OMG racistic and pre-fandom!
So I thought I'd take a break from drooling over Russian figure skaters and bring up more race wank, this time from
ohnotheydidnt, since we all know its members are very intelligent and not trolls.
ellinoriane posts about an upcoming show on FX, "Black. White." It was apparently previewed on "Oprah" today. The premise is a black family and a white family get made up to physically portray the opposite race, and then experience life as that race. I think it's an interesting idea; it can illustrate things that whites cannot necessarily know, like automatic profiling, and things that blacks cannot necessarily know, which is that white people are bitches to everyone.
ONTD members of course sound off on the propriety of the show.
THRILL! As
__electrixx explains no one can ever truly know the pain of being a minority unless one has been born into GENERATIONS OF OPPRESSION, and is echoed here.
CHILL! As various members cannot figure out which family was originally what colour, thus allowing for
day_afterday to completely snow members into thinking she's serious.
And otherwise wait for the obligatory "Black people are racist too!" "Bitch, shut the fuck up, your grandparents enslaved mine by being white!" comments.
The moral of this story, children? It's not a good idea to ever try to understand where the other person's coming from, because you just can't know, okay? It's better to be ignorant, okay?? Because acquiring the characteristics of a black person to firsthand see how they are treated = blackface, but apparently the same cannot be said for the reverse. Also, the really black family is a shame to their race. A shame.
ETA: White posters take back every nasty thing ever said about black posters, and a link is posted that proves reverse racism doesn't exist because white people laugh at "cracker" or "honky". The essay had me firing off a comment before I managed to restrain myself and hold back on pressing that post button. No i_wank here, folks.
