I really have high hopes here.

At [info]vintage_sex [info]myrkuria posts an open invitation to join her new intellectual elite lj community. Their interests?

This community is for those of us who feel unable to relate to the commoners. It is for those of us who feel frustrated and surrounded by ignorance and idiocy. We also hope to seperate those who are truly intellectually elite, and those who are simply self-delusional.

We welcome posting of ideas, essays, relevant links, dialogue, etc.

"It may require a degree of stupidity or mental deficiency to willfully conduct oneself in accord with the demands of a sickly society, culture, or civilization." -Eyenot

"There can be no gods, for if there were, how could I bear not to be one?" -Nietzsche

Healthy flaming welcomed, put the rabble in their place!

Maintained by myrkuria and solitethos.

Cause you know... quoting Nietzsche always means you're smart n' shit.

They're being mocked. Please, won't you join us mock the wanky little smartypoos? Besides, f_w is already here for those who feel frustrated and surrounded by ignorance. Hee!

Wow. I almost have to admire their frankness in admitting they're arrogant as all hell.

Too bad they seem so stuffy and joyless about it. Arrogance is always much more fun with a little sneery posturing; without it it's just highfalutin blahblahblah.

You know... I do feel surrounded by ignorance and idiocy, but I'm too arrogant about it to join such a pathetic little group. [Sneers and postures] Arrogance is fun, dammit. :p

That's the spirit!

I don't know whether he got it from elsewhere or made it up, but a friend of mine always responds to charges that he's arrogant with, "I can't be arrogant. That would mean that I have peers."

'Sides, ivory towers are no fun. You have to get down into the trenches and spread the gospel of your own self-aggrandizement if you want to bring the real entertainment.

::Sneers and postures::

In the words of the great Norse poet:
Ulfr ok Valr am bjarg.
Ulfr ok Valr am Muspell
Ulfr ok Valr am Valr.

Ek Han resti runi.

Cause you know... quoting Nietzsche always means you're smart n' shit.

How about quoting Socrates?

"I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance."

Or maybe Shakespeare?

"The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool."

Can I be a psuedointellectual elitist snootynose now? :-D

How about quoting Socrates?

No, if you really want to establish your arrogant credentials, you have to correct people who say they're quoting Socrates:

'Don't you mean Plato?' :p

Not only are they an arrogant snotty bunch, they are not even pseudo-intellectual enough. To be truly pseudo-intellwhatever you have to talk about obscure 18th century poetry and Medieval philosophers that nobody has heard of. That's how you show your intellectual superiority and difference from the dirty stinkin' masses, by showing off arguing on the delicate differences between various extremely rare and needless esoteric trivia, not talking about Camus that is standard high-school reading material, that even the commoners they seem to despise so much are aware of.

Amateurs!

Well, personally I don't believe you can understand Camus properly unless you read it in the original French. It loses a certain je ne sais quoi if read in translation.

And an intelliwanker is someone whose wank metas itself. Or somesuch.

o.o; Indeedy. I thought, that out of the two, Sartre was the more existentialist, while Camus eventually gravitated away from the existentialist school of thought. I never read Camus' novels myself (Sartre was my favorite of the two ^^;), so I can't say much more than that generic tidbit up there.

... d00d, I suddenly want Camus x Sartre slash. har har har

Hm, I thought he was into it at first during his early years, and then gravitated away cause he found he didn't appreciate murder of any sort (including intellectual o.o).

::noses around for info::

Ah, I think I'm mistaken. Camus had these two schools of thought--I took his 'period of revolt' to be purely anti-Existentialist in thought, while the 'absurdist' period to be somewhat Existentialist in meaning, but it actually wasn't.

... at least, that's from what I can understand. Camus seems wishy-washy to me. ::laugh::

Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius
--Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

I hope they realize that in trying to distance themselves from the 'commoners' they're making more of a statement of their own snotty attitudes than of the stupidity of everyone else. If you're tired of being around idiots...tough. You'll be around idiots all your life (and more than usual, if you hang out with all the people on their little clique).
I assume those hefty bulges in their little intellectual pants are their quotes dictionaries. Not to mention their slightly-less-than insubstantial egos. Jesus H. Christ, but some people are pretentious.

I mean, what - if you appreciate antique porn, you're somehow an elite?
