Your HP Theory Is Rediculous. O RLY?
A mouse on [info]wank_report wanted this reported. [info]unemployedlemon posts a theory on [info]harry_potter that Lily's and Harry's eyes are green from surviving the Avada Kedavra posts. Lots of people go, "Interesting!" until [info]midnight_d replies:

"I'm sorry, but that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Sometimes I feel like people are just thinking of the most rediculous things possible in order to think of "new" theory."

And off it goes. My other favourite lines include:

[info]jilicious: "ROFL Thank you. I read this and then the "Interesting!" or "Creative!" and all I could think was "Is everyone drunk? Is this a theory where I need to be drunk in order to appreciate it?"

and

I have to agree with the people that say it's stupid, though I wouldn't have responded so tactlessly. I mean, parsimony, people! Lily had green eyes, and there's no evidence of AK spells turning any part of people green. We already have a genetic reason for Harry's green eyes.

So yeah, it's stupid.

Holy shit, people, it's not that hard. And I see it everywhere.

I think I've found a new pet peeve, right behind the overuse of elipses.

As for Harry's eyes being green because of AK, that is a pretty stupid theory. When Lily ever survive AK? Sure it was cast on her, but she didn't exactly walk away from that one. Plus, her eyes were green before that.

And, IIRC, JKR herself has said that Lily had no idea her death would save Harry. No one had any idea that her actions would cause some crazy ancient magical chain reaction, not even Voldemort. Dumbledore only pieced it together after the fact.

Like half of the "meta" in fandom isn't already fucking ridiculous. I swear I sometimes see posts linked to fandom newsletters with questions like "[username] wants to know if others also see Hermione's bra colour as relevant in regards to who R.A.B. might be." Like WTFFF.

The Green Color Thanks To Curse thing would so be Rowling, though. I hope I'm not right about this.

Ok, I know what's going on. This is one of the people who thinks Daniel Radcliffe=Harry Potter. And since his eyes are blue, there must be some magical reason why his parents have green eyes. Because genetics just don't work that way.

Okay, maybe I'm a moron, but it doesn't strike me as THAT stupid. Unlikely, sure, but so are a lot of things. Wasn't there some interview quote where JKR said that the constant repetition that he has Lily's green eyes had some deeper significance? This isn't THAT much weirder than the "Harry's a seer/wandless mage/super special powerful person just like Lily!" theories.

Awesome line. InSLUTing people. Ahh, I'm amused easily.

Also...it drives me batty when people go apeshit over the colours of the spells. I mean, how many spells are there? Do they really think there's a corresponding colour for each one? That's a lot of damn colours!!!

Maybe Harry's eyes aren't AK green, but the spell for removing stains from underwear green?

I think jilicious is right in that you have to be drunk to appreciate the theory. Makes me want to go mix up a Screwdriver so I can understand the whole theory myself.

I read this and then the "Interesting!" or "Creative!" and all I could think was "Is everyone drunk? Is this a theory where I need to be drunk in order to appreciate it?

It probably wouldn't help, but then again it probably wouldn't help to be drun anything you went near the HP fandom.
