Megatokyo wank.
Fred "Piro" Gallagher's work ethic is criticised.
On the Megatokyo comm.
Do I need to tell you what happened?

One of the recurring defenses is Piro's having a busy schedule, what with his cons, and family, and book and all. Also common is asking the OP about his comic.

Highlights: I shall cuddle my wife. You can't do it, so STFU. [reasonable comment] You don't know him personally, so STFU. You're not a true fan, so STFU. Fred needs to STFU. You're an entitlement whore, so STFU. You're-well, honestly, I have no idea where this one is going. Computer art is not easy, so STFU.*

Of course, there are a few people who actually agree, but not many. 55 comments as of press time.
Meta'd from drama_awesome.
EDIT: Fixed coding and spelling error. Thanks, [info]mindset and mouse.
*Personal note: As someone who's on his second webcomic, has been doing them since 2002, and started using MS Paint, I have to agree. I also find that anyone who thinks digital is easier than traditional generally has not actually tried the former.
EDIT 2: The mod reacts, full wank ahead. Thanks, [info]randomsome1.

With all the other crap he does and the time it takes to make a comic, I'm surprised that Fred ever manages to post a comic at all. The man has JUSTIFICATION.

Doesn't change the fact that he can't write Largo for shit, though.

Is this like how JKR 'owes' HP fans? Mr. Gallagher totally 'owes' all his fans updates of a free webcomic.

For christ's sake, it's his project. He can do what he damn well pleases with it.

Didn't he, at one point, threaten to OMG-cancel-MT-4-ever! if someone ever drew porn featuring the angelic innocent Yuki? Somehow I doubt he'd throw away that cash cow...

This is when I get tempted to comment on people whining incessantly about something given to them for free.

This is also when my wife tells me that such people are greedy retards, and don't bother to think of the rest of the real life the artist has, and shouldn't be worried over.

I think I shall go cuddle my wife.

The 'Net is a vile temptress, indeed. I think funjon's poor wife is still waiting for that cuddle, if he can't stop himself from commenting on how he shouldn't be commenting.

I actually like the more connected plot that Piro has come up with; it is wonderful to see the character's evolve beyond a one note gag and the relationships between them.

Still, even if he only updated once or twice a week, it would be better than all the false start/stops.

Seriously, go find me ONE other webcomic who:
1. has been publishing for the length of time Fred has
2. has the complexity of graphics fred has
3. sells a similar veriety of merch in a stor they staff *themselves*
4. and has had their work published in *multiple* books
5. goes to cons regularly and has discusion panels
6. and updates on a regular basis, all the time.

Woo, I qualify!

However, I have times when I'm late to update and there's nothing to blame but laziness. First person to get all irate defending my honor gets a boot in the eye. IT IS JUST A FUCKING COMIC BOOK.

I'd also like to slap the people who're sitting there acting like all you have to do in the digital realm is hit the 'DRAW COMIK LOLS' button in illustrator, and - presto! - finished comic!

Digital artwork can be just as difficult and time-consuming as hand-drawn artwork. It all depends on the style and level of detail. Hand-drawn artwork isn't inherently superior and more amazing just by dint of being hand-drawn.

[/art wanker ranting]

(Note: yeah, the cheap digital 4-panel comic with the same frames but the facial expression switched out is easy and quick. But for people who create each panel individually (eg Penny Arcade, MacHall, or VG Cats), it's sure as hell not quicker than hand-drawn)

Megatokyo is much like my own personal Sluggy-style "instant sleep" trigger (ie "Oprah's book of the month club"). I see the word, and my eyelids start getting heavy. So . . . boring . . .

Mhmm, yet another former fan who left when it became Gallhager's masturbatory little faux-shoujo playground. There's a reason I don't read shoujo romance manga in the first place, and the self-insertion just makes it even less appealing.

That said, when a webcomic becomes your livelihood, I think you do in fact develop a kind of basic responsibility to your readers. I'm well aware of how hard it is to post a webcomic regularly, being a beyond-miserable failure at it myself, but as people have said about a billion times before, it's his job. If it's too difficult for him, maybe it shouldn't be.

Relatively regular updates are kind of a minimum expectation (when it's more than just a hobby), and it's not as though he's missed one or two.

/wanks all over herself (Hmmm. The finals-week tension is somewhat relieved.)

For all its faults and shojo-drama, I still like MT. I'm not sure why, but I do. Maybe because I think Fred's a nice guy. Bah, whatever.

However, I don't really understand the big kerfluffle. It is a webcomic. It's not going to be the end of the world if on maybe one Friday it doesn't update. Most of the webcomics I follow have had a crash recently (9th Elsewhere and Growth *pimppimppimp*) and somehow, it doesn't bother me. Then again, that's probably because I have other shit to do, and hence won't be broken up about it.
