DANNY fandom wank!
What do you mean you are not into DANNY fandom?

[info]chancery_stone, author of DANNY, appeared on my flist announcing her latest lj entry in [info]wuthering and [info]sistersbronte, because it discusses Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, and DANNY.
I do most certainly not begrudge her that, since I was interested in what she had to say about these novels.
I was, however, even more interested in what she had to say in her userinfo:

There is also a discussion board run here on Live Journal by some 'fans' called Chancerys_Danny. I am not permitted to view it, and have nothing to do with its content (that's how you know this is an authentic cult novel - nothing but drama all the way), but this is the place to go if you want to diss the dirt on me - there is plenty there.

Unfortunately you will need high credentials to enter. They won't admit new users, anyone who doesn't have a regularly maintained journal, or who is not a committted net user and only wants to discuss the book. They are morbidly afraid of spies so you will have to go through the mill of suspicion that you are really me in disguise.

Should you be dedicated enough to endure this just to read about my nasty, unlovable side, a fast and simple way to shortcut this tedious process is to tell them all the things you dislike about me and/or my work. After that your journal can be a big fat zero, you will be embraced as a sister (remember never to let your facade slip though, or you'll be right out on your arse again).

The fan comm mod, excuse me, the 'fan' comm mod has this to say in an open post:

Because of the articles and blog posts by Chancery Stone, which can be read on her website and blog I have decided to moderate membership. If you are a Danny fan and wish to discuss the book, we would love to have you! Please join in the usual way and I will approve you. However, if you are not a regular Live Journal user, and appear to be a fake journal trying to read what we have to say, you will not be approved. I will be checking all journals before admitting anyone.

I would never have imagined that I would have to close membership on a book community, however criticism of the novel Danny has riled the author considerably and many attacks have been made by her using things expressed here in open discussion. Since the author has decided to resort to personal attacks away from the source of the discussion, I have decided that I am no longer going to allow her access to our comments so that discussion of the book can be enjoyed freely and without reservation. Many thanks for your understanding.

Apparently several new lj users have expressed the wish to discuss DANNY, since the community, which so far has five members, is locked.
Meet [info]valentinotango, [info]bronte_babe, [info]jeff_peters, [info]poisondripper, [info]jodie0992 and [info]jillandjodie.

Stone heavily denies that she has anything to do with the sockpuppets dramatic increase of DANNY fans, in her rant against the locking ( Why the fuck would I go to the effort of pretending to be someone else, actually making up a journal, to find out what they say?), although she obviously learned about the unpleasant screening process behind closed doors, as she described in her Farewell To The Famous Five.

I can give you the beginning of the drama.
For all the snide remarks in between, you will have to read her blogspirit.

No Anne Rice bashing, please.

ETA: Have some links to guide you through the splooge.

ETA2: The members of Wuthering read Fanfom Wank or her journal and thus comment anonymously. Hilarity ensues. In which she denies to have ever called Cathy's husband Edward.

ETA3: A brandnew, unfortunately now already deleted, sock joins [info]jillandjodie's discussion group and a stinkin' anonymous troll links her back here: link

ETA4: The Famous Five bring presents. Wheeee!

ETA5: Put those Potter stickers down for a moment and read Chancery Stone's response to Fandom Wank.
Also, I AM Chancery Stone! Maybe.

I didn't feel like fiddling with the encoding to change her book excerpts from random Chinese characters into English, so I went to the "Articles" section. Comedy gold jackpot!

Watch as she reinvents the "Why do women write slash?" wheel with an extra order of armchair psychiatry:

In theory it's great these women are really into this, great they are writing their own porn. If only they were.

It's as if they daren't put a face to their own desires, they have to superimpose them on existing creations with sub rosa homosexual subtexts. Name any male fictional character who displays a little too much male bonding or an ambiguous sexuality, and there's slash/fanfic about them.

Does this make these women feel less abnormal? - 'I didn't think up the pervy homosexual thing, it was in there already'.

Less vulnerable? - 'These men wouldn't freak if I got them to kiss each other'.

