On Saturday, whispered_life complains about a semi-coherent story she found on ff.net. There are the usual nitpicking and "oh god my eyes" comments, but a few people get their panties in an undue wad.

hitchhiker_42 declares intent to flame, as crappy fanfic authors MUST BE STOPPED!!!1. jadepheonix84 (remember this name, it becomes important later) announces that s/h/it is going Vole Hunting. Various posters are less than supportive.

On Monday, mod ladybirdsleeps reiterates in a new post: Dear people who take this too seriously, You DO NOT have the right to a fandom free of badfic. Authors who write badfic ARE NOT committing a crime. Fandom IS NOT a place you have to "deserve" to be in because you write well. Bad writing IS NOT an excuse for bad treatment.

Most of the community agrees. Several people dash up to the ramparts scanning for the F_W advance troops.

jadepheonix84, however, calls TROLL: I usually don't call people out, but I'll make an exception. Ladybird is a troll. I have proof too. Look at this post, it's creation is for the sole purpose of starting a fight.

And on a post about a twelve-year-old bad!fic author, I made the mistake of saying I was going to write a "scathing review" to the author. Of course, in the end I only wrote some kind advice to the author. Ladybird posted a reply calling me a 'bully' who is proud of putting other people down. Now, I'll admit that it was my fault for saying I was going to write a scathing review before actually doing it. I replied to LadyBird explaining this in a polite manner and apologized. So far, she has not responded.

Now, I may be jumping to conclusions. She may have not noticed it or hasn't found the time. But it seems to me that she simply didn't repy because I didn't fight back, and actually said I was sorry for giving her the wrong idea. Think about it, trolls start fights, and usually don't bother with people who don't fight back with them.

And for the record, I don't condone flaming bad!fic authors. I'll admit though that when I write concrit that I can be harsh. This is just how I am, but I'm not doing it to insult the person I giving concrit to.

As many people have pointed out here, this is a rant community/ This is where frustrated fanfic writers/readers vent off some steam. It's not that we take fanfic seriously ( or elistist, for that matter, it's just that we enjoy fanfic and don't like bad!fic because it makes reading fanfic less enjoyable.

So I will not say "word", because the one thing trolls hate is someone agreeing with them. And who am I to make one unhappy?

Coincidentally, within a matter of minutes s/h/it posts to inform the community at large that s/h/it has "Lost my will to rant" and is LEAVINGOMG. Because of, um, having too much homework. Yeah, that's it.

I'm leaving this community. Feel free to delete this post, I just didn't want to leave without a explaination ( I consider it rude) . Due to some difficult real life problems and increasing amounts of school work, I have rearenged my priorities and ranting about fanfic just didn't make the top five ( I had to fit work in there somewhere). So as of today, I am leaving Ficrants along with a few other communities, as well as deleting my only community.
