	You're one to talk about someone else not knowing anything but talking about it anyway. You mean the audio book? No. That is not something anyone needs to pay for. That is available for free online. Please don't talk about what you obviously don't know about. A reader of mine (a H/Hr shipper, no less, who is a good friend!) WANTED to do that and is recording the chapters one at a time. Other readers are offering the space--for free--to store the files so that people can download them. Anyone claiming that the audiobook is being SOLD is an out-and-out liar. I have a lot of readers, evidently, who are sight-impaired and who don't like the quality of screen readers, upon which they usually rely for reading anything online. The difference between those mechanized voices and a talented actor reading the same work is like night and day. If folks are going to complain about one of my readers doing something incredibly nice for blind and sight-impaired HP fans I don't know what to say; that's one of the wankiest things I've ever heard, as well as thoroughly ungenerous. --Barb (Reply to this)(Parent)

	Well, either you or the ones who publish your fic seem to be doing money, because, indeed 300 pages bad quality printed pages for 60 dollars with no profit is not believable at all, sorry. I wouldn't allow my fanfic to be sold like that if I was you. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Principessa just told me ezine were the equivalent of printing a fanfic in the PC printer, i.e. bad printing quality. BTW, don't you agree 60 dollars for 30 pages is too expensive, we are talking of the price of two hard back HP books like OotP or HBP when they were just edited. Should I believe there is not profit? No copyright infringment? You are selling Harry Potter stuff without permission, I assume, of Ms. Rowling or her agents. How is that not copyright infringment? And at a price far, far higher than she herself does! Not only that, the price for your books are the highest I've seen on that site. I'm finding it hard to believe SOMEONE's not making money here. And the chances are, it's you. I don't even get WHY you are selling it. What possible reason is there for anyone to buy it? And at that price? What altruistic motive can you have here? If it's just for those poor souls who can't read online, or what have you, why are you printing it here with those costs (assuming you don't REALLY make money?) There's plenty of cheaper places to publish. And higher quality, too, most likely. I suppose you could be telling the truth about not making money--simply because no one would buy it there. If no one has bought a copy, then you've not made money, right enough. Which doesn't mean if someone did buy it you'd not see a dime. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

a) Check with Agent With Style if you don't believe that none of the authors see a red cent. We don't. End of story. Stop claiming that I'm making money when you haven't done a damn bit of homework or investigation into the matter. Find out more about zines before you talk about whether the authors are making money from them. b) Yes, I think they're incredibly expensive. I think most people would agree. I also think most people going to that site would be smarter to Google the works there that interest them and find free, online sources for the same fics. As far as I'm concerned it's just another place for my work to be listed, like ff.net, where I don't post anymore but have a link from my author page to the places where I really do post. It's for reference; in fact, I've been contacted by more than one reader who said they thought the prices were high so they found the free files through a search engine, so the site IS bringing me readers, even if it isn't making AWS a lot of money. It's definitely making me NO MONEY AT ALL AND NEVER WILL. c) If folks really want to pay that much money for the fics--I did not get any information about the list prices before the info went up on the website--that's their lookout, for not finding better and far cheaper ways to acquire the fics available for sale there. It's not my job to hold everyone's hand and tell them that they're throwing their money away on overpriced stuff. As far I know that isn't ANYONE'S job. If someone doesn't have common sense there's not much I can do about it. d) To my knowledge, the overhead for AWS includes the website and venders' fees for cons (where they sell zines in the venders' rooms) in addition to the printing materials, the printing itself, and shipping/postage. If you have any questions for them about why the prices for the zines seems so high I suggest you contact them. My involvement ended with telling them which versions of the files had the fewest errors in them, which one of their copyeditors took the time to fix (so they may have had to pay that copyeditor for his/her time). e) When I say I'm telling the truth, I'm telling the truth. Take a good look at that site. Did you know they have illegal copies of an author's work without her permission? (Not fan author, a published author) And they're charging 20+ bucks for them? They have illegal copies of "From Eroica With Love" on that site. Yeah, twenty years ago when the fandom at large was unlikely to be able to read a complicated Japanese series and no manga company was going to bring over a gay themed espionage spoof, I can kinda understand. But that's still very very illegal. Someone could have just done summaries or scripts without copying the artwork. And to still have them up for 20 bucks a pop when the series HAS been licensed for distribution here is just wrong, wrong, WRONG. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
