Y'know. I'd always sort of had this impression that

askollieandhal was a pretty sane, cool guy, but I hadn't really seen enough of him to say it with conviction.

It's the "only" that's a gross exaggeration. Because if they "only" interacted with them, they'd have their own community. But when dealing with thousands of characters, simplifications like that get made.

Because god does that sum up a bigass percentage of Nexuswank right there, and it's so true.

Kali is insane. Very, very insane. Not Daisie-insane, but nevertheless.

The most vocal of the people against her are often tactless, and prone to overreaction and mob mentality. (I try not to include myself in this particular category, but I know I can still get swept up in it at times.) Add the two, mix in the fact that the place has been about due for another wanksplosion, and... well. You get a wanksplosion. It happens. *shrug* At least we got a bunch of amusing image macros out of it!

I said here that I liked the OP of the wanky post, which was possibly a mistake on my part. Not that I don't like him, but I don't actually know him, other than through a few other posts on BRPS and scans_daily that were a lot more sensible and less wanky. I now have an email from him, which he politely requested that I post.

This next part, it's only because I can't comment to fandom_wank myself, thanks to no money + no anonymice are allowed to post on that entry. So if you're not interested, feel free to skip it, ignore it, whatever you want. I really don't mind. But I would like the f_wankers to hear the entire story - from my perspective, at least.

Just so the record is clear, that grammar rule that Kali's supposedly enforcing? It's not a rule. At least, if it was, there was never a public announcement by the mods that it was now going to be in effect, and it is still not a part of the official Sages rules on the userinfo page. I would have been *fine* with it, had that been the case.

No, the simple fact of the matter was that she replied to a comment by someone's character where they'd misspelled "psychological" and "until" as "psycological" and "untill" but managed to get the rest of the sentence grammatically correct, even managing to use the correct version of they're/their/there, a feat in itself, given the homophone-confused state of most of the internet (I get it wrong myself, sometimes, but I spent most of my life ritually flogging myself with a copy of Strunk and White, so it's not a very common error on my part), and proceeded to tell them "if you're going to continue playing here, we advise you to work on using your spell-checker and fixing your grammar."

At which point a friend of mine (janewt - and I don't mind mentioning her LJ screen name, since she said so herself on my BRPS rant) pointed this out to me in a flocked post on a mutual friend's journal, which sounds more complicated and obtuse than it actually is.

No, if you've seen Dear Kali, you know this isn't the first time she's tried this kind of stunt, where she suddenly decides that what she has willingly allowed many times in the past no longer floats her boat because it's being done by somebody she actively dislikes, and makes a new rule that she selectively enforces - meaning, anyone except the people who she loves gets fucked. And I know you like her, as you said, but that's the perception she gives off. If she actually feels different - none of that "I'm sorry you interpreted my actions that way" spiel she's pulled in the past - I'd sure as hell love to hear it. I might even believe it. Lord knows I want to - I joined Sages in November of 2004 - practically right after it started. And I didn't - still don't - really want to have to leave.

I could point to at least three or four entries on that day alone that clearly hadn't been run through a spellchecker or grammar program of any kind - even the crappy MS Word one. And she chose to warn someone for misspelling "psycological."

I'm sorry, but that just smacks of favoritism and impartiality to me - a favoritism that can't be predicted or coped with. And in that kind of environment, I don't want to RP, because I can't tell if I might be next on the hit list.

And that's my side of the story - why I left Sages, and why I'm staying gone for good. There's a lot in my rant that I had left vague, because I didn't want to start a full-on flame war with floorwang included, but I guess that was stupidly optimistic on my part. I'd seen what happened in the past with this, and it's my fault for being the spark that lit the tinderbox on fire.

But I'm still not sorry for leaving, or for letting everyone know why.
