and therefore French), they little suspected that their adventures had only begun. The most important amongst them, a dweeb with grotty hair named Harry Potter, had two steadfast friends, Ron (whose dazzling Red Hair and splendiforous freckles made him look like a younger and much sexier Uma Thurman) and Hermione (whose flowing frayed-insulation coiffure and twitchy rabbit nose made her irresistable to anything with an atomic number over 13, especially lithium). The three of them had a mortal enemy in Draco Malfoy (whose ratfaced ferret looks and Hitleresque personality promised a great future pleasuring old women for money) and in their Potions professor, Severus Snape (yes, the same Snape who singlehandedly cleaned up the Exxon Valdez spill with his Grecian locks and his precious ivory Naugahyde skin.) Then there were a bunch of other people, mostly losers and pervs. Oh, and Ron had a jailbait kid sister. Who looked just like him, except without boobs. Not that it'll stop Harry from lusting after her.

What an amazingly Bad Idea.

My favorites:

Yes, obvious because of her so called anvilsized hints that any stupid 3 year old could have seen.

Sooo... they were "so called anvil-sized" but also "obvious"? What.

We thought she was smarter than that.

Did anyone predict Snape would knock-off Dumbledore? Or Horcruxes existed? Or Voldemort's family would be poor and inbred? Or that Snape was a half-blood, that Snape was a Muggle name, that our dear beloved Potions Master lived in a shamble of a house? Etc, etc. Did you guys figure out the plot of any HP book before reading it, ever?

Oh, wait. That's logic. There's nothing more to HP than shipping, after all! Tee hee!

I don't think you got the memo on common decency.

::groans:: "I offended someone on the Internet and all I got was this lousy, old meme!"

I'm usually a pretty nice person but you just drew the line.

"How DARE you insinuate that I have shipped fictional teenagers delusionally incorrectly online! This is worse than BIGOTRY. Or RUDENESS. Or BAD HAIR DAYS."

oh and thank you for your permission for me to have a right to freedom of speech :P

The Internet is not a country, you stupid person. It is not the USA, goddamnit. Shut up.

Aw don't be sorry! She just seems to have her head stuck too far up her ass to notice what she's doing.

Oh wait.. I think I'm insulting. That bad, that bad.

"I OFFENDED someone over the INTERNET and all I got was this LOUSY FLAME."

Seriously. I'm making a fucking icon.

It's REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING weird to see someone use so many BIEG WERDS yet still has not mastered the shift and comma keys. =/

But the thing is that HP isn't real life, JK can just write "and Ron and Hermione got married and had never got a divorce or were abusive or had an argument that wasn't resolved". Why? Because it's literiture, it's not reality.

Did I totally sign up for the wrong 'teenage romance' card back in the day when I was that age or something? I mean, I didn't meet my husband for another 15 years, and he *certainly* wasn't a classmate of mine. Was I the only one who dated more than one guy and thought he was OMG TRU LUV...until the next cute guy came along?

*joins the Ginny Slut Brigade in that case with utterly no shame*

No attempt to reply to a post that ends with Can someone please explain this to me? will ever end well. It doesn't matter what the subject is.

My favorite part is definitely the comment from [info]juju_bean:

You're not looking for any kind of debate, you're just looking to smack people about with your condensation.

*tries to visualise "condensation" smacking someone*

Rules for Twu Wuv, by H/Hr Shippers:

Twu Luv just happens. Working on a relationship...? Bah! That's for losers.

No arguments allowed! If the two of you don't agree on everything, you'll never get married.

Holding hands, touching another person, standing next to someone, or riding with them on a Hippogriff is always sexual and therefore should only be done with your Twu Luv. (Unless you're Sirius, in which case it doesn't count and you're probably just boinking the Hippogriff anyway.)

Friendship is the same as Twu Luv and should always lead to sex.

Twu Luvs should always get married. If you're not married by age 17, you're SOL and will die alone.

I'm amused by [info]theregoesyamum's comments to this post.

Also, she has a polislash icon, and that is clearly the way to my heart. ^^

What I don't understand is the shock Hr/H shippers felt when there ship didn't happen, seriosuly what were you thinking? I truthfully can't see any implication of Harry and Hermione in the books at all!? Am I blind, were we reading the same books?

Oh, I don't know. Maybe you could start with the fact that Harry and Hermione are very good friends, who love each other deeply? And that stranger things have happened than platonic love turning romantic?

I mean, honestly. I'm an R/Hr shipper, and I think that H/Hr is about as exciting as week-old stale toast, but it's not completely without justification. I can see why it might make someone else wibble and squee.