More acceptable? - 'Look, all these other women think Angel and 'whoever' really secretly fancy each other.' (No, never seen that either ... shit.)

Shut up, gay boys! My oppression trumps your piddling complaints of homophobia:

Yes, there's lots of gay sex in [DANNY], but it was written as revenge, pornography and to show how being gay could be manufactured just like any other part of a person's psyche.
...
It may not be fashionable to be fat, but it's nobody's business but your own. It may be fashionable to be gay, but it doesn't make you special, nor have you been singled out by God. You're just fucked up like the rest of us. There's very little difference if your family dysfunction makes you crave dick or doughnuts, you'll still end up socially marginalised.

But you shouldn't be, it's not fair.

Oh tragic, get over it. You will be.

Be thankful you're queer not podgy - at least you're allowed to appear on TV and in Vogue.

Other highlights:
Warning: This attitude will only get you places if your name is George Lucas.
Godwin's ahoy, and her antipathy to fanfic writers is explained!

Holy fudge, what an ego! I missed all of this the first time around. And used her friend's real name in that fanfic is evil article? What an idiot.

I think slash is the sex version of fanfic - but don't quote me on this.

It's really easy to find out the definition of slash, but it's easier to write a long rant about something without getting your facts straight first.

why drag me in? What part of DANNY comes out of the Sound of Music or Little Women? Leave me alone, already. I'm insulted.

Tosser please. NO ONE is writing fanfic about you. You're just pissed as hell that the world hasn't hailed your book as the best thing ever.

It would be hilarious if Eileen were a published* writer now. Or even a really good fanfic writer, because in that case, she probably STILL writes better and has more fans than Chancery Stone.

* - by a respectable publisher, not Wanksplosion Vanity Press or the like.

Hee, that would be AWESOME. And you've made me laugh so much at "Wanksplosion Vanity Press". I now wish I owned a vanity press by that name.

WRITERS: Do your thoughts on yaoi, your screeds against fellow fen, your apologia for fan-donated iPods, your 300-chapter S&M curtainfic, or your tl;dr challenge to those mean girls you just don't care for the bourgie, gender-normative, othering parts of fandom lay in the depths of your harddrive where they belong unpublished? NO MORE! Let Wanksplosion Vanity Press give these works of genius the dead tree edition they deserve! You, too, can call yourself a "published writer" and win argumetns with wankers even more insecure than you are!

Bare legs were considered abnormal when she was growing up? Just how old *is* this person? It sounds like she grew up on the frontier next door to the Ingalls family.

So she basically goes hunting around, looking for internet praise, and whines that people have better things to do than talk about her book all the time online?

Well that explains all the Chinese characters in the excerpts.

The Godwin's post essentially says, "You're Hitler for pointing out my mistakes!" Because her mistakes are what make her work unique? Buh? She seems to think she's some groundbreaking new school of writing all by herself.

Oh, she must have been a joy in school writing courses.

That was my favorite essay. Out of all that WTFery, it managed to be the most nonsensical.

I can only imagine her in a writing class. At the first hint of criticism, she probably stood up, said, "YOU ARE ALL INTERROGATING THIS PORN FROM THE WRONG PERSPECTIVE," and left.

So wait. It's not porn unless a writer puts in a Mary Sue female character to identify with? Or is it that it isn't porn if you don't use original characters? I'm so confused.

Last time I checked, people don't get kicked out of their families, denied the right to marry, or crucified to fence posts because they're fat. But yes, people do laugh at fat people, which is ZOMG oppreshen! And obviously not being in Vougue is much, much worse than anything those whiny emo gay people go through.

...this person fills me with the need to do violence.

Dude, I'll drive. And I'm fat, and definitely all about fighting the notion that it's okay to laugh at fat people.

Unless, of course, you're the type of person who laughs at everyone, including yourself (eg Carlos Mencia, Dave Chappelle.) If you're not just singling out teh_fatties, then laugh away. I'll laugh with you.

And I actually have a cat that angry. He's so angry that he'll jump in my lap, hiss at me, then jump down again, just to remind me how much he hates everything. I heart him so much. XD
