	I think Racism is hilarious and I have several "black" friends that would agree with me as well. If you worry about every little thing that concerns "race" then you just haven't lived. Japan is what, 99% ethnic Japanese or thereabouts, with the remaining 1 or 2% being mostly ethnic Koreans? Yeah, there are racism issues there, but I think the main reason that there aren't more ethnic minorities that people in the US and other places would recognise is that they simply aren't there. It's a matter of who's the majority, and in a country that homogenous..why should they think to make games with black people in them? Hell, there aren't a hell of a lot of games in the US with Hispanic characters in them (especially not in a positive light), and that particular group either is or is going to become the largest minority group in the country if current trends continue.

	And an addition, since I'm talking about this with the friend who pointed me here: If someone wants to deal with racism in games, they should deal with the portrayals of black and hispanic people in American-made games. Sorry, but you're wrong. What you mention is material of the nihonjinron - pretty much propaganda a lot of people would like to believe, which doesn't make it true.

You forgot Ainu, Brazilians, Philippines, Chinese, Okinawaens, Konketsuji(mix bloods basically...african/japanese or european/japanese for example)...

...who are already a lot.

Not to mention other ethnical minorities, like burakumin(descendants of members of the outcast - called eta/hinnin(which means nonhuman)), hibakusha(descendants of the victoms of the atomic bombs), nikkeijin(descendants of japanese people who lived overseas)...

As far as I know, it's not 1 or 2 percent, but four to five percent. And that's not a small number.

Japan is absolutely not homogenous. That's a clichee. The minorities are there, and they face quite a lot of prejudice. The thing is: Many of the japanese would rather close their eyes and claim their population is homogenous. It's an ideal that is steming from way back, even before the second world war.

No offence intended, but it's pretty true. You can easily look each of these minorities up if you like ^^;

	I've known a few, and in all cases it took me a long time to learn their race. The issue just never came up, I guess because the discussions had been so much more about fandom issues than our personal lives. Right now, when I think of the people in my fandom... To be fair, it's not like it should be an issue. I have an LJ friend who I didn't know was black until several months after we flisted - because it doesn't, and shouldn't, matter. I mean, I don't walk into a forum and introduce myself as Caucasian, so why would I expect a different ethnicity to do the same?

That's the one semi-positive thing about the internet. It strips away all the visuals and forces you to judge people by what they say.

black people get a bad name because of the bad black people. There are bad and good people in every race, no exceptions. I live near detroit, and there are way more bad black people than good. Because of the economic status of the city. Also there is bound to be more crime caused by blacks in detroit, they make up the majority of the population. Hope you enjoyed my overly simplistic argument, but it makes sense.

But ummm...probably been answered already but, no black people because anime-like entertainment like this never portrays alot of black people...probably because they were seen as inferiors when first introduced to the world, so they never really were integrated into big roles in games like these.

Funny...I live near Detroit too, and I wouldn't say this.... Granted, my experiences mostly come from my college campus, where you could argue the economics are different. But I did not enjoy the overly simplistic argument, kthxbye.
