If you wank in the matrix do you wank here?
In a small, dark corner of the internet, the Matrix fandom is fapping away quite merrily. There are no words for some of the batshit. The Matrix Community calls itself the 'oldest and best' Matrix fansite on the intarwebs... but it also appears to be among the wankiest!
Recently there was a change of administration, and the new admin hasn’t gone down too well. The wank sprawls across a huge amount of forums and threads, but here for your pleasure are a few highlights.
It seems to have started when the new admin, Hal7k, wants to know why no one is playing anymore (we used to be so enlightening! we used to be so smrt! where has the zen gone?!1one!). Vel, the old admin who resigned a few months ago, gives her opinion. She goes on to give some ideas from an LJ community she’s involved in. It doesn’t go down very well, because LJ is not highbrow enough for the intellectuals found at Matrix boards (also, LJ is too 'masturbatory' as it panders to the personality cult! OPPRESSION!!1)! Highlights from this thread: OMG! Dun be meen!; Stop calling me a dictator!; Something is rotten in the state of TMC.
So, Hal7k refuses to start the poll for new moderators. Igpajo, one of the mods, does it instead. He also starts a poll about some new forums (everything is polled and voted on at this place). Hal7k complains.
Meanwhile, Igpajo asks if he should move the thread discussing ‘Lost’ from the Sci-Fi forum, to the new TV forum. Good Christ, what a disrespectful thing to do!
... very disrespectful, it seems. In fact, the balance of good and evil in the world is in danger of tipping out of control! I introduce you to my favorite bit of the whole wank: Instead of picking on me, why don't you go and cuddle some babies with AIDS?!
Still with me? OK. Hal7k starts a poll about where to put the new moderators, but manages to include a little friendly persuasion to vote her way in her poll introduction. People object. A lot.
Eventually a group of members gets together and comes up with a formal motion of no confidence against the new admin, outlining the reasons why they would like her to step down. Among the signatories are moderators, ex-moderators, the former admin and other long-term members. They're quickly dubbed 'the nine' by some outraged members - yeah, it goes down really well. There’s a whole lot of tl;dr, some serious oppression, some admirable usage of TEH CAPSLOCK OF RAGE! and accusations of ‘internet war = no life’ (brilliantly, this coming from the woman some of you Matrix geeks may remember as featuring on the Matrix Revisited DVD’s ‘real fans’ section, claiming the Wachowski Brothers were inspired by aliens).
And lastly, the shocking discovery that ‘the nine’ have an LJ community,tmc_refugees! Now we know they’re evil.
I have a feeling this one isn’t over yet. ;)
