GUH. Y'know what's becoming my pet peeve REAAALLLY quick? When people think they're being snarky and use stupid names like 'honey/sweetie/baby/snookum-pie'.

Especially when lots of people do it at once, and it reads like a bad smutfic or something.

God, yes. When people say 'honey' in that lovely condescending fashion, my sympathies toddle off to the Other Side. I hate the fucking word so much as well, unless it is the HONEY YOU CAN EAT ON BREAD. I don't even like it when people refer to their significant others as 'my honey' -- NO. HONEY GOES ON MOTHERFUCKING BREAD.

It's the little things than can really drive someone over the edge.

On a completely random tangent, one of the "reasons songfics fail" is that often nobody knows what song you're talking about, so the only way to make them workable is by using a song that everyone knows.

The only time songfics work for me is when I don't know the song.

Ugh, songfics.

If you really think a song sets a mood or has a couple lines that YOU MUST QUOTE...

Start the fic off with a quote. Then leave it. Standard Stephen King practice, and I'll be damned if it doesn't work a whole lot better than sticking song bits throughout the fic.

I have never. EVER. actually read the song lyrics of a songfic. I've read maybe one or two good ones, and then it was really irritating me to have to scroll through the fairly irrelevent song to get to more fic.

It was a Sol/Ky fic. There was a lot of actual fic between the quotes from the song.

Or maybe my memory is warping it because I was so desperate for Sol/Ky fanfiction. Whatever.

I don't think anyone could know how utterly LAME songfics truly are. Not until they've seen ... a fic in which Harry Potter stands in the DursleyHouse singing Depeche Mode's 'Home' whilst...looking at rooms.

Also, 'Larger than Life' whilst Riddle's playing a quidditch game. Good times, in the 40s. Good times with the BSB.
