DDR isn't for kids, so sayeth DDRFreak.com elitists
Over at DDRFreak.com, Konami makes an announcement on May 9 that they are producing a Saturday morning children's show called "Dance Revolution" featuring teenaged kids battling each other on the DDR machine.

Immediately everybody cries "Waaaah all the little kids are gonna start playing my game now and it's gonna be ruined..." Never mind that the last new release of an arcade DDR machine was on Christmas 2002. Still, practically everybody cries about Konami not knowing what they're doing, how all the little kids are gonna start playing at their arcades now, ruining their experiences, and writing useless online petitions to get it stopped.

Five pages so far, with very few voices of reason on that board. I wouldn't be surprised if this went further too.

(ETA: Link fixed now to point to correct thread.)

Hahaha what a bunch of idiots. They remind me of the girl who was all whiny on the cf comm because she lost a Harry Potter costume contest to a kid.

How about complaining less about teh kiddies discovering your obsession (as if your average kid gamer doesn't already know what DDR is) and concentrate more on WHAT A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CONCEPT THIS SHOW IS?!?

::snort:: This brings back memories of seeing college guys whining because the cute little (I swear to God, he couldn't have been older than ten) boy from Osaka or somewhere in that region kicked their asses hard at DDR. "There oughta be an age limit!"

I'd say the show was a horrible idea... but... I've watched Hikaru no Go and Prince of Tennis now. If a show about the game of Go can be made interesting, I'm willing to believe anything can.

According to this, they're not dancing on the DDR machines. They're just dancing on a stage to a band or something.

Plus I didn't see any whining about kids on the linked thread. Did you mean this one?

There used to be DDR tournaments where I worked, a long time ago. It was all older teenagers, and they played for HOURS. They were seriously hardcore about it. When they were done, the room smelled like rotten gym socks stuffed in a locker, left to rot in the sun.

I know I've watched some boring TV in my life, but that might take the cake.

KIDS AT THE ARCADE!? HOLY SHIT, YOU DON'T SAY!! What next, kids at amusement parks?!

Fuck, people, if you're so offended by the idea of kids having fun on games, START YOUR OWN DDR CLUB AND STFU.

I'm afraid I'm a little lost as to how having little kids interested in DDR would hurt DDR players. Are they going to write incoherent DDR fanfics? Misunderstand the deep inner meaning behind the game?

Then again, I'm so dumb I think getting kids to get more exercise is a good thing.

Okay. So. DDR doesn't have a plot. Nor do I think it has characters that do anything other than say "You're on light mode!" or whatever.

I hope that the anime becomes popular enough for people to bitch about n00bs to the series. :]

It's going to be live action?!? At least animated you can add things you can't with live action. I'd like to see how they are going to do killer finishing moves at the end of the "battle". ...... It's Power Rangers only to music and no evil monsters or do those come later?

Good lord. Yeah, let's start a petition! Surely that'll stop those little snots from running around the arcade yelling!

I love how the entire thread just goes into an uproar, claiming that DDR will become the next Yu-Gi-Oh!. Keep flailing! Eventually Konami and CBS will buckle to the unwashed masses who wish to keep DDR cool!
