Harmony Is the Word: The DaRowling Code
Finished HBP. I Need Some Serious Love. . ., Just can't believe JK., a thread on Portkey, started by one Veronica.
" Hi guys. I'm a newbie and I'm pissed, depressed, embarrassed, disgusted, betrayed, angry, dumbfounded, and every other negative emotion that exists. I JUST finished reading HBP last night (I'd been punished for the last year and got my priveledges back a week ago--don't ask for the reason) and I can't even BELIEVE this is real. I actually had to CHECK the cover and publishers and author to make sure I had the right thing in my hands. I've never been so let down. I was more depressed than when my dog I'd had since I was born died."
This mid-February post is Veronica's first and last post ever on Portkey. She couldn't be more obviously a troll if she was carrying a club and hanging out under a bridge. I can't say she has too much time on her hands, as this seems to be the least-amount-of-input-for-maximum-reaction style of trolling.
I don't understand why no one in this thread calls troll. Perhaps they're used to people saying things like this?
Veronica: JK hurt me personally. She did too do it on purpose. I don't like her anymore. Anyway, they don't. Instead, they all rush in to console Veronica and assure her H/Hr is going to happen anyway.
Salomon2: Have you ever heard of the book Emma?
In it characters' opinions are thrown at you, interpretation running amok, and in the end, it's all wrong. The obvious is wrong, and the hidden behind the scenes is what's actually happening. Why do I mention this? JKR does, and she says it's her favorite book with her favorite twist, where two characters who previously had platonic feelings find out they actually have deeper feelings for one another. In otherwords your subtle background romance.
*snip*
So don't worry, don't fret, H/Hr still has hope, after all where would the world be without hope.
Let me put it to you this way.
If you're an author which would rather be known for:
What's expected, your work dies out and is forgotten quickly.
What's unexpected, your work dies out, but not so quickly, and people cherish it and appreciate it more for your clever writing in fooling them.
R/Hr and H/G is obvious, JKR makes what's the obvious to be untrue, that's why I don't trust it.
Very well. It's just usual Harmonian 'literary criticism' running amok. No conspiracy theories. Yet.
snoopy_pie: IYou are right she did use the hippogriff because of H/Hr shippers but I don't think she meant it in a bad way now. I think she put that in to give us another clue. Harry and Ginny's "Romance" was a distraction from the real romance going on.
Portkey's a support group for those who feel tempted to leave the ship. Libra has a testimonial to that effect.
Libra: Right now I can't even think of re-reading HBP.....but that's why we have Portkey read the forums. People out here don't just write stuff for the heck of writing....they do a lot of research, they've read all the books again and again, they've dug up clues.....and finally come to the conclusion that H/Hr will happen.
So....have hope.....I just know in my heart that it will be H/Hr in the end
And in this moment of doubt, the seeds of a new conspiracy theory are sown.
blake_burna : One of the names of our ship is Harmony. We call it that, because with a H/hr pairing, we believe all will be perfect. and I believe that the H/hr is not an impossible ship. It is instead hidden. And that eveything else is obvious, but will ultimately be proven WRONG.
In my signature, I have a quote by Heraclitus, a greek philosopher. Annearchy also has it in hers. It was written in the 6th Century BC. It says, and I quote: "the Hidden HARMONY is better than the OBVIOUS."
need I say more? If that was the truth then, then today its just as good, if not better.
Keep the faith.
And now, the discovery of discoveries. The DaRowling Code.
sweethermione21: And you know what?? Even JKR in her infamous Interview of DOOM, says :
[QUOTE
ES: Why is Slytherin house still –
JKR: Still allowed!
[All laugh]
ES: Yes! I mean, it's such a stigma.
JKR: But they're not all bad. They literally are not all bad. [Pause.] Well, the deeper answer, the non-flippant answer, would be that you have to embrace all of a person, you have to take them with their flaws, and everyone's got them. It’s the same way with the student body. If only they could achieve perfect unity, you would have an absolute unstoppable force, and I suppose it's that craving for unity and wholeness that means that they keep that quarter of the school that maybe does not encapsulate the most generous and noble qualities, in the hope, in the very Dumbledore-esque hope that they will achieve union, and they will achieve harmony. Harmony is the word. ]
She said it : HARMONY IS THE WORD !!!!
It was perhaps a little clue to all of us H/HR shippers ?
The legendary Annearchy is beside herself with joy.
Annearchy: hehehe, well, considering that JKR told Em and Melissa, "Delusional is YOUR word, not mine," maybe "Harmony is the word" really is a clue. Imagine what Emerson and Melissa would do if that's really true??
Ceremonially cut their throats, I imagine.
Harryandhermionesdaughter: This is what supporting Harry and Hermione's about! We can't let the Herons take over! We're stronger than that! We can take whatevers thrown at us...and yea I know it hurts. its like your best friend just shot your dog( bad analogy) in front of you on your birthday! but we can make it through just dont jump ship!
But lo, disharmony approaches.
Heebie Jeebies: Just out of respect for Jo, I wonder how many H/Hr fans have actually endorsed H/G and R/Hr after the ships have become canon? I knew that there would be a period of anger and dismay after reading HBP. Even Jo knew. That's understandable. But it has been several months after the book debut and IOD and I am honestly curious about the number of H/Hr shippers who have buried the hatchet. Ok, even I know that's the equivalent of painting oneself down in honey and walking into the grizzly bear cage. The posters give Heebie Jeebies what-for, some of them quite sensibly, but not the ones quoted here.
