Mild, fat-free wank
What started out as a fairly innocuous thread on AMM (that last great bastion of the deranged) has now devolved into speculations about Davy Jones' drinking habits and whether or not he was seen "hung over" and definitions of typical alcoholic attributes and examples of why Mr. Jones meets and/or exceeds them. Then Jan, champion of all things Midget, chimes in with "no recovering alcoholic has the right to preach to, nag at, or go to a sleazy tabloid to expose a friend or acquaintence because they still drink and the alcoholic feels he cannot". Then it goes on to revelations about the Manchester Midget's alleged drunk driving.

(This is, for those of you outside the fandom, a very common thing on this particular newsgroup--whilst fans of individual Monkees get along pretty well elsewhere, on AMM the Davybabies do not consort with the proto-hippy-snobby Torkaholics, and the Torkaholics do not associate with the egotistical, height-challenged Davybabies. Nezheads like me sit back, have a cognac, and chuckle at the whole mess.)

37 posts long and still running. I predict triple digits before it peters out (bad pun intended).

Well, I feel stupid. I didn't even know there *was* a Monkees fandom.

I think you've made the right choice with the Nesmith-love, though. I approve wholeheartedly.

The first time I ever heard of there being such a thing as a Monkees fandom was when [info]redconverse told me she had caught one of her public library's female patrons using the computers to read Monkees slash (It was fanfic, however, so she decided to overlook it. IIRC, at least - that was like two years back, so you're better off asking her for the actual story.).

Red always brought the most amusing stories about her part-time job there. *LOL*

Anyway, the Monkees are something that was somewhat before my time, so I'm totally lost regarding them and this catfight. It's kinda cute to see that some ladies never stopped being fangirls, though. *snerk*

And most of those ladies are adults--some with children, a couple old enough to be my mother.

I caught the bug back during the whole revival in the '80s, then again a couple of years ago when I saw Head on AMC. But the fandom has such sinkholes of wank that I pretty much stay in my corner now. I'm going to see Peter next week and I'm just hoping and praying none of these chicks show up or I might have to hurt them.

Or laugh at them. Either one will do.

(((HUGS))) Don' worry--I'll get pics of everything, although there'll probably be a lot just riding around in the car. *G*

Oh, did you know that what's wrong with Sammi is way the fuck funnier than we could have ever imagined? The root of all her problems stems from her partial lobotomy!

I swear I couldn't make this shit up even if I got high on crack first . . .

What do they call the Mickey Dolenz girls? Dolenzites?

Micky's followers are called Dolenzkateers, or D'kateers for short.

Mwah! Thank you for bringing this funneh, funneh wank.

When I was six years old, My First Fandom (TM Playskool) was the Monkees. My best friend and I were obsessed with them, never missed an episode, knew all the songs, and used to make up stories where we were friends with them and went to all their concerts. Yes, I'm a geek from way back.

The wank makes me glad I outgrew them before I got online, but still gives me that nostalgic Monkees love. *g*

To be honest, AMM represents the worst of the Monkees fandom. There's no moderation on that list and no way to kick out the morons. You just have to wait for them to leave on their own. Other boards that do have mods (like monkeeland and the shoopies list) are so much friendlier and nicer, with bunches of good people. I've met my best friends through the Monkees; I guess it's always tempting to judge a fandom by its worst members sometimes . . . most of us just watch the eps, write stories, trade pics, and and get goofy and googly over them, which is how it should be, I guess.

Basically what that long paragraph says is that the wank is usually found at AMM. Most of the other places are (Monkees) normal.

well, it's not a list, it's usenet.
