Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
David Letterman is a bad, bad man.
I suppose this falls into the Fannish Absurdities category, rather than strictly being wank. I posted earlier on [info]fandom_lounge, but now that there's more information, I figured I'd post it here.

Further to my earlier post about David Letterman's mental harrassment of a Nevada woman and her restraining order, The Smoking Gun has posted a bunch of transcripts of her statement, indicating the sort of mental abuse that David Letterman subjected her to through code-words and "jestures" on his show.

Not only that, but David Letterman isn't the only one involved! Other villains include Regis Philbin and Kathy Lee Gifford. Fortunately, Kelsey Grammer is there to rescue her from the horrid David.

They are available here.

David Letterman is not the only one involved!

"...David Letterman as the root cause to my bankruptcy but it also involves Regis Philbin, Kathy Lee Gifford, and Kelsey Grammer."

David leads her on:

"Dave responded to my thoughts of love, and, on his show, in code words & obvious indications through jestures and eye expressions, he asked me to come east. He even mentioned in Showtime conversation "Nevada" before I had achance to get a letter off letting him know that, infact, I did live in Nevada."

Kelsey Grammer warns her away!

"Turned out, Kelsey did everything in his power to dissuade me from marrying Dave. While Regis supported the alliance. With Kelsey, entire Frasier plots were "dedicated" to communicating the futility of such an alliance, with his primary argument: "you have nothing in common with each other.""

She dumps Dave for a more worthy man:

"By 1998 my desperation for a friend was evident, for Dave never once "was there" for me..and that is when I turned my attentionto Kelsey. I began writing him, in the fall of 1999."

...

Is all this for real, or is it some bizarre publicity stunt, with the woman trying to grab her 15 minutes of fame? Did a judge actually grant her a restraining order, and did Letterman's lawyers actually talk to the press, or is this woman playing the media?

I'm reading the woman's letter on smokinggun:

I truly don't want to sue. It would be better for Dave to face up to it on his own (grow up),...but my life is at the edge of the abyss.

(Combination of ellipses and the comma is hers, not mine.)

Yes, it's Mr. Letterman who has issues. Okay, crazy lady.

oh, oh!

This reminds me of a website that was online about 5 years ago (no idea if it still is, I couldn't find it with a quick google search). It was about a guy chronicling that the BBC was monitoring him: his whole house was bugged, and the newscasters and presenters would make comments about him live on TV, directly related to what he was doing/thinking.

It was just as batshit, and a *lot* more detailed.

I'll admit, I haven't read any of the actual articles, but to address everyone who is incredulous about the restraining order:

I'm fairly positive that ALL restraining order requests, no matter how potentially illogical they may be, are immediately granted on a temporary basis, until the issue can be properly taken care of with a judge. This is for the immediate safety of the person requesting the restraining order, so that between the time it takes to request it and then have it officially granted, the person can still be "safe" from the other.

That that HAS to be the case here, as I can't honestly see any judge granting her an actual restraining order based on what I've read.

Having said that, I'm no law student, and could very easily be wrong. But I'm pretty sure I read this in my criminal justice class last summer.
