t-t-t-two wanks in one!
Randy of Something Positive fame recently introduced a surprise character into the regular SomPos lineup - Kestrel, a character originally from the now-ended Queen of Wands. Though SomPos and QoW crossed over several times in their shared past, apparently people were kind of surprised by this.

On the Queen of Wands LJ community, kalelian really doesn't like the idea.

Naturally, of course, people make both logical and illogical arguments agreeing and disagreeing, but then salem_wikkat makes a new post breaking out the WHAAAAMbulance of derision.

A few highlights so far...

If you don't like it, don't read it!

dragonbane invokes the Wikkan Rede

Small, but growing.

And there's bonus wank on the Something Positive LJ community, where both critic and whambulance driver crosspost like whoah!

Edit the First: Corrected HTML for first SomPos comm link. Also note that the QoW Whaaambulance post has been deleted, probably by Aeire (QoW creator and community maintainer) who is not at all thrilled about the whackos coming out of the woodwork threatening to sic Internet Lawyers on Randy for theft, and proceeds to encourage sycophantic posts of agreement put the smackdown on those getting up in arms about the whole thing.

I know I was surprised to see Kestral, mostly cause I remember S*P author being asked before, and I thought his answer was more of a negative, its not really going to happen.

Though it had been said ages before that, that Kestral might move to Boston, i think.

Heh. *Gets out the popcorn*

I thought he had her hit by a car in the S*P comic immediately after the end of Queen of Wands...?

*shrug* Oh well. I just find the art style a bit jarring, but I'm assuming that Aerie knows about it and approves.

Oh yeah, I remember that! It was in this strip, and there was a wank about it. I could never get into SP, myself.

Yeah, Kestrel got hit by a car. She's discussing it in the most recent S*P strip. Anyway, Aeire and Randy are friends. I'm sure she thinks it's hilarious, both the appearance and the wank. As for Randy? Well, I'm not sure what he'd do with himself if random people on the Internet weren't hating on him.

I was pleased to see the ass-end of QoW. It gave me pleasure to think of Kestrel's juicy demise. Now she's BACK? Damn.

I love this quote:

"I enjoyed her being portrayed realistically. Randy's art is much more stylistic, something I don't think Kestrel's character lends herself to well."

Yes. Because Aerie's people were not at all pupil-less and bucketfill-colored.

O WRD.

Queen of Wands' art style made my eyes hurt. Hard to say if it was the simplistic line work and 8-bit colors, or possibly the humorously awful assortment of 3 facial expressions everyone was forced to share. It gave me EYEBALL TUMORZ. I had to start up a shitty webcomic of my own with slightly higher production values to ease the pain.

I'm indifferent when it comes to this Kestrel character. I fan SomPos, and that's enough for me.

I'm detecting a hint of HP fandomish "Randy betrayed us" attitude in those posts.

I'll admit that I am biased on this issue, because I was quite the fan of QoW and still am a fan of Som*Pos. I don't mind Kestrel being back. To me, a webcomic isn't about the art style so much as the content - if it's funny, it serves its purpose.

But dude... kalelian's post was (I thought) fairly reasonable. She didn't whine, or wank, just said that she wasn't personally a fan of the Kestrel resurrection. But the responses... oh, the responses...

I can't decide if this is good because now Kestrel will be less whiny and passive, or bad because now she'll be lumpy and an unfunny one-liner factory lacking in realistic character development like every single other Something Positive character*.

Perhaps I could decide, though, if I only cared.

*except, ironically, the bimbo redhead that Devan's parents adopted.

You forgot 'verbose'. Verbosity is acutely important for an SP character.

I read S*P and hate it when Randy and Aeire get together to do a crossover. I just want plain normal S*P, like Aubrey and Choo-Choo bear summoning Cthuulu. Damn if Randy and Aieire like each other so much they should just get married.

Are you the person who pitched a fit because checking out two webcomics was too difficult for you, and ended up being smacked down by the S*P comm?

'Cause if you are then yeah I really would suggest you not post to the internet anymore.

At least not until you can handle reading two different comics.

I actually thought Kestrel was dead - but it wouldn't be a comic without an unexpected resurrection, would it?

Look out for part two: 'The rise of Dark Kestrel'
