Small but deliciously elitist!

Finmagik would like everyone to know that you shouldn't write fic based on the Jeeves & Wooster TV series because it's not the books! Gasp!

Actually, what she means is originals are always better than adaptations. Why? Well, to me Liking an Adaptation better then the original is exactly what I think of when I think of an anti-intellectual plebe.

And why is she such an elitist? Because I hate to pull the disability card, It is my Aspgers.

Is there a jurisimprudence law about not being able to spell your disability?

ETA: Finmagik is in the house and replying right and left, including an offer to email her personal medical records to people.

Aspgers? Snakeburgers?

Anyhoo. My favorite movie is One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. I love the book too, but I think the movie is totally brilliant, so this sort of annoys me. Also, I sort of think this chick is saying what she's saying out of a general prejudice against movies as anti-intellectual, which doesn't have to be true.

Oh, for the love of God. If you can't SPELL your disorder, then you will be treated as if you do not have it. Because: COME ON.

Also: aww, look at the little idiot. Though I'm surprised there hasn't been wank over the Johnny-come-lately fans who showed up due to Hugh Laurie's new sex symbol mania from House.

Oh, crapitty, more Asperger's wank?

YOU! OUT OF MY NEUROLOGICAL CONDITION!

Yes, Aspberger's is the trendy disorder to diagnose "strange" kids with lately, and yes, a lot of people (maybe even you) actually have it, and yes, it comes with a certain set of character flaws that varies from person to person, but it's not a shield to hide behind when a debate isn't going your way.

Wordy fucking Mc Word Word Word.

Well, I prefer the TV series to the books because the books feature boring, technical prose which at times seems like an attempt by the author to show off a resplendent vocabulary. In the television series, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry bring life to otherwise dry and frankly irritating characters with their amazing control of facial interactions and ability to, at time, act out a parody of a parody of life.

There! I used long words, I talked all proper sounding like. I'm intellectual! NOW am I allowed to like what I wanna like?

(Actual reason for liking the series better: PG Wodehouse writes like he has a stick up his ass and Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry are gods.)

Honey, you would kick up holy hell if I said "oh don't listen to her, she has A.S.P.E.R.G.E.R.S", so don't go using it as an excuse. Accept your disablitily and don't think it gives you an excuse to be a twat (note: She knew she was being a twat since she came back and pulled the disability card - if she ligitimately didn't know, I might be more understanding)

My favorite is when they call it Assburgers. :D Mmmm. Ass burgers.

Y'know, I was diagnosed with Asperger's in middle school. Not sure how much faith I put in the diagnosis, but nevertheless I was diagnosed. Half the reason I never put much faith in the diagnosis was that most of the things on those lists could apply to the majority of the population.

Oh good god. I surfed by that one earlier today, gave Aurelia mental props for attempting to use logic on that... personage... and then wandered on out, because it wasn't very interesting, or wanky. But of course, at that point, her 'aspgers' hadn't come up. But you know what had?

"And if this thread continues it will get into Monty Python/ Fandom_wank terrority."

Of course, we know that was just a lame ploy to try and get other people to stop arguing with him/her, because they didn't really have a leg to stand on. "If we don't stop, F_W will come!" really ought to be on Internet Argument-Losing Bingo. But would you look at what the third one down in the first row is?

Congratulations, oh finmagik: even a webcomic about toys agrees you lose.

I wonder when someone is going to crossover House MD with Blackadder the Third... actually, someone probably has.

But really, how can you do a proper House MD/Jeeves and Wooster crossover without the use of a time machine? Ooooh, it's a House MD/DOCTOR WHO/Jeeves and Wooster crossover! Now I get it!

Also, I think Finmagik should stay out of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The amount of adaptations would confuse her.

What also pisses me off is that she assumes that everyone has access to the original material. I loved V for Vendetta, but since I've moved, I doubt that there's a single comic-book store within a thousand miles of me. Even if I found it online, I'd have to find a place that shipped to Australia, to my specific town, and at an affordable price.

And after all that, I might not even LIKE the comic.

So frankly, I liked the movie, and she can kiss my ass.

Jeeves and Wooster wank! Is my day complete? Well and truly. And it's not even eleven am.

"I say, Jeeves, there's rather a lot of excitable young women over there, staring at us."
"Indeed, sir."
"And now they're fighting. Rum sort of thing, wouldn't you say, Jeeves?"
"Quite, sir."
"Who do you suppose they are?"
"I believe they are called 'fangirls', sir. A most terrifying species of female."
"What, like Aunt Agatha?"
"Alas, no, sir."
"Oh. Dear."

Liking an Adaptation better then the original is exactly what I think of when I think of an anti-intellectual plebe.

RanDoM CApitOlizAtioN MucH?

But wait... I like Harry Potter books better than movies, so I am intellectual! But... I liked the LotR movies better than the books. BUT I liked the YYH anime EXACTLY as much as the YYH manga.

Noes! Could it be I am a plebe?

Oh damn it. And here I was, thinking Jeeves and Wooster was such a safe, sane little fandom, and that fans of books and/or the TV series got along just fine without all that elitist nonsense!

Granted, I felt a little silly going into the Jooster community with my meager fanart offerings without having cracked open a single thing written by Wodehouse, but the reception was warm and without pretention, so I assumed all was well.

Eh. Every fandom worth its salt gets wank, I suppose. *sulks and consoles self with Jooster scribbles*

Ridiculous. I've been working my way through various J&W stories when I get the chance (what with, you know, school and work and all), and I enjoy them enough, but the fact of the matter is that the series has Stephen and Hugh and the books never will. Sometimes there is an X-factor of such extraordinary awesomeosity that it blows the original out of the water.

Besides, as far as adaptations go, the series of J&W is remarkably loyal to the stories. Wodehouse's writing is not exactly littered with textual subtleties that are so integral to the point of the story that any change to the medium will KILL his artistic vision with great prejudice. It's a group of little stories about a thick man and his genius butler who know a lot of very silly upper-class people and have rather repetetive upper-class problems. It's not deep or meaningful. It's funny and charming. Thus, finmagik: you LOSE, good DAY sir.

It is different from Anime because in a anime they usually tend to at least stick to the basic plot of the manga with a few changes

Two words: Fullmetal Alchemist.

Damn. I must be in the minority, because I really like it (most of the time) when the movie or series goes in a totally different direction from the series. I consider an adaptation something like an authorized alternate universe fanfic with a high budget.

A friend is writing an HP/Jeeves and Wooster crossover, though I don't know if he'll actually finish and post it, but he asked me a question about the canon the other day and was not happy for me to respond, "I don't know. I can't distinguish between the books and the Laurie-Fry movies."
