Erk, I guess this isn't a good time to admit that I try to keep the +, x, and relationship balance in mind when I label my fics? I don't really care if others don't do it, though...

I use the '/' because I think the +/x thing is really incredibly stupid. If there's sex, there'll probably be a note/warning about it. If it's PWP, they'll say that, too. Unless you're ignoring everything but what the pairing says, you really have no idea what you're getting into anyway.

/ is good because in my mind, it links back to slash-- which I find is less often horribly abusive to its characterization. Or maybe I'm just better at avoiding badfic?

Also: I've done my fare share of labelling rants. I think they're important. Who's on top matters to some people, even if other don't give a fuck. But really. Who cares about whether or not the pairing tells you if the fic has sex in it or not? Just skip down and check the rating. :/

hehe, dude, when I saw that, I thought "Oh that'll bring the wank to the table!" and I decided to STAY THE HELL OUT of that argument. I've been wanked once here (and once on otf_wank) for things I've said on FFR -- I don't know much about Yaoi and didn't want to get into trouble so soon after the whole wankfest that left me scared to go anywhere near FFR or FW

If there's a pairing in any form, I use a /, if there's not, I use a +, and I don't bite the heads off people who do it different, 'cause it's not so fucking hard to figure out what they mean once you read the summary and or labels. See how easy it is to not be an asshat over something like this?

Don't mind me, I'm just a mouse who wanders in from fanficrants everytime a comment count reaches above 75, because it is been a foolproof indicator of wankage.

Concerning which, if the pairing, rating, summary, and warnings cannot adequately inform you of the content of the fic, its because it is a bad fic. This is an addendum to the "i suck at summaries" = "i also suck at fics" rule.

Seems rather dumb to me. I mean if someone has a PG fic and the pairing is labeled as 'CharacterA x CharacterB' then I'm pretty sure there won't be any sex in it.

You know, I hereby demand that everyone adhere to my system of labelling fics. It's really quite simple:

A~B: A and B have sex that involves whips
A!B: A is actually part of B's soul, and they have sex
A@B: A spends several hours exploring B's body before having sex
A#B: A has number sex with B
A%B: A and B are disembodied heads licking a mannequin
A^B: A and B are siblings and having sex
A&B: A and B are both having sex with a third party and each other
A*B: A and B only have sex underneath the stars.
A(B: A and B have sex while spooning
A)B: A and B have sex with the moon
A_B: A and B have sex on the floor
A+B: A and B don't have sex, they just want to.

And so on, and so forth! Perfectly simple and easy to understand, and you all are bastards for not using my system of labelling your fics.

What are we to make of pairings that are just written the the names stuck together, like DracoHarry? And whatever happened to the friendly hyphen? I use it to mean gen, but I don't want to be using it wrong, and certainly wouldn't want people to have to guess it from the actual goddamned text of the story. And of course, writing a summary in such a way that the nature of the relationship is obvious would be out of the question.
