I'm official. No, you aren't! Yes, I am!
Collected from [info]wank_report

In the ever turbulent world of Sentinel fandom, the recent craziness started when an anonymous group of fans announced they would be creating a Garett Maggart Online community and web site.

Quotes:

"This is an official press release to announce the upcoming debut of the Official Garett Maggart Online presence. Garett has chosen a team to oversee and maintain his online presence and to that end, the Official site is being completely rebuilt and will be online soon.

Updates will be posted here and to other appropriate groups and lists. Garett's new official site will be international in flavor and dutifully maintained with Garett's direct input."

Fans of GM and The Sentinel go apeshit. Why? Because under this viel of anonimity, this "team" could be anyone. (Read people we don't know or like.)

Enter, Shar [info]blairangel, the person who already owns www. garettmaggart.net. She rips these anonymous fans a new one. After all, she is Garett's official web site, not these wannabees. Wank is here and here.

Fandom explodes.

Accusations fly and fans begin speculating that maybe Deb Warner is involved in this new online venture. All hell breaks loose, which causes the GMO (Garett Maggart Online) "team" to state no, they aren't Deb Warner of the Demon Under Glass wank. (The Deb Warner wank is separate, too long to go into here).

Finally, members of the "team" reveal themselves: Alyjude, SuziQ, Marilyn, Arianna and Sylvette.

Alyjude posts
here
explaining why fans thought Shar and her GM web site was dead in the water.

Plus how the GMO got approval from Garett's management for this new site.

Alyjude also points out to Shar her thoughts on some things.

"to be, Shar? And just what axe do we have to grind? We're public now, Shar -- very public, and we are NOT in competition with you. Yes, the original announcement could have been worded differently, but the fact remains, you refused to answer the many inquiries and you did let the domain expire, which, following a year of nothing -- gave root to the idea that you'd moved on."

Arianna, another GMO team member adds her very rational thoughts. It seems she was on a cruise when the wank happened and was in the dark until she got some ship-to-shore calls about it.

But, Shar isn't finished and she replies back that she is the official site and has created a new El-jay for online announcements.

Highlights include:

"I do know the people behind this suddenly surfaced "team" and the story behind it. I know names and I know who is directly and indirectly involved. I have names, e-mails and lots of sordid details of who did what, who egged who on and so forth. Hines & Hunt is disgusted by this fiasco as am I. It was mishandled and reeked of cloak and dagger secrecy littered with demands, threats and rudeness. Not the way I've ever done business nor do I ever intended to embrace these tactics when working for Garett or conducting business regarding his site or my own personal life."

So which one is the real official site? I have no fucking clue. You decide.

*brain explodes from wank*

Oh hell no!
How many fans remember the huge fight that erupted when the Virtual seasons (gen and slash) started?

If I'm not mistaken there was three (gen) virtual seasons and two slash seasons fighting it out.

The ego clashes were interesting to say the least.

And here I thought Sentinel fandom was all about coming up with new and exciting slash pairings involving Richard Burgi.

Well, the archives are mostly new and exciting ways to get Blair and Jim together, as far as I can see.

Have to say, in reading all this stuff, that Garett Maggart's management comes off looking even less competent than James Marsters', which has to be a major accomplishment on the total fuck-up side of things.

And it's wonderful, because somewhere in comments Shar is also accused of being in cahoots with Deb Warner.

I suspect that's because she's the technical contact listed on Deb Warner's website. Which doesn't mean they're in cahoots, but they certainly have at least a professional relationship.

Yeah: leaving a site with no updates at all for a year and a half, and letting the domain name expire just reeks of fannish commitment.

I'm very new to this fandom, and have been going through the usual orientation drill, checking out imdb and google and seeing what the actors have been up to in the past six years. Garett Maggart's lack of career contrasts weirdly with the degree of fannish enthusiasm for his performance in the show, and his recent con interactions. It's especially strange given his industry connections: his father is Brandon Maggart, one of those "who is that guy?" types with an imdb page to rival Burgi's, and his half-sister is Fiona Apple. Nepotism alone would indicate more work than is showing.

Just commenting to say that this wank is bringing back an awful lot of memories for me. TS used to be aired after Star Trek, and my family would watch it sometimes. My dad watched it for stuff blowing up, while my mom and I watched it for the eye candy.

Have never watched the show, thus am only interested in this from a wank perspect, but can't fandom_wank use its super 'shutting down of archives power' to get both of these sites pulled of the web?

That would be impressive.
