Sandman + Photoshop + Fanlings = Wank Gold!
In Neil Gaiman's latest blog entry, he shares with us a look at the new Sandman collection that has the first 20 issues, 18 of them recolored and looking all pretty like.

Most people are all "OMG SO PRETTY!!" until
[info]cyclotron pipes up:

"Looks like someone ran it through photoshop filters."

WHAT?? Dare you somehow imply the laziness of colorists?? HOW COULD YOU!?!?!

Wank soon follows

Basically, it all boils down to "I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'" but it's pretty silly none the less.

As someone who sucks at computer graphics of any sort, I automatically want to beat the hell out of [info]cyclotron for being such an "Oh, I could do better in less time" ass.

As someone who can use photoshop and doesn't even like the new colourings that much, I also want to beat him.

Word.

I also would like to know how s/he can do that with a filter. S/he either has a very different definiton of filter than I do, or devine photoshop skills.

Yeah, it is pretty silly. Photoshop "filters" (maybe s/he means "actions"?) or no, the new coloring looks splendid, and that's what's important, right?

I haven't, but most people have no clue what "actions" are. They're basically macros, if anyone is wondering.

I have been wondering about that, too.
I have the scary feeling that s/he means 'masks'.

Do do manips for fun and that is how I would start if I had to colour that.
Even then, that is a lot more work than it looks.
I have yet to find a magic way of making things look good.

I don't think you offended anyone, just made yourself look like a collosal and self regarding fool who believes that his potatoe shop skills make him INTERNET JESUS.

All you true believers, heed not the world of the blasphemous meetpaulblack! Let not his ironically pretentious spelling errors and sacrilegious mocking of the name of Photoshop blind you to his evil intents! There is only one true Internet Jesus, only one saviour of the ether who died for all your programming sins! The false prophet, this Anti-Internet Christ [not to be confused with the non-Internet Christ who is a technophobe and refuses to get an e-mail account because he fears the spammers of Satan] will tempt you with offerings of live-streaming pleasures that will damn your pixilated soul into the ninth circle of Internet Hell, where only the darkest of beings lurk. There you will experience horrors you cannot begin to imagine. Trapped there are the souls of the trolls that follow you from comm to comm, back to your personal journal and your IM, e-mailing you day and night with lewd suggestions and trojan viruses. There too are the fannits-who-shall-not-be-named, a collections of wankers so terrible that Fanfiction.net itself has spat them back out. There is no salvation for those who proselytize about the servant of Internet Lucifer, who sometimes goes by the name of Bauman. There is only damnation, and a slow decline into chatspeak being used as the primary form of communication.

So mark me, the pure and the righteous dwellers of the Internet Light! Repent your processing errors and be saved from the blue screen of death and despair! Heed the words of Internet Christ our Lord, who spoke that:

"All fen who hold no other Internet Gods before me, and who follow in my IP-tracked footsteps, shall not perish, but have eternal life in the hallowed halls of the intrawebs. (www.internetjesusspeaks.org,pp. 42,verses 19-22)"

Praise Internet Jesus forever and ever! Amen.

Can the opposition to cyclotron invoke Tubman's law on behalf of the colorists of Sandman next? We can have add them to our shelf of Harmonians and boob nazis.

As someone who has worked in a printshop and used Photoshop professionally, [info]cyclotron is an ignorant asswipe. Photoshop filters =/= lazy by any stretch. Making them look great take time and strategy, especially when enlarging images.

And if it looks good, it looks good. Who cares how it got done?

All I can think of is:

1) What is that scary blue head supposed to be about in the wanker's icon?

2) What would Neil think about such a foolish little scrupple on his blog? That is, if he actually cares what cyclotron even thinks at all, which I sincerely doubt.

I think the new coloring is gorgeous and I don't care how it was done. I think that the coloring is one of the reasons I didn't like the first two Sandman TPBs when I read them.

Fortunately I only have Dream Country and Brief Lives, so I am totally saving my money to buy that when it comes out. I wouldn't mind getting an older used copy of any of them to loan out to friends, read on the toilet, and generally carry around until it falls apart.
