Final Fantasy IV wank!
Over on GameFAQs, user Duthos is angry. The port of FFIV to the GBA was not up to his standards, and he feels the need to tell Square Enix and the GameFAQs boards all about it though a poorly captialized letter.

Of course there is wank, with everyone on both sides accusing each other of being fanboys and living in their mother's basements. Bonus! Ashley Winchester starts showing up at the end! (Though the rest is perfectly entertaining all on its own.)

The only thing I really didnt like was the bonus dungeon on the moon.

Not a comment on the wank. That line just cracked me up, 'cause that's something you can only say talking about video games.

Or maybe it's just late and I'm tired.

Maybe in the future this will become a common expression.

So, wait. You can't criticise a high-selling game because it's making money and no one will care?

Um, no. Just because a company is making money does not mean it can release games with bugs and not care about what people think. A company should always care, regardless of it's success and talent.

And if it ever stops caring, it'll get a helluva lot less successful.

Or any other game-publishing company, really.

They don't give a damn about how the game works, they just want shinies from selling it. And they're the ones who dictate how much time and money is given on the game's work - developers either have to roll with their terms or stay without job. It's not the question of developers lacking in effort, it's the question of them not being given enough time and money to make a better game.

You are giving developers way too much credit. A lot of them don't give a shit either.

You'd become apathetic if you'd go into game development, as well. The salary is flimsy and the hours per week are insane - it's not a grateful job. Not unless you came into simply to pursue game development as your personal interest.

Which is why those are usually long-time developers who never had a chance to built themselves a cult following.

*eyetwitch* Don't remind me.

OT -- ICON. (I think I still have all my Animorphs books on my shelf -- yep, I do. Much love for Ax.)

Kingdom Hearts was pretty fun, but I try and repress those Disney computer games I played when I was a kid. Bad, buggy computer crashing games.

(Snagged the icon from [info]nyonyo @ LJ. She's got a lot of them. This one, though, is my handiwork.)

Agreed.

(I didn't even know that there were such things as Animorph icons. You learn something new every day, I suppose.

Verylovely Ax icon, by the way.)

Pfah. Kingdom Hearts totally belongs to Squeenix. The 'Disney element' is just an unfortunate side-effect. (Side-effect of what? I do not know.)

Maybe it's just residual warm fuzzies from the three glasses of egg nog I drank tonight, but nothing warms my heart more than seeing geeky fanboys accusing each other of being... geeks.

I don't think it's the egg nog, because you aren't the only one. They're cute, in a way.

Wow, this one's really tl;dr. Some members of GameFAQs should really spend less time on uninspired wank and more time on actual video games.

Also, the original poster's point about Square being able to come out of bankrupcy is kinda null, since Square went bankrupt, was bent over and purchased by Enix several years ago.

I probably shouldn't be as amused by your icon as I am... I blame Dmitri.

Now on to the subject at hand.
I didn't think the letter was actually THAT bad, but his attempts at defending himself do a brilliant job of making up for that.

At first I thought this...

We here at gamefaqs message boards like to make boys into men!!!!

...was a joke because everyone in the thread is acting like a bunch of 1st graders. But now I'm not so sure because this poster spends the rest of the thread whining about how the big mean company is taking advantage of him and that people are allowed their own opinions even if they're wrong.

You know, I don't see where all this bitching is coming from for this game. Yes, there is lag in it, but it doesn't ruin the entire game. I mean, come ON, I can play FFIV on long road trips now! And I can't wait till FFVI comes out too, oh, the wank possibilities for that... >.>

Word. I'm still on Troia, so I haven't even gotten to the new dungeons and stuff, and I'm still in total bliss over being able to take one of my favorite games ever on airplanes and stuff.
