The Doctor Who Will Kill Sevmione?
(Found this one on [info]wank_report)

The last time we took up Snape shipping wank, we shut down the 'Detention' Snarry archive. Today's target is Ashwinder, a Snape/Hermione fic archive that some anonymice are really peeved about.

Here's your briefing. [info]southernwitch99 created an anonymous whinging community called [info]secret_whinges in which anonymice come and complain about things. The post here has launched an anonymice brawl.

An anonymouse complains about Ashwinder. "I know this is going to make me HUGELY unpopular in the fandom, as this site is massively popular, but I've had enough," s/he begins, and continues that she wasn't accepted at Ashwinder. Other mice chime in with complaints, and some with defences and they start getting confused who is whom, since no one signs their posts at all. Includes this post

"unfortunately the admin team's reason for rejection is based on their personal preference or opinion when it comes to the English language rather than following the rules - then again they make up their own rules

instead the lefthand does not know what the righthand is doing and each is forming their own opinion on corrections needed"

Another anonymouse starts new thread in protest.

"Southern,
Your directions say, "There will be no personal attacks allowed here." But you are encouraging direct attacks on the people at a targeted archive, naming it by name. Good grief."

And apparently someone alleged that an archive called Illusions ran Fandom Wank? But the maintainer deleted the original post so all we have are the reactions here.

Got that all down? Then let's GO GO GO GO!

ETA: A mouse has shown up to tell us why Ashwinder sucks. Here.

Ashwinder. Ick. Not so much for the material, but for my friend's personal experience with the site.
*Settles down with a cup of tea to pass on the story* (Please keep in mind that a few details like the number of chapters are fuzzy since this happened during the summer and I can't remember breakfast.)

Okay, so my friend is a pretty well-known fanfic author in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom, and she wanted to start writing in the HP fandom, specifically Hermione/Snape. So, she works on a few fics and posts them to AFF.net (which...one fic spawned some wank of its own that wasn't showcased here), then discovers Ashwinder! There is much rejoicing in the Land O' [name deleted]! So, cool, she gets accepted, or however that works. All goes well with the first two chapters, but by the third chapter, it all goes awry and Land O' [name deleted] is rained on by iffy, wishy-washy mods.

The thing to keep in mind is that when they reject a chapter, they tell you where you made errors. The first time the chapter's rejected, [name deleted] is...slightly put-out since neither of the other chapters were rejected. The second time, she (again) sends the chapter to three betas, makes the changes and re-submits it. Again, rejected. But this time, [name deleted] is all confused and sort of pissed off and E-Mails the owner of the site to ask what's going on since she didn't have this much trouble with the other chapters. The owner essentially informs her that all of the mods are different and judge the content of the story differently, so to just try again with the help of an assigned beta who "works" for the site. [name deleted] is a very "roll with the punches" kind of girl. She doesn't care about drama, and she deals with things peacefully, so she talks to the beta and agrees. The girl looks over the chapter and finds a couple of things to change (one of which wasn't even wrong, but she wanted her to change "wandered the halls" to "wondered", which should have clued us all in that this girl wasn't kosher). With these changes in place, [name deleted] expects things to roll smoothly since this girl is a site appointed beta who *had* to have been tested out before she was allowed to join the roster.

Surprise to stomp all over all other surprises and spit on them, the chapter gets rejected again. [name deleted] is officially as pissed as the rest of us who have been following this are. (And, dammit, considering that we re-beta'd the chapter every time it was rejected, we had the right to be peeved. :p) This cycle repeats itself until Reject Six/Seven. Upon receiving this one, [name deleted] talks to Appointed Beta, and is told by AB that she just can't beta for her. Something that wasn't mentioned to me until this point was the AB was in line to take over (as Head Mod or some bullshit) another site. I'll let that sink in for a moment. Taking over a site. Incapable of betaing for someone who, by this point, has very few grammatical errors. *Clears throat* Right, then.

After this, [name deleted] has had enough with this site. It's badly run, the mods don't agree on what should be approved, the betas suck ass. She E-Mails the mod and lets her know that she won't be posting on the site any longer. The mod expresses regret, but does nothing about the problems.

And thus ends the only story I have about anything in the HP fandom.

- Stocie

Ow. That hurt my brain.

that all of the mods are different and judge the content of the story differently, so to just try again

That's just monumentally dumb. Not only do you anger authors, you a lot of create extra work for yourself.

Nothing like second hand whinge.

Check your facts; they are inaccurate. We do not have accredited site beta readers. We are not there to beta read the work submitted, generally, like most moderated archives, we expect the writer to do that first.

Ashwinder (and Sycophant Hex of which Ashwinder is a part) is run on very similar standards to Fiction Alley, with most submissions moderated for grammar, and other stuff. It's all on the Submission rules, which should be read before submitting, but often aren't, leading to this sort of whinge and kerfuffle.

Now, back the scheduled wank. Archive wank. Where would we be without it?

Just curious - do you masturbate to Alan Rickman circa "Die Hard" when you and your ilk write stupid and OOC crap about Snape saying to Hermione, "Oh, Salazar, yes, my love, suck my balls!"

Well, maybe she just thought she was well-known fic author in the Btvs fandom? I mean, if her story gets rejected that many times, she must've just thought it, surely.

My point is, though, it was stupid to have done all that work for an archive. If my story was rejected by an archive, I would maybe re-beta it and resubmit it another time, and if they still didn't want it, then, to hell with them. Rebeta'ing it that much times and then complaining about it is just completely dumb.

I know exactly which author this is, I've seen the stuff she's posted elsewhere, and it's NOT GOOD AT ALL. Even the beta'd stuff. It's not just technical - the stories are bad, to a degree that a beta shouldn't feel obligated to fix. I don't blame any archive for not taking them.

Thanks for using so many identifying details, though. It didn't take long for me to figure it out. A+ for you.

And I can't believe said shitty author has the nerve (or her illiterate friends) to be mad at the beta who gave her all to correct that level of mistakes. It was a Herculean undertaking... upwards of fifteen mistakes per paragraph, lazy author too busy to bother even putting periods on the ends of sentences.

If I remember correctly, there was a lot of pot-smoking going on at Hogwarts, as evidenced by all the 'stoned' staircases people kept walking upon.

The beta tried, really, really tried hard, but between the obscenely juvenile level of writing, out of character characters, and a level of mistakes that simply boggles the mind, and the fact that the author couldn’t be bothered to even do a cursory proofread and put periods on the ends of the damned sentences, she gave up.

She didn't take the hint. And now we have this pointless story.
