Ginny's milkshake brings non-Harmonian wank to the HP table.
First wank report! Read first, shoot later, yeah? And if this belongs in the Cornfield, let me know and I can move it. ETA: This is all thanks to a mouse on wank_report. AND I fixed my tags.
With a thread title of No Place In R/hr Fandom For Ginny-haters?, I feel so isolated it was only a matter of time before the wank started.
On page one we meet our wanker—the OP Rinny1000. She very frank about hating Ginny. Opening with the line I hate Ginny. But she's polite about it and explains herself.
DO think she used Dean, or at the very least, kept on with him knowing that she'd drop him in a hot minute for Harry. I DO think that she was an immature bint who was cruel to Ron and to Hermione, in a way, by spilling about the Krummy!Kiss. And I DON'T think that she was noble and sweet when Harry broke up with her. Her pissy, "That's why I like you so much" at the end was self-serving, IMO.
...she also says that she feels weird about disliking her so much, being a diehard martinet about R/Hr.
The first few posts generally agree that Ginny wasn't their cup of tea and it's all very polite.
Still, it's GINNY, yo. So Shiiki very kindly explains that there will be wank, because All right, I'm not sure if everyone will start glaring when I say this, but I am a Ginny fan. Now, I'm not trying to bash you anti-Ginny people, but I'd just like to say a few words on her behalf.
Because Ginny really needs somebody on her behalf. Because it's not like she's a fictional character with no feelings or anything.
Much of the pro-Ginny statements can be summed up as "she's a kid!" and "you don't understand, so I will explain it to you in carefully tl;dr statements.
Bartholomew JoJo Simpson, who doesn't like Ginny, sums up the pro-Ginny arguments for our OP. YOU'RE SEXIST!! YOU HATE GINNY BECAUSE YOU WERE UGLY AND UNPOPULAR IN SCHOOL AND JEALOUS OF GIRLS LIKE GINNY!!!11! YOU'RE JUST A MISOGYNIST WHO HATES STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS!!
But adds the line Ha, ha, ha, just playing with you. (with an adding laughing face)
Rinny1000 really kicks things off at the end of page one by lamenting that It's funny, but it's sad. I expect leaps of logic on that scale from rabid H/Hr fans. When I get it from my fellow Goodshippers, it makes me sad, it really does. and apparently inviting people to defend Ginny even more fervently because…
Malaleen has had enough of the Ginny hate.
You know, I see enough Ginny hate in other parts of the fandom. It's sad to see Ron be replaced by Ginny as the most criticized and bashed character. It upsets and annoys me that I am beginning to see it on a site that is generally friendly to Ginny and the Weasley's.
…and has a little drama about that
I honestly don't care if you don't care for Ginny Weasley, but boy, am I getting tired of hearing about it from the fandom. I can't seem to go anywhere these days and not seem some kind of Ginny bashing. What's next, someone on this thread going to compare her to Bellatrix? Wish she was brutally raped and murdered by Death Eaters?
evanesco75 seems to want people to admit that "You're calling her a slut!"
My first impulse was a disbelieving laugh: as some other posters pointed out, we're talking about a 15 year old girl here! Some of the comments people have made are akin to discussing a grown woman, with certain levels of maturity and experiences (and no, I don't mean excessive snogging).
Sordina calls her on the attitude.
What does being melodramatic and combative solve? The person who started this thread voiced an opinion. If you're going to be that disturbed by it, then in future, skip threads like these. See? Easy. This is a site for Ron/Hermione shipping first and foremost. Nowhere in the TOS does it say that people who post stories or fic here have to love Ginny, and last I checked, it was perfectly okay for people to post their opinions on a message board.
Mod PythonBlossom throws in a few cents, among the change is a politely worded sexist h0rz.
I find it incongruent - to put it rather politely - when people who like Ron or Fred and George in OoTP/HBP claim to hate her. It seems that they are setting different standards on her because of her gender and her dating practices
Which doesn't bother Rinny much, but thankfully Bartholomew JoJo Simpson shows up to give us a nice translation of: OMG sexist!!!11! (with a smiley face) and assures all that he hates the other Weasleys too.
For the record, I dislike Fred and George just as much as Ginny if not more, and for longer. (I think they're three rotten peas in a pod) I've been hysterically flamed by their fans for some of the things I've said about them.
Malvernrob doesn't feel sorry for Dean. simply because he's a teenage boy. and goes on to apply logic. You think Dean spent more than a few days mourning that loss? (…snip…)He just spent an undisclosed amount of time dating a really hot girl. He snogged her plenty (thats the conclusion i came to) and basically was probably the envy of a couple of his roommates (Seamus and Neville) as well no doubt a lot of fellow single males. You may think I'm being simplistic, but look what Dean has going for him. He's popular, a good looking guy, used to play Quidditch and a roommate of HP. He's not exactly going to be hard up to get another girlfriend. And at 16, yes it might sting Dean that Ginny is no longer with him. But really, I can't believe that he would be one of those guys who thought that his 15 year old girlfriend would be his forever.
Magentabear agrees, saying I think she's semi-justified for her treatment of Dean..
Which makes our OP, Rinny1000 angry enough to ignore a little canon I'm not sure I understand - she's semi-justified in dumping a guy over something that was literally not his fault? And she's justified in snogging a guy right in front of his face just scant weeks (or months, the timeframe is uncertain) after dumping him?
…and accuse Ginny supporters of attempting canon re-writing.
Did I miss the chapter where Dean slapped Ginny around, cheated on her, or called her a slag to her face? Because barring those things, I can't see how she's justified, semi or otherwise, in dumping him. Did she have a right to dump him? Sure. She's free to do what she chooses. But let's not rewrite history here - she dumped him over something Harry did and didn't give him the benefit of the doubt when he (Dean) tried to defend himself.
She also defends the oh-so soulful Dean. One of the most heartbreaking parts of the book for me (…snip…) was Dean's joy at being put on the Quidditch team. And his first thought? Telling Ginny. He was so obviously happy that he and Ginny would be able to spend more time together.
And so on and so forth over three pages of a topic that was obviously going to be anti-Ginny. Could be winding down, though, thanks to some help from quatto (who, as far as I can tell is NOT a hidden, mutant chestbaby) because he calls everbody on their insanity by actually starting his/her/its post with the lines: If I may insert my bit of insanity here.
Feel free, Quatto, everybody else has.
