"Buttsex- Slightly Less Serious Business"
All I can think to say is that y'all are slackers for not posting this already.

So House is, well, not the straightest of shows. There have been slash fans since the first episode, and as the show has progressed, the slasher fanbase has grown.

The show is really quite encouraging to slashers-- in the first season, House asked his best friend (and the other half of the most common slash pairing) if they were breaking up. In the past two episodes, the gay references have arguably increased, culminating in the most recent episode, in which something spoilery happens. Slashers call, in true inspired-by-TWOP-fashion, shoutout.

Contessa_Maggie is none too thrilled about what she sees as writers pandering to a small subculture. Many agree but some get mighty pissed. Of course, there are cries of homophobia and people from both sides claim to be leaving the community.

And then, aleph_abyssal gets in on the action, starting off by very rationally explaining that sometimes, you aren't going to like what's on the show, but getting a little off-track in her argument that "hey, maybe one's gay!" People argue the gay character thing while my new favorite person makes an 80s music analogy and calls for peace in the fandom</a>. There's an argument about whether tv is ready for teh gay that becomes a Dr. Who discussion. Other claim that fandom animosity is because the slashers get annoying. People tell us their feelings about yaoi and those who think House and Wilson are perfectly straight want their writer gifts too, dammit!

Finally, there are pictures.

God I love this show. (also, goat_song, since I think you're on here, sorry there's been so much insanity in your comm.)

eta: ack, I'm so sorry I meant to watch closer to make sure I hadn't fucked up the html and then there it went :(

For the OP's reference, the mistake is here:

And then, aleph_abyssal <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/community/house_md/653644.html>

Just needs a close quote after the URL.

I feel like I need to send Universal a note saying "Please don't feed the slashers!" Were the slashy subtext actual canon, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's not, though, and the cute little innuendoes have worn out their welcome for a lot of folks who otherwise love the show.

I am confused. So, deliberate innuendoes do not equal subtext, but even if they did, the resulting subtext isn't canon?

If it's part of the show... how isn't it canon?

*has never ever seen House*

Okay, so she thinks gay jokes happen in shows because the writers are reading the slash specific messageboards and deciding "YES. WE WILL START AIMING EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW!"

And not because people have been finding that sort of thing hilarious for ages?

For those who remember Oz (a prison drama starring just about everyone), the married main character fell in love with a 3-times-married man well into the second season. Okay, so he had been raped by neo-Nazi in the opening credits, but still, he was straight, and what was supposed to be a 4-episode arc carried the show into 6 seasons. The Beecher/Keller romance became the most important plot line in an ensemble show. (It did the actor Lee Tergesen well – he was invited by Bryan Singer to try out for X-Men's Wolverine)

I thought the part where House was claiming to be gay was funny. I didn't think he was trying to make any kind of a statement, but hey, fandom is fandom. Gay, straight, or indifferent, House is a pain in the ass, and that's the only aspect of his character I care about.

Well, I suppose there's something form of comfort to be derived from the fact that whatever else changes, House_MD will still be a veritable utopia of stupidity, wank, and generalized lameness. I'm stunned to see some few sane people I remember from the days before I got sick and jumped ship are still hanging out there--of course, some of them are mods, but still. Slamming your head off the desk daily because people are seriously discussing the inability to open a childproof cap is proof that OMG HE'S DYING OF VICODIN has to be at least uncomfortable enough to make even the godlike joy of modhood pale after a while.

Some of those petty little fights here have been funny. Homophobia is not funny, to me. I don't just mean the poster, I mean the comments as well. Preeetty much makes me not want to be associated with this fandom or the people in it. At least now I won't have to see it on my flist.

Poor dear, I love the way that anyone who doesn't like slash is a homophobe. I was accused of the same thing once, when I said I didn't like HP slash. Of cours,e this person didn't know that I read slash from other fandoms.

The petty little fights would make me want to stay though!

It's been said by many fans from many fandoms before but I'll say it again- I was wondering how long it would take this to get over here. *sighs* My two cents worth (having seen the episode in question) is holy Cracker Jacks people! It was a snide remark because House is a snide bastard. I really didn't look that closely into it's supposed hidden meanings until someone brought it up in the house_md community and even then I was like, "Huh?". Never take anything that comes out of House's mouth seriously- he even said himself in the same episode that he lies like it's his job.

Besides, the writers are going to do what they like so fans need to stop acting like they are the center of the universe and can change the course of a show just by offering opinions online.

I wish I could get Channel 5 where I live. Then I might be able to see this show in the UK and know what everyone's on about.

*self-pity*

Mind you, I do have a DVD machine. Must start scanning the TV shows section of the library :)

Er, that didn't have much to do with anything, did it? I'll go away now.

At that point in the episode I facepalmed. Partly because I'm a slasher and it made me happy, but mostly because I knew something like this would happen. I thought the comment was dead funny. Obviously House was being his usual snarky self, so can't everyone just laugh at the joke? It takes a lot less work than turning on the computer, typing out a complaint about it, and posting it on a board where a great number of slashers lurk. It is asking for a wank, and that's that.

Oh man, this reminds me of when Beast said the same thing, setting off a war between the phobics and the slashers that was... really funny to watch. So many refused to realize he was *joking* and trying to piss off his ex.

House is just lucky his ex isn't a reporter who'll sell the story to the tabloids...
