Gaia Online, the online playing game/forum, fielded its very first trial of an Non-Playing Character with the users as jurors. The storyline, as it stands, has the oldest NPC in Gaia, Ian (the guy who mans the first shop in Barton Town), accused of a crime of arson so now I present the one steaming pile of wank that is "The Trial of Ian" Forum.

Some sample wanky threads:

Whenever called for jackass-sery or logic, many posters would accuse the other party of Being Too Serious. Is there an Internet law that says that accusations of Being Too Serious would immediately lose the argument? If not, there should be.

EDIT: for grammar booboos.

Then what would we say to rabid disappointed shippers who go on and on &c.? Because everything goes back to HP.

I mean people involved in the forum/community in which the topic someone is Being Too Serious. Critics on the outside looking in are suppose to be non-biased judge of character, after all. -blinks innocently-

I've been waiting for this to show up. Gaians manage to be wanky enough normally, but give them a cause and you have an instant lube shortage.

It was a double dose of wank as well, since the new donation items caused a bit of a stir.

The tampon umbrella? I didn't notice particular wankery, but I only hang out in the Writer's Forum, where wank basically involves flame-wars over sucky poetry between 'regs' and 'n00bs.'

But I stay away from those, since I don't belong to either catagory.

Oh, wow. This sort of thing makes me SO HAPPY that I got out of Gaia awhile ago...

It sort of reminds me of the whole Gambino/Von Helson thing. You know when people were throwing signs at each other and such? I think that was my last big thing at Gaia.

What did I ever SEE in it?

I wasn't there for that, but right now, I stay far, far away from the trial forums. I stick to Extended Discussion, but even that isn't much better.

I'd like to say I'm suprised at this but I'm not. I guess there's just something about being in charge of a tiny pixelated paper doll that makes people go wank-crazy.

And this is why I don't venture out of my subforum of sanity. Because the Gaian masses, by and large? Stupid, yo.

Though... heh, I guess that implies to everything. Lowest common demonimator, and all that.

But then again, what is a Gaia event without wank?

I'm still hitting Gaia Online for a few minutes every couple days to see how this all turns out, but I'm highly unimpressed with the stupidity of this "event" and even I'm appalled by the blatant idiocy of the general masses--and I was so addicted to Gaia till very recently that I was spending all of my online time there, which was a considerable amount.

Gaia Online generates enough wank for ten fandom_wank lifetimes...I'm amazed anything from there shows up here at all, given how little sense everything there makes.

It's amazing how much of Gaia is focused on hype. It's almost like someone is always trying to get you to buy breedables or art or some crap.

Oh, and going on innocent 'til proven guilty, the prosecution didn't meat the burden of proof. Ian was voted innocent, though I think a guilty storyline would've been better.
