Variation On Oldbie vs. Newbie #42 in E-flat Minor
[info]mutantboyy is Not Happy with the sudden influx of Nightcrawler fans after the release of X2:

"I got a tattoo of kurt on my arm 4 years ago, and people didnt even know who he was, nw they are like, 'oh! I love Nightcrawler! He is my favorite!'"

Only seven comments so far, but hey, the day is young.

Damn those people who like the same things I do! I could just kick all of their asses. Especially if they're enthusiastic about the fandom or just getting into it. We should squash that as soon as it starts. Next thing you know they'll be learning more about it and participating in discussions!

...

I hate the assumption that because you're new to something, you're stupid. I hate it so much that I can't even be witty about it.

Yeah, it's hard to be witty when the people in question are just so mentally deficient in their logic that any attempt to be funny is overshadowed by the giant gaping hole in common sense they employ.

Erm... I'm having trouble parsing that, so I'll assume you meant them. ^_^; ahem.

It was just an aside; I know most people can be devastatingly witty about anything, but I'm just too RAR KILL MAIM to engage in repartee about it. Me smash elitist oldbie with big club!

Oh, Mongy (aka Rikoshi) over there is a longtime pal of mine, so rest assured that he meant that in regards to them, not you. ^_^

I figured (I lurk on TWS Support and recently did an embarrassing stint as a drive-by psychotherapist). I was just being nervous. ;p

The comment who said that if you "go around saying 'omdgfsgdksg nightcralwer ifsz he best! WE SHUD GET MARRIED' and you don't know shit about him, then THAT's annoying" got it pretty much right. Everyone is a newbie at some point, and if there were no newbies then fandoms would die out pretty damn quick.

Besides, who's to say that the people who start "on the bandwagon" won't just stay for the whole ride?

BEST QUOTE EVER:

When I get the cash I plan on getting Nightcrawler fighting the Juggernaut airbrushed on the hood of my 2001 Dodge Stratus.

And then the newbie down the street will get one too, and he'll cry his eyes out.

And then he'll try and import Japanese-only merchandise, and hit the Yahoo!Japan auctions to make sure he's cooler than everyone he knows!

Then someone will remind him that Japan is a real country, and that people there have normal access to Japanese goods. And he'll cry again.

Heh. Well, I can only take credit for associating dear demented Mr. Ikuhara with the phrase. Aruru's actually the one who made it for me.

Really, it's just another form of a dick measuring contest. I've been a fan longer than you have! No I have! I'm the better fan! No I am! STFU! Etc etc etc. Hell, even I could join in but I got so disgusted with Onslaught that I haven't read a Marvel comic since. Man, that was a long time ago~ *reminisces*

Amen to that. It used to piss me off, but the sheer variety of symbolic pissing contests just amazes me now.

Bollocks to that. I started liking Nightcrawler when I saw him in Evolution, but I saw Evolution right before X2 came out, so it was an intensifier. n_n Then my friend who's loved him for years lent me the mini-series and I read all about him on the intarnet. n_n

I remember first seeing Kurt in some of the episodes of the original X-Men cartoon (you know, the one where Rogue had the big 80's hair XD), and I thought he was adorable (and a hottie) then, so I's one-upping ya! ;P

(Quick, someone come in and talk down to us both by saying they've seen him and been his fan since the very first issue of the comics when he made his bamftastic appearance! :D :D :D)

Ke ke... actually, some station (maybe the family channel or something) is showing that old cartoon very early Saturday mornings. I caught it once, ahh, nostalgia. Nightcrawler was in the 'be right back' screens, but I'd like to see the episode(s) that feature him n_n

If I admit that I've never actually SEEN an X-men cartoon, but I used to work in a comic book store about 17 years ago when The New X-Men came out, BEFORE X-Factor even appeared, do I count?

Oh, and I named my 17 year old cat Wolverine.

Look! I can write my name in snow! :)

omdgfsgdksg nightcralwer ifsz he best! WE SHUD GET MARRIED really is about the extend of my fanness towards him. That and looking up pretty pictures. And drooling over Alan Cumming. I don't mind. (Teh wank, teh WANK!)

Remember, folks! If fandom comes along and you're not the first to be snapped up in the initial wave, YOU WILL NEVER BE LEET. That should be a public service announcement to "teh usless n00bs." *nodnods*

And on a less sarcastic note, could that icon be any fucking scarier?

*SNORT* I have EVERYONE beat. I fell in love with Kurt Wagner after his appearance in X-Men Classics 60-something through God-knows-what and own almost every single Excalibur comic ever printed, before they ceased it (those @#%#ers!). I also fell in love with the comic BEFORE watching the cartoon.

But the real question remains: Does all that mean that my penis is bigger?
