Hey, I've got a goofy idea! How about everybody reads and writes what they'd like to read and write, and leaves everybody else the fuck alone? No puffery about how "X segment of fic is wrong and evil," no "akin to rape!" hyperbole, no growling about "this kink is unholy and offensive, whilst my kink, on the other hand, is good clean harmless fun".

Would you be so comfortable if you stumbled across an archive where a bunch of men you knew nothing about were posting stories about how they'd like to see you fucked, cut up, raped, whatever? Would you be so comfortable if it was written about your daughter on a toilet door at school? What if they were posted on telegraph poles? Would your husband/wife/children be comfortable with it?

Umm... if my daughter made a living as an actress, used her sex appeal to further her career, appeared nude in love scenes on screen, sold posters of herself wearing a bikini, etc., I probably would expect it. If she was very popular and some of her fans got scary, then she could use part of the proceeds from her career to hire security.

Given that she is just a regular girl, I would expect people to stay out of her private life.

	Yes, but what exactly is a public persona? Where's the line? Someone who posts a lot of details about their life on LJ, maybe photos? A BNF? An actress in a community theater group? Wha's wanky about acknowedging that not everyone thinks like she does, but that these are her own personal, and well expressed views? It's not like she called anyone a backstabbing cunt, is it?

I happen to agree with her, but I really don't think she was being that wanky. It's a contentious subject. It's her personal space. It's no more mockable than me putting anti war banners on my site, or other people putting Columbia memorials on theirs.

Now if she came over here and tried to bloody someone's nose, that *would* be a wank, ne?

You know, paraphrasing or not, I can't see a single place where she even came close to implying that RPF is equal to rape. The closest she came was saying she broke up with an ex for not caring that her step father perved on her, because she cares about sexual privacy. In fact, I thought she was remarkably clear that she was talking about sexual *fantasy* in her entry, not that she thought RPF was carried out in the real world.

I'd say this entry is fairly accurate, actually, in that it's not pointing out wank at all, just someone having a different opinion.

But hey, I don't read RPF about living people, so my opinion probably doesn't count. ~sigh~

I thought it was a reasonable argument, although a bit emotionally-phrased in places. I always distrust 'Well, how would *you* feel if [circustance X] happened', because [circumstance X] is usually subtly different to the actual topic under discussion. But she did a pretty good job of actually trying to explain *why* she gets the 'ick' reaction.
