WRITING. RAPE. IS. BAD.
Pointed in the direction of this by a friend.

Over at [info]ygo_rants community, [info]aguitarist lets
everyone know what is unacceptable in fanfiction. This includes rape, which
there is apparently NEVER EVER EVER an excuse for writing.

Some of the other posters make their disagreement known. Small for now, but may
grow.

So, by all accounts writing rape is not only bad and ZOMG!unacceptable in fanfic, but also in fiction in general.

Someone really should let that rotting pillar of immorality and degrading literature William Shakespeare know that, because he used rape quite often as a "cheap plot device". Look at Titus Andronicus and The Rape of Lucrece and...blah, I know there was at least one other play that had a heroine being raped as a crucial plot point.

1. Rapefics. 99% of rapefics are shit. Why would you want to write that, anyway? Rape is a horrible, painful, degarding experience. Only a sick fuck would get off on writing about it and upsetting actual real life rape victims with it. Most rape authors don't even research, they just think "OMG hot sex!" and write noncon. Which is fucked-up.

Why would I want to write it? Personally I do not get off on rape, in fact, I'm first in line against rape. But, why is he assuming that everybody who writes rapefics are doing it to get horny? Really, it's like he doens't think it could be used as something else... like ya know, major psychological torture or something.

Well, for what it's worth, I agree with the original poster in that rape in fan-fiction is rarely written well or with due regard for the psychological aspects, but that's an argument against reading it, not against writing it. Moreover, nobody appointed this person the arbiter of what is and is not acceptable and anybody who lays down the law the way she did is just asking to be humiliated.

On the other hand, she is obviously self-humiliating; responding to her critics with "YOU'RE A STUPID CUNT WHO CAN'T LISTEN" is not exactly guaranteed to win friends and influence people, is it? If she can't rise to a more sophisticated level of argument, she's not going to gain many converts.

Maybe she should just stay out of grown-up discussions until she can handle them.

I was giggling all the way through that rant. I find it hilarious that s/he's against NC-17 fics but one of the interests listed in that person's profile is "corrupting innocent virgins". So apparently it's wrong to think about fictional anime characters having sex but perfectly okay to deflower underage kids and think about kids (H/Hr is listed under interest too) having sex. Yup, makes perfect sense.

Also about the anti-yaoi stuff there are some characters in YGO that make you go "Hmm...", which is a part of why I love the series so much. For these characters it would be a lot more OOC to pair them with a female. Anyone anti-yaoi probably shouldn't become involved in the YGO fandom for that reason.

No, but that's what WARNINGS are for. You know, so you know when to avoid something you don't want to read? That little 'x' in the top right corner is also helpful for avoiding things you don't want to read.

And someone who likes shota might be a pedophile, so... =/ Not all fetishes are harmless.

In the real world, no they aren't, but this is fanfiction. Nothing in fanfiction is dangerous... except bad grammar/spelling. That may very well kill innocent brain cells.

WRITING something and DOING something are two entirely different things.

How do people like this keep learning how to use a computer?

Though I have to ask, was I the only one annoyed by the_sweet's "OMG ANIME IS SO MUCH MORE MEANINGFUL THAN CARTOONS" spiel? Not to say most American cartoons aren't drivel, but still, there is some godfuckingawful anime out there. 'course, I may have taken offense because I watched 13 episodes of Batman: the Animated Series this weekend and -- shock! -- there were adult themes! even though it wasn't Japanese! ...mmmmm, Batman.

Anime =/= cartoon.
