encouraging hate and bad feelings ([info]feenix) wrote in [info]fandom_wank,

I only wank the ones I love.
So you know (and want to harass me), I go by Phoenix Rising. I'm one of the characters in this entire saga...so, yeah, I'm not unbiased. I initially had reservations about wanking this (since yeah, I do like the board and a lot of these people), but recent events (i.e., it coming back from the dead) changed my mind.

It all started two and a half weeks ago on a community I frequent.

So, we were all discussing Livejournals (most all of the regulars, myself included, have them), and the discussion--as many others do--wanders totally off topic.

Then someone busts in with:
Why would anyone put their innermost thoughts on paper? Eventually someone will read it, and then there will be hell to pay. I swear, some people are actually so unstable that they crave the attention they get from such confrontations. Take that a step further and you have LiveJournal. Imagine your diary. Then imagine your diary open for the whole world to see. How stupid. I heard someone say that LiveJournal represents the decay of Western society. I think I have to agree.
The first few responses are relatively level-headed, mainly consisting of, "Well...you can lock it, if you didn't know" and "You're being a little over-the-top."

Our protagonist (let's call him "Magus Zeal") comes back with, "Well, wouldn't you agree that it's a waste of time and totally pointless?" Flamage begins to ensue. A ban is implied.

However, Livejournals are totally pointless and you'd better spend your time talking face-to-face.

Hilarity ensues.

Wouldn't you agree that it's a waste of web space? It's like a fan site where a celebrity is featured and their doings are posted, but only real celebrities would never use live journal, so it's only normal people posting their posts that wrot without ever being read by anyone. Doesn't that make it a waste?

So...it wouldn't be a waste if famous people did it?

::squints::

Nah, that can't be it.

Hm. So what sort of LJ-related burn is he recovering from, do you think?

No it wouldn't.

Because then, it's history.

Eh, I just enjoy him because of the hypocrisy.

If you want to express yourself, why not write a poem, paint a picture, sing a song, or arrange a rock garden? Aren't those much more worthwhile ways of expressing yourself? Like they say: talk is cheap, so keeping that in mind, I don't think that just blabbing about what you think is very worthwhile.

Wow! I didn't know the Final Authority on Worthwhile Activities was on that board! I'm all a flutter now!

(Seriously, that guy needs a fucking clue . . . )

I didn't know 'arranging a rock garden' qualified as being a worthwhile activity. They're, well... rocks.

Is this his deeply demented way of asking for an lj-code?

Why would anyone put their innermost thoughts on paper?

When they can broadcast it on line? I don't know, ask Mr Pepys.

Eventually someone will read it, and then there will be hell to pay.

'Cause, they might, ya know, say something mean or something.

I swear, some people are actually so unstable that they crave the attention they get from such confrontations.

Gee, not unlike....you!

As they say, he protesteth too much. I wonder what kind of bug crawled up his butt.

There's a party going on that I don't understand, but I'm not bothered. It must suck anyway. I don't want to be included. Nope. Not curious at all. It's stupid, really. Anything I'm doing must be better. [continue ad nauseam]

And he gets a newspaper whack from me for the Angst Boi sig/avatar/name combo as well. That kind of crap goes over when you're 14, but he speaks as if he's nearing or in college. *whack!*

I've seen a lot of this before; is it really so hard to grasp the fact that people do things because they enjoy it, even though you don't understand why?

Curse you, Phoenix. Now you've got me thinking I want to go hang with you guys over there, even though I'm not a Magus fan and thus don't have much reason to join a forum for his fans. *bangs head into wall*

That's funny, though. Even if he's right and we are all wasting our time on blogging...well...so what? Waste my time blogging, or waste my time playing Minesweeper? Hmm...

Dear people saying LJs are totally pointless,

We're so terribly sorry that none of us can be as deeply profound and interesting as Anne Frank was in her diary. Because you know, she always wrote about her pain of being trapped every single day and how d33p and significant it was, and never about the pointless and silly mundane things that happened during her living in hiding, or the nice little fleeting somethings that kept her spirits up and her dreams. And she never vented over stupid stuff the other people living with her did that others would've just forgotten about. And she never thought of being an "exhibitionist" by becoming a journalist and publishing those experiences in the future, had she made it out alive.

We apologize for not catering to your standards. Really.

Sincerely,
Pointless No-Life LJ Users

If there isn't one, then I might've just made enough cause for the creation of one. ;)

Of course, someone far more clever than I can probably somehow come up with some way of correlating the whole Anne Frank = Jew in WWII = WWII had Nazis = Nazis Invoke Godwin's Law without making it look like they're grasping for one too many straws. :D

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]feenix

Actually, the correlation's even closer than that.

Anne Frank=WWII Jew who was persecuted by Nazis::person against persecuting us=Nazi!!!!

Also it's not like face to face converstations with REAL[tm] people can't be pointless, or silly, or annoying. I mean I know that every single converstation I'VE had with REAL people was always very Deep and Meaningful where we discussed the True Meaning of Life.

It's like we screwed around, made bad jokes and complained about the things that bugged us.

Really!

"but only real celebrities would never use live journal"

There may or may not be celebrities on livejournal, but lots of celebrities certainly do have weblogs.

I dunno, people have been posting their diary/journal-like webpages on the net for years now... livejournal is just one of the many blogging tools that make it easier.

I think he's wasting his time arguing over this. Why isn't he out creating art instead of yakking on some bboard?

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]jfpbookworm
2003-07-01 11:39 pm UTC (link)
Oh, bboards are different:

I'm not blabbering on. Posting something on a virtual billboard where someone might or might not read it is blabbing on(that's what I meant, anyhow). We are having a conversation.

Yes. Posting something on a virtual billboard where someone might or might not read it is blabbing on.

Let's see... is he posting on a virtual billboard? Yes.

Are people reading or not reading it? Yes.

Therefore, he is blabbing. ^_^

But wait... he's standing on a soap box shouting at people having a conversation. Therefore, he is not blabbing. Because, you see, even if a real life conversation consists of nothing but people making random comments on why some people write the letter 'a' differently from others, it is more valuble than a conversation with someone you can't see.

He's beating a dead horse here. And the horse is not pleased.

Of course. He's got such a fantastic RL social life that he wouldn't want to associate himself with those total nerds who develop online friendships and relationships and use LJ as a form of communication with them.

And yet he still has time to participate in a 9-page message board thread and tell these same people what is and isn't worthwhile for them to be doing with their own lives and webspace. Funny how that works.
