BRPS Mana wank.
Over at Bad RPers Suck, [info]penguinfaery sez: Please do not bitch at me for using such a pretty "girl" for my Japanese Drag Queen. Because that "Girl" is Mana from Malice Mizer. A japanese Drag Queen.

This is well-recieved at first, but then [info]chayyot voices the opinion that This Mana shit needs to die.

This does not sit well with many people. [info]chayyot is told to be nice. Obviously, [info]chayyot does not, in fact, be nice, but instead continues to wank in other threads. Also, people wank over whether or not Asian men are androgynous and who's a racist, culture-raping fangirl, or something like that.

I never got what the big deal about the guys crossdressing was. I never liked Mana or really liked Aya from Psycho Le Cemu. Though that may be partially due to the fact I saw him at a panel and he seemed a bit stuck up to me >>; It still makes my mind boggle when girls say they're hot.

But... Yeah. I like some pretty boys, so I can't say too much. XD But I wouldn't say that the 'shit needs to die' That's just... Dumb. And asking the fangirls to pounce.

As obnoxious as [info]chayyot is being, I actually think he/she is the one who's using the most common sense. Granted, he's still a wanker, but I'm glad he called BS on the whole "Asians are androgynous" commentary. I mean, WTF? Have these people actually looked at the Asian populous as a whole? That's one awfully stupid (and ignorant) way to generalize a massive number of people with a full range of cultural and physical differences.

Saying that "Asian men are generally androgynous" is stupid too.

But bringing up the point about somewhat negative perceptions of Asian male actors in Western cultures just reminds me of this segment that was on The Daily Show a while back. It was all about how Asian men don't appear in porn and they interviewed this college professor from California who had written about the subject and then written his own all Asian porno. And then they talked to a porn producer. And then Mr. Sulu.

As a fan of j-rock, I never really minded the fangirls even though they could sometimes be obnoxious. Generally they weren't good sources of high-quality eyecandy, and they didn't tend to frequent boards or communities dedicated to my favorite bands (which, while not obscure, are somewhat lesser known than the obvious examples of jrock). When jrockhumor became overrun with Dir en grey fans and nobody posted anything that wasn't related to Dir en grey or Mana, I just delisted the comm. Desperate cries for Janne Da Arc humor, or even (for crying out loud) L'Arc~en~Ciel humor, went unheard amidst the torrent of crappy pictures edited in MS Paint. Fangirls, alas.

But these "anti-fangirls"? They need to die in a fire. They are on the same level of stupid, only a brazillion times as obnoxious and intrusive, mainly because of their completely unfounded and unjustified claims of superiority. They dwell in a steaming heap of self-righteous bullshit and enjoy it. I think someone oughta go in and set that pile of shit on fire.

I'm not really sure if Mana could technically be called a drag queen per say. I mean sure he is performer, but he doesn't sing show tunes or wear sequins (good forbid!). I mean the guy doesn't even talk in public. Of course I could totally be applying my own confused stereotypes to drag queens, in which case my bad.