Lissy: Since The Interview, my "love" for G/H has hit new "highs," and I didn't despise OBHWF before The Interview, but now I have NO reason not to. (Thank certain shippers.) I would NEVER endorse G/H, ever. It makes me ---. Jo should have bothered to sell it to Me as the consumer, not inform me as an afterthought after the fact. Unless you live in a Totalitarian Country, the people above you cannot tell you how to think. Since I KNOW where the hatchet got buried before HBP even came out with regards to G/H, nope -- not ever. I want it to catch the last bullet in the last war.
Right. JKR is the lovechild of Stalin and Hitler. And Adam Smith ships Harmony. I'd forgotten that.
Scarlett1972: Frankly, I lost respect for Rowling(whatever little I had other than admiring her creativity since I don't know her personally) for the IoD because she really came off as arrogant and quite snide to a "valued" portion of her fanbase. I realize that how the interview came off may not be what she intended, yet she's a grown woman not all that much older than myself(ten or so years) and she allowed two fanchildren drag her down to their immature, unprofessional level. Where was the respect for the readers who's points of view at the very least helped to fuel interest in her story in the fandom that writes her paycheck? The debates may have been great fun for her and for us, but at it's heart were people who were reading and talking about her book, generating interest between publications. That should have merited a little more consideration than was given. Rowling isn't the only creator of a series that has fans who have different opinions or feelings for the characters outside of her own opinion. Many fans hated Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars Episode 1, but you didn't see or hear about George Lucas condescend to those fans by telling them to rewatch the movie. He simply accepted that not everyone liked his creation as much as he did and moved on with the storytelling. Rowling had enough education and perceived class to have done the same thing, but chose not to follow that path. That's what ticked me off the most in the end because it could have been handled so much better with the same effort it took to as mean and immature as it ended up appearing for all to see and cringe from embarassment for the fandom on the whole.
True believers disagree with this low opinion of JKR, though.
Salamon2: I don't think I've demonstrated disrespect for JKR. In fact I'm holding her to the high opinion that she's cleverly decieving many many people
Obligatory Emerson reference coming up. Nissi: respect for rowling? *laughs* that's a new one.
and is disrespectful to disagree with the author because.....? i had no idea that just because the author thinks a certain way everyone had to also. but to answer your question, the day that i endorsed h/g will be the day that emerson admits what a complete as$ he is. or the day hell freezes over. take your pick.
But it turns out she is a true believer after all.
it's funny, we see all these chocos and herons praise rowling and her writing abilities more so after hbp. let’s see if they'll be singing a different tune once book 7 is published and it turns out to be hhr.
Next: the obligatory reference to current American politics.
Salamon2: I think this goes back to the question of blind patriotism.
Do you support the President in everything he does without question, or do you question about what he does whether it is right or easy (I'm getting rid of the word wrong from my dictionary).
Many patriots will tell you, that you should ALWAYS support your president and country no matter what. What they say is for the good of the country, and that you're unpatriotic if you don't. And heaven help us if you're labeled unpatriotic, you'll be jeered, cast off, ignored, ostricized!
However many others will point out that many nations were founded based on the principle of QUESTIONING AUTHORITY.
It seems very synonmous to this situation. However we have to remember that this series is not a democracy, unfortunately. JKR rules her series like any other aurocratic ruler did. Her word is god. However, at the same time there still remains a power left in the hands of us, the consumers. We have a choice of whether or not we will actually read the books or not. JKR can write and say all she wants, but if she lost her fan base, she'd be nothing and nobody.
So here's the point of what I have to say, it's only because we care that her word becomes law. It's when we don't care that her laws mean nothing.
Time to talk about lust. This thread could be the encyclopaedia of Harmonian talking points.
snoopy_pie: According to HBP (if it is right which I don't think it is) Love is based on physical attraction and lust nothing substantial or lasting as in the case with H/G.
Or according to HBP love is ignoring your own morals and values to become something you are not for a relationship to work as in R/Hr. I don't really think JK would have R/Hr work because it NEVER works. Ron does to much to really hurt Hermione without so much as an apology for it to work. I just can't see it being something JK would have girls look to as an example of "real" love. Real love is so much deeper than that. This next one is actually new. HBP is like a slasher flick (And no, not the Brokeback Mountain type of slasher flick.)
Lissy: I was reading on another board, and someone brought up that Harry nearly KILLS another student, and after "warm and compassionate" Ginny tells him that it is Okay, Malfoy "deserved it," all Harry can think about is that Snape is being completely UNFAIR to have Harry in detention while, since Ginny dumped Dean, some other guy might snatch her up before he can at the Quidditch Match. This is ALL in ONE chapter. Now, What is wrong with this picture? Can you prove that Harry is not drugged here because OotP Harry would be disgusted by HBP Harry. G/H is repulsive, and Jo wrote it that way. Why would ANYONE, even a G/H Shipper, want to support THAT? The only thing that can be said about CANON G/H is that it is sickening. If Jo wants to think it is "wonderful" then that is HER problem, not mine. G/H smells a bit too much like something out of Hostel or Saw and Saw II. You know, the ones who do the choppin'. YUCK!
