Stephen Colbert is hurting America
According to [info]johannafaust, Stephen Colbert is hurting America. And he's a dick. Oh wait. That's Tucker Carlson.

Anyhoo, apparently, The Colbert Report (spin-off of The Daily Show) is distracting all the multitudes of st00pid st00pid Americans from recognizing that what the government is doing is dangerous. Because we're all too busy laughing. Or something.

I know a lot of people think Stephen Colbert is really funny and/or cool, and I suppose he is occasionally chuckle-worthy. However, I think in the long run Colbert's kind of humor is not only not having the affect you think it does, but is actually harming America.

Think about it, on Colbert's show he mocks the religious, conservative republicans who are in power in this country right now, he makes them look completely stupid, and by doing this, getting people to laugh at them, he makes them seem harmless. So, while our freedoms are being taken away at the white house every day, the people who might actually care about it, are instead glued to their televisions laughing at only slightly exaggerated caricatures of some of the most evil and dangerous men alive. And nobody goes out and does anything about it, because those conservatives are so funny and dumb they can't possibly be a *real* threat. And that’s why he was allowed to give his routine at the white house like that.

Most of the wankery can be seen in the first few comments as [info]johannafaust informs us what idiots all Americans are.

And if you care to wade in to debates dripping with condescension, you'll also catch the ever-eloquent [info]_cent_fifty spout such witty comebacks as You don't have to be hardcore policore to make a point anus. and Ask your mom what it means. Okay!

And if you scroll past the other comments, you'll also get to see some disturbing pictures of Stephen Colbert bludgeonining his cat. (Context: this clip from the Daily Show). I'm a horrible person for laughing so hard at that. (Oh noes! Colbert makes us oblivious to the real dangers of kitten killers!)

And a small mini-wank to top off the day: See [info]_cent_fifty here again, as he makes a stirring defense for the lurkers of the community (let us all unite!).

Stop using the term term "Troll" to describe us "Lurkers". It's just a goofy fuckin' insult in the first place. It's not very insulting is what I'm trying to say.
In the Hobbit the trolls turned to stone when sun light touched them. That reminds me of that beatles song...

Yay! I'm not a troll. Back to lurking, I guess.

ETA: And she posts again. More wankery abounds in the comments.

ETA 2: The mod responds with a hilarious fireside chat.

That reminds me of that beatles song...

"Trolls Turn to Stone When the Sunlight Touches Them" was actually one of Paul's early solo efforts, and often interpreted as an attack on Yoko Ono.

Speaking as someone whose college next year had Stephen Colbert as it's commencement speaker, WTF?

Stephen is awesome, hilarious and intelligent, but somehow I don't think he's hot/funny/AWESOME enough to distract ALL THE LIBERALS with his HILARITY. Maybe if he flashed us. Still.

Then again, I have a giant crush on Barack Obama. *goes back to reading on of her magazines with Barack on the cover*

*Sigh*

In a way, I understand her point, because some people DO just point and laugh instead of taking action. But it's ALWAYS been that way; Colbert's not the reason you sit on your ass.

BTW, why was at the White House, anyway? Did they think he was a RealCon and not a MockCon? Because that's frightening right there.

The look on Bush's face when SC was doing his schtick? Priceless...
