OBEY THE RULES, BEYOTCH!
Scans_Daily is a community for comics fans, especially unrepentant slashers and people who find them amusing. Like me.

So the other day, raefire makes a post containing some newspaper strips and a single page from Disney's Kim Possible comic, thus following the community rules of having at least one comic book page in the post.

But since there's news paper strips, badficwriter drops trou and proceeds with the spooging. Small, but you can already smell the friction burn.

[sits on hands to prevent from wanking] I will be good, I will be good.

That said, this makes me laugh: The community voted...as I recall we decided that only comic books, manga, and webcomics were legal--though we didn't mind comic strips (like the many parodies) that mentioned that material.

So badficwriter speaks for everyone in s_d now? Everyone? Since when was she crowned Queen of the comm? And why wasn't I informed of this? I wanna start using the royal "We" when I talk about the internet too.

I missed this 'vote'.

Maybe it happened during one of the 'are webcomics *real* comics' arguments but I know I've seen plenty of newspaper comics posted before and no one had a problem with it.

Maybe. I was looking at porn then, so I missed the whole thing. Damn.

You know, 99% of scans_daily wank would have been averted if they'd just named it "gay_superheroes_daily" in the first place.

Naw, it'd just be shafted somewhere else where it wouldn't get in our way of our pursuits for gay superheroes. [/royal "our"]

There'd be debate over whether that included femmeslash.

But then what if it's just gay supporting cast? Does Kyle Rayner's gay assistant count? What if it's a post about him lusting after Kyle?

According to Article VII, section 34(j) of the community userinfo, which was upheld in a 39-7 vote, that would be acceptible.

Isn't it cute when regular users try to put on big pants and pretend they're mods? Oh wait I didn't mean "cute" I meant annonying and obnoxious.

Man, Ellis should NEVER have gotten an lj. If I see another fanboy orgasming lj user=warren_ellis like he's someone on your flist I'll cry.

*Cringing*

I backed the hell out of this one after my first comment. Things suddenly got very wanky, very quickly, over something very tiny.

I really wanted to join the wnak on this one, but it was frozen before I got there. Vent here instead ^_^

That's a hell of a lot of fuss being made about scrolling past stuff. I scroll past 70% of s_d stuff. Not at all difficult! Especially when the general consensus came down to "don't need an lj-cut for thumbnails".

And I swear no one's ever kicked up a fuss about newspaper strips while I've been there, at least. What about all that Garfield? Does it not count if it's been collected into a volume? Webcomics, I can understand (and I do find irritating, if there's not been a real comic panel added too), especially if it's someone pimping there own, but I can't see any difference between comic strips and comics.

I so want to dig up from old James Bond or strips now. Oh, newspaper strips. But oh, collected into volumes, and with onrunning plots. How do we know if it's wanky or not? Well, I suppose badficwriter will enlighten us.

Granted, the post was kind of off-topic in the sense that the main thrust of the community is comic books (Plus, they were kind of blah newspaper comics. I mean, what was so special, aside from proof the OP can read a newspaper?) but I think the main issue was that it was more than a screenful that was left uncut.

I suspect the boondocks posts did not rankle because (a) they were lj-cut, (b) they were at least vaguely on topic to the slash portion of the community mandate. I think the garfield comics had also been cut.

I also suspect that old James Bond strips would be fine in that (a) they're old, and thus rare and interesting and (b) it was an adventure strip, which fits better into the main thrust (heh, I said thrust) of the community.

Of course, I read S_D by setting the rss feed into a group bookmark in Firefox and opening each post in a tab. Then I just close the ones that don't interest me. So I never have to deal with the cut v. scroll issue anyway.

You can't delete anon posts. Delete your logged-in post if you don't want to repeat yourself.

Good grief. He/She/It showed up in one of my posts on scans_daily a while back, complaining about the exact same thing- except I had scads and scads of scans, not just a single strip to validate the post. I ignored it, but did get defended in a small sort of way, which would suggest that NO, NOT EVERYONE AGREED, DUMBASS.
