Final Fantasy fans are wanking. I bet you never saw that coming, huh?
So, over on that wonderful bastion of wank, GameFAQs, Ashley Winchester writes a review for the Game Boy Advance port of Final Fantasy IV that is...less than glowing.

People wank.

Discussion ensues about the validity of opinions, whether reviews should contain opinion, Yoshitaka Amano, the validity of Ashley as a man's name and more ensue.

This one's just getting started. This one's already been deleted. -_- The GameFAQs mods, they work swiftly.

EDIT Adding a link to the review that caused it all. It provides a new standard by which tl;dr should be judged, so you may want to stock up on provisions first.

I actually bought it ages ago for Playstation - it came with Chrono Trigger. (Provided I'm thinking of the right game, 'cause right now I can't find it...)

I may be wrong, but I think they are being so quick because they are on alert over at the KH2 boards.

It was just released in HK, so spoilers abound and the mods are puncing lickity split.

kinda bizarre, that...I mean, isn't a review basically one person's opinion of something? With games, it contains facts about bugs, performance, etc., but still, at the end, it's heavily mixed with opinion.

True, but there should be a certain amount of objectivity there. Like, if a person hates war games they probably shouldn't review war games. But if they absolutely have to, they should try to review it based on its merits, not on how they liked it. I couldn't find the review in question, I only found a different one by a guy who liked it, so I don't know what's going on here.

Ashley is one of many names--like Robin, Vivian, Shirley, Leslie, Andrea, Hilary, and a lot more--that used to be guy's names, but once they started being given as women's names, they fell out of favor for men. Because once women get their grubby little hands on things, they're no good for men anymore of course. *eyeroll*

I only skimmed the last bit of the review, but the thing that made me roll my eyes was her request for all new just-for-portable system FF games. Look at how long it's taking for them to get FFXII out the door--they just aren't going to spend the resources to make a new game, especially since they wouldn't make as much money on a portable-only game, not when the series is now known as much for its stunning art as it is its storylines. Oy.
