Dan/Emma - The Erotic Quality of Sibling Love
The Dan/Emma shippers are quickly gaining a fond place in my heart. Undeterred by the Irish hairstylist/Dan Radcliffe gossip, they're continuing on in their exciting quest to smoke out Dan and Emma's true love. Highlights below from the Dan/Emma forum on Portkey. Includes colour shout outs, speculations that Dan and Emma have broken up, and various other manifestations of obsession.

PL Draft: Heh heh. Regis said something along the lines of "Well, we've had Daniel Radcliffe on recently, and you guys have done four movies together now; have you ever had any kind of attraction to him?" Poor Emma just didn't quite know how to respond to that! She broke out the usual; that she knows Dan really well for having spent nearly every day with him for the past four years, but no, there was never any attraction.

Then Regis said something along the lines of, "Yeah, but you can always see someone every day and then one day wake up and realize that this may be the one person you want to spend the rest of your days with," or some such. Emma was just like, "Um, Dan and Rupert are very much like older brothers. They're very protective of me," and then she said something about how if she brought a guy to any premieres Dan and Rupert would be giving him the "up-and-down" to make sure he wasn't a jerk or whatnot.

I think Regis then said something about how things might change, or something else along those lines.

Anyone have a transcript? Just thought I'd go ahead and post what of it I can remember. Poor Emma, though! Regis was relentless, even though he was voicing many of our opinions!

xrogue81: Has anyone read Emma's chat transcript from TeenHollywood.com? Oh my lordy!

Q: Who's your favorite teen-celebrity?
Emma: Dan!

Watch me melt into a puddle of goo.
I know most of the comments I've seen run along the lines of, "Geez... subtle much?" or "Stop looking at her boobs, Dan!" or "Stop flirting with each other in public!!!" Well, I say keep flirting in public, kids. Announce your love from the rooftop! I enjoy all the media attention you've been getting. Keep me squeeing!

ausben1129: Of course there is a attraction between them, what else could it be?
Repulsion?

Annearchy: It could be more like Emma and Rupert, who seem to operate on skew planes. No attraction there at all. Guess that means they'll have to do more ACTING in HBP to make it seem like Ron and Hermione really fancy each other

Penelope:
And I'm kind of hoping Regis is right by saying that "you can always see someone every day and then one day wake up and realize that this may be the one person you want to spend the rest of your days with!" (By the way, at this statement, I loved the way Emma was absolutely speechless and touching nervously her hair... )

Adamant Eve: I checked it out, BTW. Loveliest kodak moments I ever did see.

I'm beginning to suspect that Dan's ex was... well, you know. And now they're like really good friends who are terribly comfortable about each other. ::shrug::

Fact is, the reason why Emma and Dan are getting teased is because--well--frankly, their body language is just screaming an attraction between them. Seriously, my sis-in-law has a subscription for "Us Weekly" and "People Magazine" (yes, I read Hollywood gossip ) and the stars only act that way when they're dating, or something. Is it different in Europe? Dan and Emma are more affectionate than David Beckham and Posh Spice... and they're married!

Penelope: Well, since I'm European I can absolutely tell you that NO, is not different in Europe! And you're right, they seem a lot more affectionate than other known couples... maybe they're still not totally aware of this attraction or they do not want to ruin they're friendship, as they probably will going to work together for other three movies... who knows! But their body language is very, very ambiguous...

DementRoss: Tell me, movie wise, does Emma (Hermione) and Rupert (Ron) make a handsome couple? Maybe it's just me but, ergghh.. no, not seeing it. And their chemistry is not convincing enough. No squee at all. I'm being mean, I think. Yikes!

eowyn83: They do look so cute together Actually even when you listen to the interviews without the pics you can tell there is this SOMETHING between them. Rupert seems to be in his own world.

i love you comes in with Dan/Emma evidence from the movie: I just came home after i watched the movie..and its great..hahaha...i think the one that every one's talking about is...hmm..im not sure about this ok?.. the scene after dan/harry saved fleur's sister and ron...maybe...heehee...oh! and in that scene..hermione/emma kissed daniel's head...yep i know ..*squeeee*

meisangle meanwhile has details of a clothing shout-out: I've been a HP fan since 2003 and I've looked at many pictures of the trio at events and behind the scenes. Dan and Emma started to get very close around CoS. When I saw how Dan acted with Emma at the CoS DVD Launch in 2003 I knew something was brewing then...now it's almost 2006 and they still like each other (I'm actually surprised). It's pretty obvious that they have been a couple. I still think that they may be together because Dan and Emma were matching at the Tokyo Japan GoF press conference. He was in Australia but I'm assuming she called him and they decided to match each other's outfits! Personally I think Dan's whipped.

research dome: Emma was wearing a purple jacket and Dan's t-shirt had purple across the shoulders...interesting considering he knew he would probably only be seen in a head and shoulders shot!

