scans_daily: Bringing the batshit since December 2003
Thanks to the impassioned ETA plea of the OP, this seems to have calmed down a bit, but contains such gems as to be worth sharing with the world.

Over on our old friend [info]Scans_Daily, it's time to do that thing it does again. No, not that thing. No, not that other thing. Yeah, that thing. The one where people bitch about the slash.

[info]doctorv makes a post of scans from Superman: Day Of Doom. Was the fact she put "Doom" in all caps in her subject line prescient or just coincidence? Who knows. But despite the billion and one previous posts of Blue Beetle/Booster Gold slash squeeage, a couple fairly tame Boostle mentions lead to a certain [info]agentoneal getting mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore:
"You know... Booster and Beetle were never lovers, and to tell you the truth, it sort of upsets me that you'd think that. I mean come on. A guy can't have a best friend without being his lover too?"
It's S_D. You know they weren't just going to casually overlook something like that, right?

Several people point out that different folks like different strokes. [info]majrgenrl8 uses an icon that makes it very hard for me not to make a 'strokes' joke here. [info]doctorv wonders what on earth she said to cause this, and then explains (you all know this song, right?) the whole 'why I slash 'em' thing for the eleventy-billionth time. And then the batshit starts to roll in, with some help from an anonymouse:
[info]agentoneal: "I just like to think of their relationship being pure."

anonymous: "Because romantic love is less pure than platonic love?"

[info]agentoneal: "No, because sex between Booster Gold and The Blue Beetle is wrong. Would you like to see Laurel and Hardy having hot man sex? What about Ben Stiller and a manitee? I think not."
Yep, it's our old friend, the "slash is like bestiality!" argument. Haven't you missed him?

While [info]agentoneal rants further on about "why is everyone persecuting meeeeeee" and compares Scans_Daily to Communist China (...okay), other members of the community retaliate in time-honored fashion:
[info]apathocles: "'Would you like to see Laurel and Hardy having hot man sex?' That'd be pretty fucking hilarious, so yes."

[info]agentoneal: "Ok, bad example. That is pretty funny.

What about George W. riding George Bush Sr.? Would you like to see that? Huh?
"

[info]mmymoon: "There's already community for that..."

Meanwhile, [info]cheetahmaster reminds agentoneal that this is Scans_Daily:
"If slash references are going to bother you, this *really* isn't the community you're looking for. Go check out the description on the info page."
[info]agentoneal attempts to pretend she's being reasonable in her replies, and thus is boring, but fortunately [info]asphalt_engine is there to take up the wanking torch:
"In my case, the slash doesn't bother me too much. Supes and Lex? Meh. Whatever. Booster and Beetle? Yeah. Fine. But Batman and Robin? Okay, that's the point we have a problem. The point that people are cranking one out to a 30 year old man and a 12 year old kid is the point that we have an official problem."
Slash, incest, and chan! It's like a trifecta!

[info]alba_aulbath appeals to rationality and tolerance, but [info]agentoneal ain't having none of that:
"But home is where the heart is. I want Booster and Beetle to be best friends in my heart. Are you saying that my heart should be ravaged and turned upside down? The human body doesn't work that way. I'm afraid my blood would pump in the opposite direction, and I may develop clots."
Fortunately, [info]alba_aulbath has a good response:
"Then you need a doctor. REALLY SOON."

But personally, I think [info]swirl_girlx's comment sums it all up the best:
"You're new here, aren't you?"
