The wank you never thought you'd see.
You thought you had seen the smallest of the small fandom wanks? People arguing over knitting and perfume not small enough? Met the tokusatsu nerds! This is smaller, but with enough "WTF" for everyone.

So...on Henshin Justice Unlimited, Rising Sun Ranger (RSR from her on out) links to an old Bettleborgs ad on YouTube, noting it's "Worse than the TV Show itself!!"

People giggle, until Skynight wades in with a cry for equal treatment of Saban, claiming hypocrisy.

And...the Japan/English wars are off and running! Skynight declares RSR is "dragging B-Fighter (link to the wiki for the uninformed, well, everyone.) into a comparison war"

The thread lies dormant until NinjaJack, revives it, noting that RSR is "one of those guys who starts a topic about a show he doesn`t like, then goes out of his way to say how much the Japanese version was better."

At this point, it's time to whip out the "My fandom is tiny and obscure, but I can still have a minuscule e-peen to wave about!"

ForeverKnight makes several disparaging comments, but it doesn't get good until RSR quotes a comment in on the YouTube clip:

"The thing that makes Beetleborgs fans superior to B-Fighter fans is that we get the fact this show is supposed to be FUN, nothing else that the Japs can come up with, serious or otherwise. We can lighten up, whilst these Tokastu snobs have to always stick with the source material and bore us to death with how "great" their oriental crap is. We nuked Japan for a reason, you're it."

Racism!Wank about a 15 year old show with people in beetle suits. I can't make this up.

FreedomR8G6B1 proceeds to totally miss the racism and Skynight, it seems, has been found out as the commenter, and tries to defend it. He has friends that aren't white! He doesn't think that people who like a Japanese show over an American one are the reasons we killed thousands of people. Really! You're just taking it out of context!

Still going strong, so far.

Yay, tokusastsu wank! And Beetleborgs/B-Fighter wank of all things. I liked Flubber, or whatver the ghost genie guy's name was in Beetleborgs.

And I would say 'Guys, relax, both versions are kinda stupid, something about being a kids' show', but I've seen Harry Potter wank. =/

Flabber. In fact, he was the only character on the show who's name I could remember for more than five minutes. (And I'm vaguely embarassed to know that...)

Even when I was a kid, I hated BBB. Hated hated hated. My favorite was VR Troopers, though, so I guess I don't really have a leg to stand on.

And by the time I was in a position to actually watch Japanese tokusatsu stuff, I was no longer a ten year old kid so I had no interest...

ZOMG, [info]arionhunter, yesterday I totally ganked some icons you posted on sentai_icons a while back XD Your Sen-Chan icon makes me happeh. <3

*hem, hmm* Ohh, gotta love the Toku l33tists wanking their little hearts out. I'm always afraid to post Sentai wank because there's the underage risk, but it's always so juicy and wanky. Especially if it's whining about how Power Rangers is ruining Sentai because we shortsighted bastard Americans are apparently forcing the almighty powerful Japanese to tone down the series so it's easier to translate into an American show.

Beetleborgs was the shit, y0. I've never seen any of B-Fighter, though, so I can't say which is "better". (Not that either really is overwhelmingly better to me. I prefer Sentai, but that's just because it's not bound to American television standards and thus not forced to cover up that injury and death exist.)

Yeah, I'm so-so on toku wank. Rangerboard is a steaming mess of it, but the underage risk is really high. HJU is usually pretty sane, and everyone there at least manages to have some kind of adult conversation.

I'm the same on sentai, though I admit, the Zen-Aku/Duke Org Rouki arc for PR Wild Force is what got me thinking..."Hmm, maybe I should look into this sentai stuff." Garo has been my latest "show that must be watched until it's dead in the ground."

All of them featured Doggie, so that's automatic talent in my book. (lessthanthree) I have some unnatural obsession with Doggie. He's probably my favourite Sentai character so far (I've only seen all of Dekaranger, 33 episodes of Magiranger, 10 of Dairanger, the Goranger vs. JAKQ movie, and one each of Goranger, Jetman, and Zyuranger though, so I don't have much of a sampling to choose from).

Yeah, I've seen several threads there I wanted to report, but I've always stopped because I didn't want to get in trouble for posting stuff written by underage folks.

"Hmm, maybe I should look into this sentai stuff."

Dekaranger was my first Sentai, though I'd kill to see the oldest ones, especially Goranger, JAKQ, Battle Fever J, and Liveman (and not have to pay out the ass to do so). I became interested when I stumbled on Tv-Nihon's website and realized I wanted to know where my childhood obsession came from. I got hooked, though I still do like Power Rangers, because they know their fanbase.

But the number one reason I will always hate BIG BAD BEETLEBORGS is because my local Fox affiliate used it to replace Sailor Moon. Halfway through Sailor Moon R. And I'd only discovered the show a week before.

Yup, I did. :D The Wikipedia entry for it says it was really popular, actually, and the only reason it got canceled was because they ran out of Japanese footage to utilize.
