HP: All your Snarry archives are belong to us!
There's this Snarry archive called Detention, right?

A former mod, [info]biting_moopie, makes a post about what's been going on lately with the archive and why she's no longer affiliated with it. [info]atrata (another former mod) makes a post also, making a similar statement and linking to Moopie's post for clarification.

[info]individum, who is the archive owner (and who appears to have deleted her LJ as a result of prior wank involving the archive -- I've no clue what that's about), gets wind of this and posts an indignant rebuttal to snarry_detention (the LJ community affiliated with the archive) using the mod journal.

Apparently, she's been MIA from the site and she thinks this is perfectly fine because it's her archive and she'll do with it what she pleases. Among other things, she accuses the former mods of lying about their levels of involvement since her break began. However, there are screencaps that suggest otherwise.

Bonus mice: there's this mouse called "Alexandra Dane" who supports the former mods and thinks Page is out of line and then there's this other mouse called "Al" who keeps following Alexandra Dane around and telling her to STFU. It's kind of cute.

ETA: Alexandra Dane's stories have been deleted from the archive, too.

ETA2: Detention is now CLOSED, and it's all fandom_wank's FAULT! I'm taking my TOYS and LEAVING!!1one!1 >:0!1

Just to clarify: In regards to deleting her journal, I have no idea what that was about either. If it had anything to do with the site, I wasn't aware of it. All she said to me was that she was sick of fandom. I'm keeping far away from snarry_detention so I haven't read the post, but deleting Alexandra Dane's fics is ridiculous.

Thank you, Fandom Wank, for blowing up an unfortunate situation and losing fandom one of the best archives it ever had.

I for one will always remember Page as one of the most dedicated and selfless people in fandom, who did an exceptional job and got nothing but wanks for it.

This is truly the cruelest and most ungrateful fandom of all, hands down.

Just a few points of clarification -

* she was missing for the site and yes, she has every right to do so. She gets to decide when she updates, no one else, and whining about it never changed anything. Perhaps her real life was busy?

*yes, she should have responded to emails from her co-mod (biting_moopie). It would have been the polite thing to do, and all the freaking out would have been averted.

* as to accusing former mods of lying about their levels of involvement - the screencaps refer to atrata proving that she tried to email Page during the 'missing time' and has nothing to do with the length of atrata's involvement as a mod. If atrata was a mod for two months, and had nothing to do with the archive for over ten months, then it's not a lie.

*sigh* Really, it's such a small little wank. Of course we're all pissed that Detention shut down - it was *the* best archive for Snape/Harry writers. But I don't think it'll cause dissention amongst the troops 'cause we're all pretty laid back people. And if HBP didn't sink the ship, this minor scuffle will have no effect.

Am I the only one who thinks 1) that Biting Moopie and Atrata both made very gracious posts finalizing their affiliation with the website and that 2) closing the archive was probably the best thing that Individum/Page could have done?

Honestly, I really don't want to come down too hard on Page because it sounds like she was dealing with a lot of stuff behind the scenes, and it's hard when people put expectations on archivers that they wouldn't dare place on individual fanartists and fan writers. There is no "obligation" to host or maintain or update an archiving site, just as there is no "obligation" for writers to finish up their interminable WIPs. People who don't like how an archive site is run are welcome to find another or start their own. Whatever Page has been going through, it really IS out of line for others to lecture her about her responsibilities. Especially by people to whom she is doing a favour. I can see why that got to be too much for her.

It looks like you've got three nice people who have totally different takes on what was going on, and a whole bunch of outsiders commenting on things without having all of the facts (and yes, I know that is kind of what I'm doing here too). As a writer, I can understand the impotence that is engendered when an archiving site that once seemed reliable no longer seems that way... but I can also see the other side of this. That's one of those hard knock lessons all writers and artists and archivers and fen need to learn along the way: the more you rely on others, the more you open yourself up to being let down and allowing yourself to get hurt.

For Page, hopefully she's learned that hard work cannot compel gratitude. I hope that she remembers this if she ever opens an archive again, so that she can do everything in her power to keep it easy and fun for HERSELF so that she doesn't need to make herself feel like she's putting herself out. Sometimes the only way to stay sane on the internet is to keep it selfish... and, paradoxically, sometimes that's the only way to remain kind to others as well. If Page had told herself, "I just want one easy place where I can find all the fics I want to read, and all the porn I want to look at, and if that means hosting a web archive, I'm game," a whole bunch of this might have been easier for her to bear.

I have no sympathy for this chick. I have people on my flist who work hard just like she does running daily sites(Daily_Snitch, Hogwarts_Daily, HP_Art_Daily, etc) and they get hit with bullshit and complaints all the time for a free service they provide, that's life so deal.

And speaking of free, there seems to be a clarification in order. Did others help her pay for the Snarry site or not? If so I'd want my freaking money back, paypal bitches!