I don't think Dan and Emma would have been quite so relaxed around each other in the UK press launch if they'd broken up. He can't stop looking at her and she is way too relaxed......

danlover: I'm slightly confused. So, do you guys think that Emma and Dan may have already gotten together, but broke up, and now she's his ex? Please someone clarify this for me.

Adamant Eve: Well, I for one have that sneaking suspicion. LOL!

I mean, they seem so comfortable and flirty with each other, and they're like... The Mutual Admiration Club. You can't be just friends and be comfortable with being like that, which is the reason I suspect.

For further insight into the Dan/Emma ship check out The Sweetest Thing, a Dan/Emma site with Reasons for Dan/Emma, including "Because they both think they are brother and sister."

Dear Dan/Emma people,

Dan and Emma are not Harry and Hermione.

I just thought I should let you know, since you don't seem to get it.

Love,
Me

Because Emma Radcliffe sounds better than Emma Grint.

Because we all know it's not true love unless his last names goes with her first name.

Wonder if people would marry me for the chance to have Sandman as their official last name? (If they were willing to take the female's name, that is.) Ho hum.

*sigh* You know, there is a very wide middle ground between attraction and repulsion, or else we'd all be trying to sleep with 98% of the people we know.

All Dan/Emma shippers will die virgins. I can feel it.

Regis ships H/Hr! He can see the truth, perhaps he'd consider being the group sibyl? He could have a pretty 2-legged chair, b/c we all know the number 3 is evil, since it references a trio and Ron/Rupert is abusive, like duh.

DementRoss: Tell me, movie wise, does Emma (Hermione) and Rupert (Ron) make a handsome couple? Maybe it's just me but, ergghh.. no, not seeing it.

And we all know everyone in the history of everything have all had the exact same opinions on what/who is and is not attractive.

"Because they both think they are brother and sister."

Wuh? So the ideal love is to take a a non-romantic sibling relationship and make it romantic? I'll have to tell my sister this when I got home for the holidays. Who knew true love and eternal happiness was right across the hallway? I bet all those fights we had were really our repressed passion for each other. It all makes sense now.

I can always count on Regis to ask the hard-hitting questions.

I think that's a rather sad state to be in.

I love how Annearchy seems to think that it's a bad thing that Rupert and Emma might have to ACT like the are attracted to each other in HBP. Um, they are actors, you know? It's their JOB to act while on camera like they think and feel things they don't in real life. The fact that these people don't understand this concept is clearly at the center of their batshit.

Yes, because obviously gossip magazines always get it right. I'll keep that in mind, mmkay?

Also, if those tinhats ever came to Greece, they'd go crazy from all the touching that happens here. Seriously.

These are the kind of idiots that never had a close friend of the opposite sex. 40 year old Hermione-wannabes going 'squee, when a girl and a boy act like that, they're in wuv,' are really, really pathetic.

My friends and I (male and female) hug every time we see each other and every time we say good bye. What would the wise Harmonian Dan/Emma shippers think of that?

For further insight into the Dan/Emma ship check out The Sweetest Thing, a Dan/Emma site with Reasons for Dan/Emma, including "Because they both think they are brother and sister."

I think these people must be in the same class I am--all we do is read sentimental literature about brother/sister incest.

Well, that's not true. Sometimes we read porn.

I just think it's not as funny as it is creepy. I mean, it's one thing to ship fictional characters, but real life kids. Young kids. I don't mind if Dan and Emma do like each other, I do mind if all these older people are drooling over it.

I'm even a cross-gen shipper and this squicks me to death.

Dear Harmonians Dan/Emma Shippers:

It's possible for men and women to be friends and to show affection towards each other without fucking like rabbits, and without Twu Wuv. Really. I promise.

Also? The fact that you're looking for "evidence" of a real romance between two teenage ACTORS is not only batshit, but completely creepy. Stop it. You're making the Domlijah tinhats look sane in comparison, because at least their loony was focused on adults.

No love,
Me

Because they both think they are brother and sister.

Reminds me of Chris and Cathy from Flowers in the Attic and the dozen or so other books centered around their family. Let's take a look.

Dan/Emma shippers = incest
Harmonians = obsessive love
Chris and Cathy = incest + obsessive love = girl getting knocked up by two other guys then living with her brother as husband and wife, causing her youngest son to go completely insane. Nice.
