More boobie related gamer wank
There's this article making the round on my friendslist by Kim Ron, self proclaimed "eSportler" (the article is a few days old but I checked on both [info]otf_wank and [info]fandom_wank and couldn't find anything, so beat me if this is old). Subtly, sensitive and insightful he writes:

Men are better at computer-games than women. Big surprise. We grow up playing games, we spend enormous amounts of time playing games, we consciously dedicate time to better ourselves and we are competitive by nature. No wonder we are better gamers.

He thinks the only four reasons female eSportlers ever get a sponsor are:

They have vaginas.
They have asses.
They have tits.
They have mouths.

That more or less covers the 4 primary selling-points for female gaming teams.

Of course, splooge flies. 123 comments and still counting on the article itself and another 115 on LJ's girl_gamers. An intermediate wank but worth noticing.

We have the mindless yay sayers like  jonas:

But I do believe that any girl/woman involved in gaming would deny your conclusion.
Nontheless very very true :D

Yes, indeed, there are some titbearing wannabegamers who care to disagree, er, I mean, are in denial:

nmo: I’ll tell you what the problem is. It’s not that you begin your thoughts with drawing a clear line between female and male gamers; dividing the scene and clearly saying that “Hey, I will never let you enter my world of male dominance”. That I can deal with. What bothers me the most is that you, in a very explicite way, draw paralells with being a two-dollar hooker and a female gamer, no, I wont buy that.

To which Kim cleverly replies: nmo, I’m not saying that I (or anyone else) will never allow female gamers into a world of male dominance. I am just stating the obvious

Laust thinks that GAMING IS SIRIUZ BUSINESS!

The only reasonable feedback I can see is nmo’s arguments.

The rest is either “thumbs up” or “fU** j0 I dizagrEE with my no-brain comments!1″

And that’s my point really. There are just too many teenagers and people living their lives online in the esport business, that the ones who’ve actually got something to say are waisting their time

MissHyper says:   U say u support female gaming, but after an articel like this u just removed all respect for female gamers and removes quite a bit more respect herself a few lines later. And mark my words, i dont say female gamers is as good as male, far from, but i really think if they got the chance and u gave those tho deserves it a bit respect, i dont think it will take long before u see some girls joing up with “Pro-teams”

Wan Zafran really would like to respect femal gamers. Srsly: Once upon a time I believed that there was equality in the world of gaming; at least in terms of skills over gender. And then I kicked so many female asses that the statement became a false one.

On LJ [info]elhaym_solaris suggests: Perhaps the reason he thinks all gamer-girls are unskilled camwhores, is because those are the only ones he's gotten to see due to his fantastic social skills

[info]stellarstiles: Oh-uh. Someone must have been owned by a girl with big boobs in the past and is feeling a little bit inadequate, no?

While I'm a girl gamer myself, i do sometimes wonder a bit why all the big sponsored girl gaming teams like the 'frag dolls' all consist of skinny, pretty girls. Where are the overweight, glasses wearing chicks like me? Surely some of them have to be really good gamers too.

I love stellarstiles for vocalizing my first thought to his rather inane rant.
Nevermind that being "better at video games" (and then getting a boner on it!) seems kinda stupid to me, I mean...do you -have- to be the best at something you do for fun? Weren't games made for that purpose? Maybe that's just me though. I for once suck at such games. And it's not because of my gender, but because I am not very competitive and prefer to play WITH others, not AGAINST others. Which is because I think that way, not because of my gender. Other way round. The most competitive person I know is absolutely not male. 100% sure.

I was a bit pissed by this article, but some of the girl gaming groups do go overboard with the camwhoring. But that might just be to gain sponsorship. I'm a girl gamer and I've been playing since I was 4 years old (I'm 28 now), and there are probably a bunch of other girls like me. However, I have no interest in competing in the games offered in esports currently - I just don't like FPS games.

I don't get why it seems cool lately to hate girl gamers. I don't remember this reaction back when I played original everquest, but now you go on the forums of a game like WoW and there are tons of threads about how girls suck or don't even play games at all.

Goddamn misogynist gamers. I hate them as much as, if not more than, my other gaming archrivals the knee-jerk Nintendo-bashers and the "hey you can't say you like video games if you don't like every single repetitive FPS and sports game to pop out of the compost heap of the video game industry, sorry"-types.

Does all this crap mean I have to stop beating my male friends when we have our epic Mercenaries mode RE4 contests?

We consciously dedicate time to better ourselves

So all the time that my roommates spend in front of the bathroom mirror is a total waste? I'll be sure to tell them next time I have to pee.

I'm sorry, but I can't past the thought that in calling yourself 'eSportler,' you immediately lose any right to discuss 'serious business.' Plus, his name is Kim. Ethnicity aside, this ordeal has 'Boy named Sue' written all over it. Maybe we should feel sorry for him for another reason then the phrase 'we spend enormous amounts of time playing games'. =(

Oh, I hear him totally. The only reason I watch all that silly, silly male sports can be summed up thusly:

They have pleasant penises (judging by the bulges).
They have firm asses.
They have musclear chests.
They lick their lips a lot.

And there's a competition Kim Ron would be very poor at, me thinks.

You know, I got my first games when I was 7, but it's only been recently that I encountered the 'Girls can't play games' mentality outside of the internet.

Yes, I'm bad a shooters, but that's because I don't like playing them, so I don't. Same goes for MMORPGs. I would much rather play an RPG on PS2, or a fighting game, or Katamari. On all these things, I can destroy at least 50% of the guys I go up against.

And I hang out with guys and girls in equal measure. And nearly all my friends game. And none of the guys have ever taken issue with the fact that girls were gaming.

My one and only negative encounter was when my boyfriend invited a guy he barely knew to join our tabletop. This guy had clearly never gamed with a girl before, much less two of them, and the entire session was filled with sexists jokes, innuendo, and patronizing. My friend playing the ditzy fairy came out okay, if uncomfortable, but he really just couldn't deal with the fact that my female character was played virtually sexless and, on top of that, was his commanding officer.
