Er ... well, for a race of people that only have sex - what was it? - every seven years for the purpose of procreation ... I'm betting that there probably wouldn't be any gay Vulcans.

Of course, it's been years since I've watched Star Trek, and then it was only the original. The hot catfight between Kirk and Spock may have clouded my memory of Vulcan mating habits.

Two things--

1. I have no idea what the basis behind the Iowa statement was. Not only is there no proof Iowa wouldn't exist but...uhm...I thought Kirk being from Iowa was really common Trek knowledge.

2. because Trek is all linked in one way or another. i'm involved in other Trek fandoms as a justification to get all worked up about TOS slash baffles me. Of course all Trek is linked, but I haven't really found any K/S slash invading a helpless Janeway/Chakotay fic or taking over for a Kira/Odo story or anything.

However, this wank (or, well, your post about it) did remind me to check out the release date for Picard and Crusher's Book of Love a Trek book, so thanks!!!

I didn't read it because, you know, Christmas Eve. And while I apparently have better things to do than to go read someone wanking, I don't have better things to do than to read about people mocking wanking. I'm sure that says something.

But anyway, on the surface level explained here, I can't say that I would disagree. Comments about book canon or what have you aside, logically speaking the ony reason to have sex is to reproduce. Gay sex sort of ruins that part. I don't really see your average, every day Vulcans going at it simply for the pleasure.

So yeah, it could very well be wanky and I don't doubt that it is. The foundation seems pretty sound though. And therefore totally worthy of ranting, given that Star Trek fanfiction is very serious business.
