V For Vendetta Terrorist Wank
Over on the IMDB Boards section for V For Vendetta, JongoJongo starts a thread called V is a terrorist and he's no hero or anybody good. For those of you who haven't seen the movie yet, V is the main "hero" of the movie, who challenges a tightwad government by means of scaring the crap out of them by blowing up a couple of buildings and turning the people against them.

Jongo's post reads- Something is really wrong when a film like this is made where the supposed "hero" is a terrorists who goes about killing people and blowing up buildings. Way to go by providing a film celebration of evil deeds to all the Islamic fanatics who at this moment, are planning their next attack on the West.

The Pro-Vs shout "matter of opinion", whilst the Anti-Vs say there's no way around the fact that he's a terrorist.

Ditchback decides he's had enough, so he rants and raves about the difference between a revolutionary and a terrorist. He also adds this in as a last "slap to the face" insult- Terorists and fanboys who argue that terrorists are somehow cool are not my friends! (Can we icon that? Please, someone icon that!)

Ditchback's argument is, what else, pushed back by the Anti-Vs that also have turned to "matter of opinion". He also gets into a bit of an argument with twister_55_tx over how you should see V in light of the movie. Twister shoots back by saying Ditchback can't "think outside the box".

UCSBinSD seems to close the argument with his statement- I'm sure you attack all movies with similar themes equally, right? So I'm sure if I go over to the Star Wars message board I'll see a post from you about how terrible it is that we glorify such rebel scum as Luke Skywalker. He was a terrorist, right? Please get some perspective.

This has room to become more wanky within a couple of hours, give or take.

Edit: And the wank spills all over IMBD.com's forums!

Capslock on YEY.
I'm trying to be witty with my sarcastic thread title!
Why didn't they mention 9/11? Maybe because 9/11 didn't happen twenty years ago and the movie is set in Britain?
TOO MUCH HOMOSEXUALITY!!

There's way too much to link to, since this Terrorist/Revolutionary wank has become such a "big thing". So how about wading through all of the splooge in the V For Vendetta message board and picking your favorites?

Oh ho, V for Vendetta wank. I wonder if this is going to be a trend, considering the fundamentally wan kable premise of the movie.

I'd argue in this one, but I'm biased because I want to have wild, kinky sex with V's brain and live in his lair.

It looks like ditchback is making an argument over semantics. Yet he finds it necessary to say:

Terrorists ar bad, it's that simple. Let's try to simply this...the Devil is bad, Murder of children is bad, Raping your Grandma is bad...Terrorism is bad.

Well, sheesh! What am I gonna do with that little girl in my trunk then?

Did V actually kill anyone with these explosions, or did the bombs go off when the buildings were empty/evacuated? 'Cause if he made sure that no-one died, I don't think he can be called a terrorist, unless he said something like "And next time, I will kill people".

::snicker:: I actually love the Star Wars crack. I mean, seriously, think how many fewer action movies there would be unless you had an anti-hero taking on a corrupt entity, be it a government or a corporation.

Yes! All violent revolt is inherently terrorism, and all terrorism is inherently evil, even when fighting against a corrupt government!

And that's why we all hate George Washington.

The thing that bothered me the most about the films was a) they didn't make the regime not even nearly as vicious as Moore did. I mean in the novel, there were *no* old people, in fact its hinted that they are beat to death when they get to the homes to save money on gas!

b) Why, why must everything be about America? Why for once can't an Americam film maker just make a film about another country's problem US excluded? Not that of course obviously the allergory cannot be used also for Modern America, but did they really have to make it seem like it was all America's fault? And not mulitple countries like Moore did?

Are film makers unaware of what causes wank on the internet?!

/wank

What's that law again? The one that brings out the Nazis? Because I keep thinking that the High Chancellor reminded me of Hitler, and I don't think that it was a "coincidence" that the colours of his party were Red and Black :O

But... what do I know? All I did during the show was go, "GUUUUUUUUUH WANT V, creey mask, scars and weird hair do and everything else."

*loves the scene where V first met Evey...

Heh, I would have posted this myself, but there's so much wank going on at IMDB at any given time, from "V is gay, no he's not!" wank to "V is Valerie, no he's not!" wank to "Alan Moore doesn't like it, that means it sux!" wank and of course the ever popular "Why aren't there any gay male kisses in the movie, OMG HOMOPHOBIA!1!" wank. It is an extremely wankable movie. That sounded really dirty. But it's so true. *doesn't make a comment about wanting to wank V*

I am so sick of this crap. Terrorists target non-combatants. Terrorists target non-combatants. I've repaeated this so everyone can understand. If you still don't get it, look up non-combatant in the dictionary. Revolutionarries are not terrorists.

Woah, yeah, the French Revolution totally didn't involve the 'Great Terror' where the monarchy and all loyalists were butchered en masse. And people like Marie Antoinette were actually combatants and could totally defend themselves.

By this guy's logic, the French Revolution was an act of terrorism. Which lead to ... modern democracy! Way-hey, how about that?

V was a terrorist.

That was the point. He was a morally ambiguous person, although the movie got rid of a lot of that ambiguity. Even so, how is it possible to do to someone what he did to Evey and then claim it was for her own good? He was insane and single-minded and, yes, a terrorist.

And a fictional character. *wipes up*

Did anyone besides me think the sound effects were ridiculously loud? Especially the sword noises?

*misses the point*

Okay, yes, I haven't read the graphic novel. But the movie rocked my socks. And I am joining the legions of fangirls who want to live in V's happy lair of arty d00m.

Is the graphic novel more available now? Last reports I heard were that it was vaguely hard to find.

I'll probably wank here, but...

Most violent revolutionaries are terrorists from the point of view of the governments that are on the receiving end. I'm pretty sure the French aristocracy wasn't too keen to think of the peasants as the harbringers are great change in the midst of their guillotine fetish. I think people are just going to have to accept that anyone who goes about bringing government change violently is inherently terrorist in nature; it's only by winning that they're later written as heroes.

Funny, I thought that one person's freedom fighter was another person's terrorist. It depends on what side you're on.

And here I thought the whole ambiguinity was the point...silly me.

By these standarts, most action movies(especially james bond's acts against the poor sowjets) are supporting terrorism!

But killing is always okay if the killer is hot!*

Being cable-less, I had no idea anyone was even making a V for Vendetta movie until I saw a TV spot while visiting my parents. It led to the following conversation:

Me: Wait, that looked like V for Vendetta. They're making a V for Vendetta movie?
Mom: I don't know.
Me: Yep. Looks like it. Huh. I really liked the comic book.
Mom, warily: Comic book?
Me: Yeah. It was a limited series that I read about a zillion years ago. It was really good.
Mom: *That* didn't look like a comic book to me.
Me: Oh, yeah. Yeah, there's the title, it's the same book. It was really good.
Mom: You must be wrong. It couldn't have been a comic book, because that didn't look like a very funny movie.

I'll just draw a veil over the rest of the conversation....
