The HP Voting Army strikes again.......
IMDB has a poll for worst and best movies of 2005. Mugglenet posts a call to arms for the Harry Potter fans to go out and vote for Goblet of Fire in the polls. And they come out in droves.....and some apparently without any common sense, seeing as somehow the movie ends up at one point at the top of the Best Documentary, Best Animated, and Best Foreign Language (Non-English)categories (not at the top of those anymore, but the fact that its still even listed in them.....).

The comments thread on the post at Mugglenet is a deluge of "OMG GOF BEST EVAR!!!" to how much the movie sucked and other films were much better. People openly admit that they voted for GOF in EVERY category, thinking its funny, and many call them on the lack of common sense. People debate the books vs. the movies, and which of the movies was actually better. Its an amusing read all around.

Bonus: Check out the backlash on the IMDB boards for the skewed voting....

ETA: Thanks to [info]sarahkjrsten for pointing out the hilarity going on over this over at Leaky.

ETA 2: For those unable to read the boards at IMDB, a sampling of the threads over there....

I voted Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for everything applicable! (How do you spell 'applicable'?!?)

Now this just tickles me.

"Okay, I'd like to start with YOU GUYS ARE STUPID. Since when was Harry Potter an Animated Documentary in a foriegn Language? I wish people would take these polls seriously, because the only thought running through my head is how embarrassed I am to be a Harry Potter fan. Maybe all my friends were right about it being for little kids."

lol

Oh man. That's excellent. I blame lack of sleep, but I totally thought Mugglenet was ordering people to go vote for it as The Worst of 2005, and I'd missed some canon rape wank. Which would've been so much awesomer.

But c'mon guys. It was decent, but it was no Serenity.

Eh, to be fair the amount of crying over "OMG the polls aren't HONEST now" amuses me more than anything.

Since when has voting for anything been fair? Or honest?

Reminds me of when Sluggy Freelance's fans got all into voting it into every category in the Squiddies, the Usenet-based comic awards. (OMG, this was about 8 years ago. Gah, my memory for trivia.) Pete Abrams, when he found out, graciously withdrew from everything, even the webcomic category -- but I doubt WB would be quite so, um, organized. Or even aware. If IMDB tosses out all of the GOF votes, it'll serve the Potterites right, though...

Another highlight of this poll is that when I read the results so far last night, one of the ten documentaries was Supersize Me. a movie that was actually from early 2004. Apparently a lot of the people voting haven't seen any documentaries since Supersize Me, which was a funny movie, but only because of how stupid the entire premise is.

My complaint about the legitimate voting so far (I'd say it's about 50-60% of the results T_T maybe less) is that Jarhead isn't on best anything, and as someone who really, really hates war movies and avoids them like the plague, I thought it was a really amazing and well-made movie. [/fanrant]

I also don't understand how Red Eye hasn't made any of the worst categories, unless it's just that no one else saw it, because it was awful in that hilarious "WHY IS THERE AN UNDERSEA ROCKET LAUNCHER?!" kind of way that spawned quite a few jokes among my friends.

...I also suspect that a lot of people don't understand what supporting actors and actresses are...

And lastly... Good Night, and Good Luck p0wns all, bitches. If George Clooney would like to make more black and white historical films, I will be all over it.

Ehh, I see plenty of stupidity, but not much wank. Mugglenet may be teeming with the dumb, but IMDB is uncharacteristically calm about it for now. The only wank is at TLC and it's a teeny one between jaci and Aldronnwhatshisface over his 'speshul writer skills'.

Off the IMDb boards, defending GoF as "Best Animated": Actually, it is animated in such ways. (Computer animation for speical effects.)And the animation was incredible. The special effects looked like they were real!

I know you mean animated like chicken little and wallace and gromit, but still, it's animated in one way or another.

That's like saying Daniel Radcliffe should be nominated for Best Actress because he has one X chromosome, so it's like he's a girl in one way or another. (They haven't nominated him for Best Actress, have they? I haven't missed something that hilarious?)

Also- WTF? Why isn't Syriana in the top 10 for Best Picture?? Dr. Bashir that movie was totally hot brilliant! Boo.

People going and finding more people to vote for a movie: fine.
People voting for said movie because they really think it should win: fine.
People putting said movie everywhere because it's funny and it doesn't matter anyway: completely stupid, lame and so laughable.

Why not head over and show your support by voting!
I'm really tempted to answer this with "because the stupid movie doesn't even make my list of the ten best movies of the year, let alone #1, idiots."

I have come to the conclusion that the HP fandom is one of the wankiest, if not THE wankiest, fandom ever.

They have surpassed every other fandom in their ranting, batshit insanity, and entitlement whore attitudes.

*Gives HP the "Wankiest Fandom" gold star and is glad she couldn't give a flying fuck about HP so is not a fan.*

One thing I've noticed about the more obsessive HP fans is that they think HP should win for awards for everything. I enjoy HP but I don't think it deserves best picture. The movies aren't anywhere near the level of LOTR. I love it when fans go overboard though, it's amusing to see that they put HP near the top of every category especially the ones it shouldn't be in.

After seeing Dan Radcliffe on the list for Best Actor I was surprised not to see Ian McDiarmid for Best Supporting Actor since that man stole the show in Episode III. Thankfully these people won't be doing the voting come Oscar time. I could just imagine how much more screwed up the Oscars would be then.
