More WoW 'Gay Friendly' Guild Wank
Grabbed from a mousie on [info]wank_report. Not too long ago, a post about the wankery revolving around the creation of a gay friendly guild in the online game World of Warcraft was posted here. Now, the plot thickens as Lambda Legal, the legal group dedicated to the protection of gay and lesbian civil rights, has thrown their hat into the ring:

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/breaking/wow-blizzard-gets-gay-rights-warning-153075.php

"On Friday we broke the news that Lambda Legal was getting involved in the whole gay rights in World of Warcraft issue. Today we learned that the legal firm has sent Blizzard an official letter questioning their policies. In the letter to Blizzard president Mike Morhaime and Vivendi In-House Counsel, Lambda Legal spells out the foundation for possible litigation in the issue. The attorneys explain how an online world can be considered a place of business and how current anti-discrimination laws would apply."

Most of the wankery exists in the comments to this post. People on both sides are up in arms. One faction wants Lamda Legal to mind its own business and stop trying to apply real world law to the virtual realm, while others argue in favor of the legal action.

Choice commentary includes remarks such as:

"why are they just gay friendly? are they not black friendly? what about penguin friendly? how about midget friendly? if theyre all those things, why dont they advertise that?"- tony528 (sic)

Obviously, Lamda Legal doesn't care about black people. (Sorry, I had to say it.)

And, of course, there is the obligatory mention of Nambla in the comments. A nice little collection of splooge in this one.

It's depressing that they can't even come up with new homophobic wank...it's just the same thing over and over again in different contexts.

"Just because I want all the fags to shut up about it doesn't mean I'm homophobic!"

"This isn't a place where people should be discussing sexual orientation; speaking about one's heterosexual partner and random instances of gay-baiting don't count."

"blah blah pedophilia blah blah bestiality blah blah."

Have I missed any?

I like the Lambda letter. Okay, Neil Bauman's approach to internet lawyering is more entertaining, but I guess being taken serious has its plus sides too :)

I don't have the nerves to read the player reactions, though. I tried, but it's just an overdose of asshattery and ignorance. Fucking gamers need to grow a brain.

That is, are "spic," "kike," "breeder," "gimp" and, um, "toaster-face" used as much as "fag" is?

Toaster-face is totally my new word for the week. And if I played WoW (or any other MMO game), I would start a toaster-friendly guild.

Someone think of the toasters! They think of you...crispy.

And isn't Blizzard asking Gay/Lesbian folk to not advertise their sexuality a lot like asking Rosa Parks to move to the back of the bus? Lots of people have been saying that it's Blizzard's game so they have every right to put a stop to this, but would you say the same thing about Montgomery's transit system? They owned the buses didn't they? Did that make it OK for them to tell black people they were second class citizens?

Do these fanboys even listen to themselves? Why do they keep whining about ports? And Microsoft will never release Halo on any home console other than the ones they own. And it's going to be hard to port from PS3 to 360, because the coding is completely different.

The last comment was on the 22nd, and the amount of pseudo intellectual posturing in there is amazing.

Personally, I'm just waiting 'til E3.

I refuse to read the wank, mostly because it's the same BS every time. I see it like this: Gay people just wanna find other gay people so we have something in common, a basis on which we can build friendship and cameraderie. (Oh my God, I just butchered that word and I am so sorry...)

But yes. You don't have to advertise a straight friendly guild because that's automatically assumed. This was just going to be a guild where ANYONE could join but she was just putting out there that it was going to be a guild that loves teh gays.

People who automatically assume that we just put it out there so we can meet other gays and have teh buttsehcks (or teh lezbain sex, as it were) should die. kthx.
