Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
My friend, jadedprimate, doesn't have a JF account, so I'm posting this for him (with minor input and linking).

On the RA Salvatore boards, a member by the name of kierkanrufo posts a minor rant about inconsistencies in the recently released Drizzt comic adaptation. Some people disagree, and kierkanrufo, Don Quixote-style, starts flailing at the evil windmills.

The disagreements are voiced in rather disinterested one-liners (though Drizhith appears to have set him off), but kierkanrufo appears to be on a mission, and produces one wanky post after another. They almost look like the product of a random complaint generator, although complaint generators generally don't include erroneous grammar and spelling. Includes, but is not limited to, debating over semantics and complaints that other members, the mods in particular, do not apply the morals of Drizzt to the real world:

Apparently, concepts such as nobility, freedom, mental development, chivalry and true civility are “escapist” aspects for all of you who read fantasy literature as well as goblins and magic. It seems I’m the only who feels such codes should apply to reality, and real living people, because many of you are either lazy, paper-thin in your convictions, or simply false and incorrect. Maybe you do not even acknowledge such above-stated concepts in R.A.S. books? Maybe, for most other people, it’s merely an adrenaline boost, but I at least expected a bit more of a balance here than what I’ve seen. I foolishly expected more than normally found among the idiots of the planet, hoping that others here have been inspired to become better, well-rounded, open-minded people.

The whole thing seems like a very one-sided ping-pong match, even after Salvatore himself comes in and, after admitting that kierkanrufo's original post made some valid points, asks the good children to please behave.

Kierkanrufo promises to be good, but then spots another windmill in the form of Sir William, who is apparently having fun analyzing kierkanrufo's anger management problems, Internet Therapist style. And off we go again.

vionesspxmoone chimes in to say that she doesn't like kierkanrufo anymore, to which he replied:

Dee, darling, I have a couple little qualms with your statement. I like you, and enjoy conversing with you, a lot because we don’t really converse much into complex logic and massively-deep introspection, so I will be gentle in my examination, simply because we haven’t really delved into it and I’m not aware of how oppressive your views may be. Hopefully, you aren’t like a lot of these other presumptuous fascists who condemn me for mere post lengths and other minuscule matters purely to attempt insult, instead of giving evidential reason. (Bolding mine. Isn't there a jurisimprudence law about calling people fascists? Or does that apply to just Nazis?)

Sir William goes: I'm sorry Lae. I'm done now. I'm getting a little dizzy running through circles.

Which, of course, provokes kierkanrufo into another tl;dr post, where he reiterates that he's really not angry: The manner in which I preach is more akin to example two; while your baseless, vague jabbering is surely more like example three. Why? Well, I explain what I think is stupid, or senseless, or illogical, but I don’t tell anyone they have to do anything. You were trying to convince me to chill out, when the point I made was that I wasn’t “un-chilled”, speaking for myself from an obviously superiorly accurate perspective, making your marvelous advice void and useless, that is of course, unless you meant it to merely be a provocative, hideously attempted “insult”, or what you thought to be an awfully witty quip. (Is "superiorly"... even a word?)

And ending with: So, to everyone who absolutely cannot stand this incessancy; abandon all ideas of salvaging the Drizzt comic topic and forsake this thread. It is now a barren wasteland of daily battles, and if this is not your cup of tea, then it’d be wise to simply avoid it. That should pretty much take care of everyone who, understandably, is getting tired of this. I apologize for it's continuation, but just don’t read it.

God damn. Another pompous, condescending asshat accusing other people of being pompous and condescending? Was there a sale on them this month?

Most impressively, this guy got his wank on so fast that I don't think there was more than a round of actual debate before the arguments about procedure started. It's been over a page of chewy and delicious tl;dr, and no one's made anything even remotely like a comment about the books. Hell, Salvatore himself showed up and supported the wanker, and the wanker ignored him because he didn't say anything wankable. Way to show your respect for the books you love so much, manchild.

Kudos to R.A. Salvatore for his mature reply. It's a like a set of clean hands in a gathering of wankers.

I'm iffy on that one. It was a sane, courteous reply, but he accused the rest of the board of jumping on kierkanrufo. That's so far from anything that's actually happening in this wank that I'm wondering whether he bothered to read the thread.

Is it bad that when I read the comics, my thought was not "omg, they're ruining the books" but was instead, "ooo. pretty!"? I'm such a fangirl.

Man, I hate when people (usually furries) get all "eloquent" like this dickhead when they argue. It's the kind of "eloquence" that will get you a three on the SAT writing section, because true eloquence is brevity and grace. All this shit is is a sign of pompous jackassery, man.

Ironically, what I wrote for my SAT II Writing was some of the worst crud I've ever churned out -- it was wordy, it was terrible, etc.

I got a 5.5. Haha.

Not to defend the author - cos I know I sure as shit make those kinda typos frequently - but I've bought different editions of the same book and found different typos in them. It is just possible that the errors in your book are literally, typographical errors (in that the printer screwed up) rather than Salvatore mis-spelling/typing.

Course, that doesn't make his insistance that he doesn't make typoes any less silly...

A mouse who wonders quite what point this comment serves and puts it down entirely to her not being quite sober...

All I want for Wankmas is to live in a world where "I think you're wrong" = "fascist". Or, "I think you are a moron" = "fascist". Or really, anything except actual fascism = "fascist".

Lord, come up with a new insult.

Er...well, aside from the first issue that I saw being full of grape-flavored drow, I thought the comics did a good job of cutting out most of the useless bits in the books. Odd-colored inks aside, I'd have to say my main complaint was that Dinin and Rizzen weren't as hot at the books implied they were. *sulk* Other than that, they were pretty well done.

And Salvatore has crusted splooge under his nails from wanks past anyway.

My new year's resolution is to hunt down pompous asshats who quote the fuckin' dictionary at people.

pompous adj. 1) Characterized by excessive self-esteem or exaggerated dignity; pretentious. 2) Full of high-sounding phrases; bombastic. 3) Characterized by pomp or stately display; ceremonious.

Look, kierkanrufo, you're an example of all three! And no, on a message board, number three is not a good thing.
